Crowd incident

I nipped out for a drink during the stoppage, I assumed it was a pitch invader but people in the shoutbox saying medical incident?

Pretty short stoppage if that was the case then.

Around the 69-70 minute mark, a Watford fan was on the pitch side of the boards. Was escorted back to the fan side, then out the gates.

The stoppage occurred around the 73 minute mark, commentators said it was another pitch invasion.

Fan had an allergic reaction, couple of Blades tried to alert the officials and got kicked out for it then the police allowed them back in.

Pretty sure both were Blades trying to get attention because nobody was coming to assist with the medical emergency that both sets of fans were waving and shouting about.

Only if they were blades dressed in Watford shirts.

They were blades. Think a watford fan tried to grab the lino at one point. Desperately trying to get attention. Stewards and police were just sat gawping up at us for what felt like an eternity. It was frantic, and some very scared people around the Incident. Eventually attended to, by the slowest paramedics I've ever seen.

To the perm haired steward that gave large back at the fans....fuck you. Seriously, fuck you.

On the TV I noticed Watford fan getting marched out after looking like he jumped the advertising board just beforehand. Was that part of it?

Hope the person makes a full recover from whatever the apparent allergic reaction was.

Really, when the new guidance is to alert stewards and not players, referees, or team staff on the touchline..

If he's giving shit to fans he needs sacking....

While ever the authorities treat all football fans like trouble makers and second class citizens this will keep happening. It was obvious to anyone who’s been in a football crowd that it wasn’t trouble (I was behind the goal so couldn’t see) but I knew it was something serious. For stewards to ignore it completely (even though all Watford fans were pointing and trying to get attention too) is a disgrace and could have cost someone their life. To then just wrestle the bloke who tried to get their attention without so much as a by your leave said it all. If it was my dad / mum / sister / brother needing attention I’d be taking this a lot further.
To need the fans to sing “stop the match” in order to get attention is disgraceful.

That's what I saw at around 68 minutes

Last season we had a couple of incidents and everyone was very quick to stop the game and get help so no idea why the reaction was so slow today .

Hope the poor lady is ok.

I was sat on the front row by the corner flag. And hence miles away from whatever the medical emergency was. (Which seemed to be very near the back of the stand). The thing is the Police & Stewards just don't understand the crowd dynamic. And, we knew that. But, that's their job. People at the back, near the incident, start shouting & waving. There is a simple ripple, Mexican wave, effect down & across the stand. People near the emergency services join in. Because they can easily attract the attention of the emergency services. Those people are inevitably at the front, because that's where the stewards & plod are.

So, now you have people miles away from the incident, with no fucking idea what is going on. Screaming at the Coppers to do something. And for the ref to stop play. Even though those, perfectly understandable, interventions might not be warranted.

The one thing that sorts that. That placates the crowd nowhere near the incident. But near the emergency services is ACTION. That's the dynamic of a crowd. If six Coppers & six Stewards run up that aisle, the crowd calms.

Instead they stand there because "our colleagues are dealing with it", and they create a confused security issue out of an emergency issue.

Eventually a suit turned up with a badge "Ian". Described himself as Crowd Supervisor (or some shit). He's not got a head set on. He's taking verbal, second hand updates from plod, stewards & St John's. He knows less than anyone else what is going on. And, a suit turning up energises the crowd - do something, do something. But, he's in the dark, so doesn't do the one thing that would help - walk up the aisle even if not needed. (tbf, he eventually does).

None of them understand the dynamics of a crowd. So, they only add to the confusion.

I was nowhere near it but hopefully she’s alright.

Have to say massive shirking of responsibilities from all those stewards nearby who knew something was up but I reckon had no clue what to do. Two Blades fans run on the pitch to get some attention and they just get tackled and carried off before anyone even thinks to look at what’s happening?

A fight nearly kicked off with two Watford fans as well. A bloke with a kid having a right old go at a Watford fan with long hair. Anyone know what that was about? The guy kicking off was near to where it happened (but Watford end) and so wondered if he was trying to get something to happen too. His little kid was in tears at him kicking off though, bless him.

If that was part of a medical emergency hopefully Watford will see sense and not ban him from future games

I was very close to the "pitch invasions". Two Utd fans who tried to get on the pitch basically had to go over the top of me. Every fan (both sides) I saw who was apprehended by the stewards & police was subsequently brought back to their seats. I'd be amazed if it was taken any further. Handshakes & backslapping all round as far as I could see.

They were let back in after a 10 minute cool off.

Sounds like that part of it was handled well at least then

I was pulled out (sadly not off) and had my pic taken by plod and wasn't let back in.
I was going slightly mental though so on reflection, now I've calmed down, it was probably the right decision, them having no clue what was going on.
It was a total shit show.. And I just hope I don't get a ban if they forward it to the club.

It was my lad and his mate who ran on, cops didn't get involved, chief steward told them to go back in and the steward who tried to stop them was moved to another part of the ground.

I wasn't allowed back in.
I'd not had a drink or anything. I don't drink, and don't do lines or any of that shit.
Plod took my pic and said I'd be reported.
Who do I need to contact at sufc?

If that were me. I'd just let it run it's course. Don't stick your head up too high. Keep everything simple. Let them contact you if they can. Stick to the very simple line - very sorry, utter confusion, done with the best intentions.

Medical emergency. Stewards very slow to react.

I’ve never heard the crowd make a noise quite like it, harrowing.

It happened some way behind me but I couldn't see what was happening. Also thought the response of the stewards and medical staff was lax.

Big credit to the Blades who put themselves forward to raise the alarm by taking direct action.

It was quite staggering how long it took them to get up the stand. I don’t think they could have done it any slower if they tried.
