Cresswell Signs

So you think signing Cresswell is positive!

What has he got in common with Horsefield? well, he's the wrong side of 30, slow, will be on big wages, injury prone................

I hope I'm proved wrong and he leads us to promotion..................

to be fair he also has plenty in common with The Chief and HMS Shipperly. And he's already bagged a few from out wide.

To be fair to Cresswell, he's they type of player that represents where the club is at right now. It's not his or Blackwell's fault and it's time the club came clean about the mess we're in, then we can all knuckle down to supporting us through tough times.

Your first statement (in Italics) is spot on alco. However your 2nd (in bold) is way out.

Cresswell sums up Blackwells mentality and essentially what he wants from players. A hard worker completely devoid of any footballing ability. Somebody who is essentially not a very good footballer but will give 100%. A man lacking in ability but who will run, hassle, harry, battle and scrap for the cause.

But given that that's Blackwell's style, he fits his bill and is at the right price etc. That's not his fault.

Personally, I'm deperately disappointed that we're back to this, and that players like Cresswell fit our mould more than players like Cotterill. But I regard it as seperate issue to the way he goes around making the best of what he's got, within his view of the way the game is played.

You are right. I don't blame Creswell. He is a trier and he gives 100%. I can't knock him because he was bron shit at football, because he tries very hard to make up for it.

I can however blame Blackwell for his style of play. But you are right Alco, it is a seperate issue. Hence I'll leave it at that. Like you I'm disappointed we are making backwards steps like this signing, but I don't blame Creswell. Nor will I get on his back or knock him if he keeps putting the effort in.

We need a 'target man' type up front when Hendo is injured plus he's been played out wide so he's not that bad a signing as he fills a number of roles.

However, why an undisclosed fee? is it because we are embarrassed by how much we've paid for him or Stoke are embarrassed by how much they got for him????

What an awful signing. Step backwards for the club.
Watching him making the same runs as the other strikers at the exact same time messing it up, handball, no pace, handball, crap at passing, handball, positional sense, handball again. Some people slag monty off for his passing but he "gives 100%" same for creswell im afraid. What a shit signing.
Rather gone into the lower leagues and bought a player with more years on him and took a game like we have with ward.

Sharp could have scored the goals that creswell has, in a matter of fact, i could. Why not buy a proper winger to go on the left rather than a 32 year old ex pig, ex scum.

Another step to playing long ball.

An indication of United's continuing re-profiling.
This signing and confirmation of a few loan renewals will be cited as loads of activity in the transfer window come the end of January.

I'm assuming the reason it's undisclosed is because he's gone cheaply rather than because we've spent a horribly large amount of money, so even if he is on a more than healthy wage hopefully the fee is nominal.

I don't think this is a terrible signing. We have a healthy number of strikers, all of whom offer something slightly different. What worries me is that Blackwell probably won't bring in any more wingers. Am I right in thinking Cresswell was brought in around the time Treacy fell out of favour all of a sudden? That would probably mean he's set to be on the left permanently when Hendo returns.

Poor signing!

Not good enough to deutise for Henderson

But.........................................................has a knack of scoring the odd goal!

On the bench at best!

I don't suppose anybody knows how long a contract he has signed? I guessed it would be 18 months, but can anyone "In the know" confirm?

So then.... How many match winners until he's paid back his "undisclosed" fee?

One in every cup game would be nice! :D

That said, I never actually slagged off this signing...

I would like to offer a sincere apology for being unimpressed when we signed Cresswell on loan. I said that the phrase "has-been" flattered him.

Pigs career - 2 goals in 31 games
Blades career - 5 goals in 12? games

That'll do for me.

To quote Gary Sinclair, "He's red & white he's seen the light"

I was very un-impressed with the Creswell signing but if he carries on scoring then I'm sure i'll be pulled around:D

Out of the lads in our team he is a humble person, wants to impress our fans and show he's here to be a blade. He might have said things in the past, but haven't we all.

His scout reports are always good and consistant, too many fans have rose tinted specs on and expect a level of perfection, one that you will never ever have.

I am no expert in footy, I'm a maths person, so I go on what I see and hear. Cresswell is one of my 2 favourite players and I wish I could work with him more.

The luvvies that slate certain players week in week out really adore the arrogant up on the cloud kind of player. More fool them

He was useless untill he scored. Actually did nothing till then.

Suppose that's the sign of a good striker though.

i watched it on tv, he was pounding down the left, wins more headers than hendo does and all his goals (as i remember them...) were brave, head-knocked-off kind of goals that most strikers would shirk from.

I loved how Cresswell had no idea the ball had gone in. At first I thought he was being ultra cool. But then he turned round, saw where the ball had gone and started celebrating a good few seconds after 23,000 others. :)

He was probably waiting to see if it was going to be disallowed, as there seemed to be a fair bit of arm use in getting in front of Wheater - my first reaction was to look at the linesman.

From being a Cresswell defender when he first arrived to not wanting us to sign him after his performances dropped, I don't really know where I am now. He played well Saturday though so credit where it is due.

flipflop

Gorgeous, wasn't he??

I wondered if the last thing he saw before he got a faceful of mud was the ball hitting the keepers shin.

anyone care to change their views on the lad?

Never stops working and keeps banging them in, been a good signing.

Bags of credit to him. Could end up top scorer which'd be great!

If he bags a hatrick for us in front of the Blades fans next week he'll go down in history as our best ever striker :)

Credit to pup, Latters, Autumn, fishfingers, alcoblade and sitters, all of whom were supportive of Cresswell earlier in the this thread.

My Stokie mates all said we were getting a grafter who's at his natural level, but not really prolific.

Interestingly, he's now scored about the same number of league goals for us as he did for the clayheads, but in half the number of games.
