Fitness is a concern. If it's just been niggling injuries that a good pre-season can fix then if Rhodes is £10m then Evans at £500,000 is good business.

It's definitely a good sign that we're ready and willing to act early to get our squad up to standards for next season.

Maybe McCabe's promise and personal view played a part as well.

But if this is right about 500k, it seems like we've been prompted, and rushed into this. We've got all summer to make offers if we want him - we'd surely at least wait until the end of the season. I don't see any possibility of us going straight in now with 500k in normal circumstances.

The timing is totally off as you say, but as I've posted elsewhere, I've been told the leaks come from us and McCabe is going all pommpey all over everyone's ass.

If nothing else it's going to overshadow the end of our season. Sunday should be about celebrating what the players, staff and manager have done. It should not be about dredging this up again.

If it was going to be done, it should have been announced after the end of the season. Let the players have their moment.

My view for what it's worth:

My only cocern is that he seems to be injured all the time. If he can stay fit, then I think he would do well alongside Sharp plus the supply from our midfield. I hope Wilder has had the final say on this and not had it pushed on him. It's a gamble but if it pays off it will be a stroke of genius.

Anyway, back to celebrating the season and looking forward to Saturday. 100 points plus the trophy.

Agree with the "never go back" rule but Billy Sharp came back and it failed
