Back in the day when rival fans were allowed on the kop and home made banners poked people’s eyes out there were new songs every week often linked to the top ten. For example to Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys: “Went to the Lane looking for a game, saw Birchenall so I thought I’d go again”
Sarcasm too after Liverpool got thrashed by the lowly Ajax in the European Cup: “When It’s Spring again we’ll bring again Ajax from Amsterdam “.
And the anti pig songs were legion.
Now I’m in the family stand I would say the crowd were better in the second half but need improvement.

Dont be too hard on the fans , i saw Man City thrash Burton , on a mid-week jaunt , Atmosphere was rubbish , with people leaving early at 9 v 0 , we may have been a little spoilt under Wilder and Knill , 45 to 65 mins last night , was really loud .

Was pretty flat first half as I could hear the programmes 3 quid man. Actually, that’s probably not a good analogy as he does have some pipes on him.

The lads and lasses at the back of the kop should never be criticised for the atmosphere. They do their best. It's the rest of the ground.

I've moved from the kop to the South Stand this season. Decent view but the contribution to the atmosphere is nil. I thought the whole ground sang the GCB at the start of the two halves. How wrong could I be?

Looking at the total disinterest in the people who sit around me I cannot see it ever changing.

Plenty of drab atmospheres under warnock to go along with the odd big special game. Much like any season after if honest.

I’m no fan of our fans, as most of you know, but I’ve watched the sky coverage and it sounded great second half. Very little vocal support from the away fans, by contrast.

Not a game to get the heart racing of itself as it turned out, so I’m giving the crowd a 7.

Did you go all dewy-eyed at the way Boro played, Pinchy? Pretty much a whole team of giant Nick Montgomerys

Working away I get to see a few Prem games and have to say at most the atmospheres are like at Hillsborough on a good day, pathetic. Even Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal unless playing a top game, Don't think a lot realise the atmosphere at the Lane beats most grounds, and when it's rocking it's the best. Ask Mr Pottechino and other managers.

I thought the first half we were poor in supporting the team, given the importance of the game.

We're bang central in the middle of the Kop and try to pick up stuff from the back to get the statues in front of us joining in.
The second half was different as if even the plastics realised the team needed some support.

A bit disappointed that our "Bryan Robson and Brian Kidd" chant didn't really catch on....

You must be very close to us then.

I can assure you that this statue always does his best but it is frustrating at times when so many of the other statues don't join in

It was better back then because (and here you're going to stay with me) fans turned up, paid their money, watched the match and (usually) supported the team. What's changed since then? Generation **** (of all ages) who can't stop gawping at their fucking phones.

The kid in front of me, about 16 in the BL Upper spent nearly all the game either on his phone or reading the programme intently, there's a match going off in front of him and he's paying no attention at all. I just don't get it, what's wrong with these people. My 9 year old sits and watches all the game, although he knows better than to ask for my phone

We have to accept every fan supports us in a different way & we have fans of all ages. Some shout & sing, some applaud good play & some come & sit & be quiet.

Just because all 27 thousand don't sing for 90 minutes doesn't mean they're less of a supporter.

The lads at the back of the Kop on most gangways certainly DON'T do enough. I look around and see large groups of lads together who could easily get things going but they just don't.

Maybe the worst of them all is gangway F, the first block right of centre. If they could ever be arsed then it would at least link G to E and make it loud more often.

I do have a suggestion that could improve things on the Kop. There's space to stand on the steps at the back either side of the gangway E entrance. I had a look last night and reckon at least 25 fans could squeeze in there. It's in a location where a committed group of that size could make a big difference. Just get in 10 minutes early and claim your spot.

personally felt the crowd was positive and in good voice in the 2nd half

i do agree about the social media /on phones too much comments ,
also blocks G and H used to generate allot of noise ( and last night was not bad at all ) before the incidents halted things there in 2003 ish .

if the people who are so critical of the crowd /atmosphere actually joined in it would louder also

don't care what anyone says but having an away support actually sing also helps generate an atmosphere
this season (and many before ) i cant think of many at all that supported their team and generated noise from the away end - no where near what us Blades do when we are away - maybe Leeds /Birmingham - that's prob all i can think of ?
