Cue meltdown

No. Absolutely no. Categorically no.

What it shows, as is clearly evident in this thread, is that we have thousands of FANS who can't move on. That is all.

Football decision and only that. Tufty wouldn't have it any other way.

PS Evans n Sharp will tear the Championship a new one. You heard it hear first !!

Whether or not you agree on the moral basis, the club's (again) lack of announcement and clarity shows how divisive the topic of the signing is. Whether 'worth it' or not. Maybe in 2013 I'd have accepted that argument of potential Championship quality but in 2017... no thanks.

I'm a bit stunned at this and not entirely in favour, but for football reasons only, there are no other considerations, he's Not Guilty. What troubles me is fitness and form, not fornication. How long is it since he last played or scored?

Wilder will have been consulted and agreed. He wouldn't be coming if Tufty didn't want him, that's for sure.

Time will tell.

Can't believe all this at all.

It might work out well, and I'll have no problem with him signing for us.

But 3 things I'm certain about are...

500k is too much.

This has been triggered by legal matters, nothing else.

The timing is absolutely shocking.

There are other considerations though.
We'll have our lot venerating him, including plenty who believe he did nothing wrong at all, with opposition fans doing the 'rapist' routine on the other side.
There are things that matter aside from football in this case.

I agree. I'm happy with it if Wilder is. Think Chris could really get Evans playing well again like he has with Coutts etc.

However... if it's a McCabe decision that Chris wasn't on board with then we have a problem.

Totally agree but.....

....we won't have one.

You're certain about this?

Edited that post now, but I'd say it at least seems very likely. Really don't think we'd be considering him at all if it was purely a footballing matter.

Absolutely shocking timing.

So to save a few quid and a legal battle we buy him and pay the wages of a man motivated to sue the club over something which effectively was his own fault?

Add to that the possibility of animosity running in different sections of the club over it and the man who took on West Ham and the PL would just roll over? Get a grip.

If McCabes anything to do with it it'll be over promises he made originally about standing by him, not because some chancer of a lawyer thinks he might get a few bob. A story that died pretty quickly a few months ago.

I talk regularly with an ex employee of us and Chesterfield, who could not speak highly enough of ched, his work ethic and how he is one of the lads, will talk to him when walking the dog to find out if he knows any thing else as they are in regular contact

Ched lad, yer can join us on a dog walk any time.

Confusion is the word for me. Why now? Why after the season he's had? Why when they know the publicity it will cause? Why do something to overshadow this amazing season before it's even ended? Why bring in someone who already divides the fans after we have all been together for the first time in years?

WHY

Because Wilder and Sharp have bought into it.

Stop being an arse and top getting yourself in a state. Funny how everyone I expected to be on here full of anger and self righteousness is here ,weird .

I just think posting, 'I know something you don't know but I'm not going to share it' helps no-one.

Staggered by some of the reaction to this. Can understand people having differing views on whether or not it's a good signing from a football point of view but people saying it's ruined the season?!

To ruin the season we've just had, we'd have to sack Wilder and replace him with a Megson / Jones combo. To let the signing of one player spoil your enjoyment of the season we've just had or even just your enjoyment of the Chesterfield game seems incredibly melodramatic.

I know (at least) one member of the Chesterfield coaching staff rated Evans very highly indeed. We as a fanbase know better than anyone just how good he can be. Any moral issues disappeared when he won his appeal.

I accept that he only did it over one season (but how many others performed well in the period he struggled?) but he was, by a country mile, our best striker since Brian Deane. Even when he was struggling, the likes of Gary Speed were on record about his ability and potential.

He's struggled for fitness after a long spell out but that's to be expected, hopefully he's done most of the slow recovery process at Chesterfield and we get a fit, fully firing Evans next season.

Definitely a gamble but the upside is huge and I'm really hopeful he'll prove to be a good signing. And on Sunday, I'll be celebrating our promotion and singing the names of Sharp, O'Connell, Coutts, Fleck, Wilder etc. I feel sorry for those who now won't be able to but I think the blame for that sits with them and not SUFC.
You've basically said everything that I've been thinking on this story!!. Come on all you blades!!, let's enjoy the party on Sunday and give our wholehearted thanks to everyone at bdtbl for a truly fantastic season!!.

Totally against this.

All the talk about the feel good factor, club being more United than anyone can ever remember.

All gone.

Cue rapist chants, hell shag who he wants etc etc.

Seriously considering not having season ticket now.

It's ruined my day. I was just about to start a thread with a beautifully crafted and well-thought out post on how united the club is, and suggestions on how to reduce some of the few remaining differences within. Now, every time I read a page of posts, another 2 pages of new posts have gone up, and I can't even keep up. I think I'll make a start on my first novel instead.

Maybe McCabe's promise and personal view played a part as well.

But if this is right about 500k, it seems like we've been prompted, and rushed into this. We've got all summer to make offers if we want him - we'd surely at least wait until the end of the season. I don't see any possibility of us going straight in now with 500k in normal circumstances.

My natural inclination is to say that we should never sign him, whatever he did, his actions were reprehensible. My other inclination is that no one is beyond redemption!

Luke McCormick the Plymouth goalkeeper who was twice over the limit & was jailed for over 7 years for killing 2 brothers in 2008, has been named in the PFA team of the year, after re-joining Plymouth in 2013. Personally, & having 2 sons & 1 daughter, of the 2 crimes I would find it harder to forgive the death of my sons.

I would still prefer that he never returned to SUFC, for me some things are more important than success!
