Gone back to York, the club has just confirmed it, was a good servant for the club and hopefully it leaves some room for Taylor to come in :)

Wish him all the best. Got the fans on side after some moronic boos due to past allegiances and always gave his all.

Good luck Cressy. As Jehovah says, aways gave his all.
UTB

Is he half way there yet or neither up nor down?

Good luck Cressers and thanks for pulling on the red and white

.

The contract and the extensions that he was given illustrates the madness and poor planning that went on under Blackwell and Birch. The money that we've had to give him has held us back.

Having said that Cresswell seems like a nice guy and he has tried his best. I wish him the best at York.

As did Quinn, Bromby, Geary (Leg-end) & Wilson

I never understand it. Fair do's if they go the other way but by taking players from them it just proves(d) we are/were better than them

He always did his best but his legs had gone 2 years ago. The extensions he was given was sheer lunacy when he did not score very much and clearly was someone who was 'done'. Surprised York have signed him as I am not sure he has even another year left at football league level as harsh as that seems.

He did well on loan and then was alright for a while after that but he has been on borrowed time for a while now.

Sadly he has been quite heavily involved in the side that missed out on the playoffs, then went down, then failed to come up twice (granted did not play much last year). Unfortunately he won't have been on cheap wages and has been part of one of worst United periods in my lifetime. Seems a genuinely honest bloke though and not his fault our board decided to sanction contracts for him on ridiculous wages but he is not someone who you can say has been a success and other than the odd moments he was mostly an honest trier who was simply not good enough no matter how experience or what a 'good old pro' label he got.

Thanks for the effort you put in Cressy. Some others could have took your example. Yes Mrs Doyle I mean you.

Good luck Cressy! Always gave it everything even when he was clearly not fit. Great example to some of our more precious players and always up for the battle.

I think Deadbat forgets that two years ago he Cresswell was performing brilliantly alongside Ched in an excellent strike partnership.

Hope he does well for York. Cheers Cressy!

Yep good luck to him but probably did overstay down to silly contract extensions. He should have gone after we failed to get promotion the first time round.

The behind you goal is a classic though.

i'm over the moon if he's gone. did some damage for us in the half season he first signed but was largely pants after that. played too many times at the wing as well when no where near good enough to. great that we've got rid of his wages. nice bloke im sure tho of course and wish him well.

Nailed it Swiss. One of our most hard working players in recent years.

Good luck at York Cressy.

Best wishes to Cressy.

At the beginning of last season, Cressy came out of the weights room at Shirecliffe, one saturday morning and came over to the Development Squad (U8s) and shook the hands of all the little un's. He didn't have to do it, nobody asked him, it was just a genuine nice touch from a genuine player.

He's well liked at York, he was just what they needed last season when they were battling relegation. Maybe the legs aren't what they used to be, but he's still savvy enough at League 2.

I think I am right in saying that makes Doyle now our longest serving first team player, having been at the club for all of two and a half years

Did he join before Collins? And did Maguire not make a first team appearance before Doyle had joined?

So that must mean there are now no connections with the Blackwell era.

I'm pretty sure they joined on the same day if memory serves me well. Maguire came in towards the end of that season, think he only played 6/7 times.

I think Doyle came first - he made his debut on 1/2/11 v Leicester and Collins on 5/2/11 v Ipswich (though Collins had had a previous loan spell with us playing 2 games in 2006). Maguire debuted on 12/4/11 v Cardiff.

You're right, Doyle was the 26th January and Collins was the 31st. It just shows the sheer volume of players that have come and gone over the last few years!

When we signed Cresswell I thought it was nuts as his recent scoring record was poor and I thought his legs were gone. I was wrong - for 12 months. He was very good in his first season, but fell off a cliff in the relegation year. He had a bit of a bounceback as Evans' foil the year after in an easier league, but last season made it clear his time had gone.

His contract was in the Monty class - too much money for far too long.

Fair play to him for re-negotiating his deal to help with the FFP stuff last year and for being willing to go out on loan.

My favourite goal of his? The one he got against Bournemouth when he swept the ball in whilst sitting on his arse....

Happy trails to him.

I also assume York are paying him less than he would get at United over the next two years, so it seems money is not the be all and end all to him.

George Long appeared on the bench a few times before Doyle arrived. Does that count?

Here's the squad for the Norwich match before Captain Fantastic's arrival

Where are they now.....

5 of that startng XI (including the entire defence ) - Mattock, Lowry, Bartley, Parrino and Bent - were loan players. No wonder we were shit that season.

Putting ability and contracts to one side, Creswell never once left the pitch having not given everything he possibly could have.
Had one or two younger, fitter and more talented players done the same over the coarse of his time here, we wouldn't be where we are today.

Simonsen: Dundee (Scottish First - similar standard?)
Mattock*: Sheffield Wednesday (Championship - higher)
Lowry*: Millwall (Championship - higher)
Bartley*: Swansea (Premiership - higher)
Parrino*: unattached
Quinn: Hull (Premiership - higher)
Montgomery: CC Mariners (Australia - lower?)
Bent*: unattached
Cresswell: York (League 2 - lower)
Ward: Derby (Championship - higher)
Evans: HMP Runcorn

Subs
Long: United
Ertl: Portsmouth (League 2 - lower)
Lowton: Aston Villa (Premiership - higher)
Yeates: unattached
Kozluk: Ilkeston (Northern Premier - lower)
Bogdanovic: unattached

Darren calls it - 5 loanees is far too many but having the entire defence on loan was ridiculous. In addition, over half the team is now playing at a higher level than United, which adds weight to the argument that it was shocking management more than poor players which caused our relegation.

Can't diagree with any of that, except I would say the Scottish First Division is definitely a lower standard given that Murphy, who was apparently a stand out player in the Scottish first tier, looked an average English third tier player. I would put the Scottish second tier as equivalent to the lower 4th tier/higher conference in England.

Murphy came from Motherwell who are actually a Scottish Premier League outfit, not a first Division outfit :D..

First Division is almost defiantly lower than us as most say the Premier is lower Championship/high League One standard... Bar Celtic.
