I'm not the one calling him a great manager after 7 league games. I hope you're right but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Correct me if I'm wrong but legendary manager Nigel Adkins had a better record at this stage last season, didn't he?
Yes but we have a lot better squad than this time last
season.
We started off nervous but we are on the move now

My criticism was based on how the signings were going. I wasn't calling for his head after 4 games. Some were. I was worried though.

I'm amused how the following results:

2-3 win against AFC Wimbledon (a dire team just promoted) currently 21st in the league
1-2 win against Gillingham (with a 91st minute penalty due to a stupid handball) currently 10th in the league
2-1 win against Oxford (poor team just promoted) currently 11th in the league

Mean that we have a great manager.

He's done really well to quickly turn things around. Let's give it a bit longer before giving him the keys to the city shall we?

Mmm, maybe we should have asked for the Bolton home game to be brought forward instead eh?
We can only beat the teams we are scheduled to play, and we did just that.

fuck me it's bladey bladey fanboy club night. We're 12h in League 1. When we're running away with the League I'll start singing his praises as our saviour.

Jeez.

I repeat, he's done really well to turn it around so quickly, but we've played poorer sides. We'll face a lot sterner tests and there are still issues. The defence for instance. I was worried with the way he was handling pressure but he's come through it. I think the formation suits us. Hopefully it will work at home as well.

and why did you react when people were calling for his head after 4 games?

It's just silly talk at this stage. It doesn't offend me but this is an internet forum and everyone is allowed views. We're currently mid table. Sure, it's looking up, but it was looking a lot different just 4 games ago.

I'm sure the 'slag Billy off' thread will be growing the next time he's rude enough not to score a goal!
Like the 'slag chris hussy thread' will be when hes only played 3 games ?

Won 3, lost 3 and drawn 1 in League 1. Possibly the best manager in the world.
It is still too early to make a full appraisal of CW, but after a poor start 3 wins on the bounce will bring confidence into the squad, in two of the games we had to come from behind.

By Christmas we should have a better picture of how the team has progressed under CW.

I'm really pleased at the turn up in fortunes after the diabolical first matches and, oops, they done it again, my optimism has returned and I fully expect us to be up there by the end of the season..

But truth be told, it's still early days and Wilder being a Bladey Blade means very little against him being an excellent manager at the Cobblers and developing as such for us. More power to his elbow.

What a pathetic comment Hussey came with pedigree in this division it isn't working .
We only ten games in FFS

What pedigree? Have a look at Roy's thread when he signed. The only person bigging him up was the manager. And you're right, it's ridiculous to write him off at this stage.

As you say we're only 10 games in so why are people saying the manager is the best thing since sliced bread?

Wether you agree or not Chris Wilder is formulating the best squad since Wilsons first season

Maybe wishful thinking but I feel that Wilder could in time be the next John Harris and that's the biggest compliment I can give, he seems to understand the club and its fans

Bloody hell Adams to Harris that's some going.
Long long way to go to get to Harris territory, but it's starting to look promising.

No he didn't ,results wise he might ,but he did fuck all behind the scenes and the club was going to shit ,Wilder has changed the whole feeling in the club.
Spot on. Clearly the guy has a seriously low level of football understanding.

Because it's no dafter to give the manager a bit of credit after 3 wins than it is to slate him after a couple of signings before a game has been played.

Where and who has said that ?

Thing is if we had lost those 3 games by similar small margins you would calling for Wilders head

I'd like to add one angle to this debate:

The reason Oxford are 11th, Gillingham 10th and Wimbledon 21st is down to us beating them.

Had they turned us over, Oxford would be joint second. Had they turned us over, Gillingham would be outright second. Wimbledon would be joint 17th.

It's slightly misleading to dismiss their credentials after we've beaten them.

The league is very tight at this early stage. All we can do is win and 3 on the spin is encouraging for any fan, surely?

You're a twat

Or he is just not going over the top because we have won 3 games.

Great win today and hope our form continues but sadly for us the season doesn't finish in September. Its where we are in May that counts.

Hey come on, we're joint top of the league with the mighty Scunny in the last three game form table. ;)

Seriously though, I think Scunny away in 2 weeks will tell us a lot about where we are at.

And where they are too, maybe we should let teams compare themselves against us for a change.

One or two slightly harsh comments aimed at Robbie.....terrible start now a great recovery to put us within striking distance of the top six but Peterborough are no mugs and Scunny coming up let's keep behind the lads and see where we are after next five games. I am not convinced yet that we will rip this league up but let's see shall we.

I don't believe anyone thinks we'll rip this league up. However, I also think we now have a competitive squad and shouldn't be scared of any team in this league

As I keep saying, CW needs time.and we have to give him that time. He'll sort us out, of that I'm convinced

It's still early days and we all know how quickly it can come crashing back down to earth!

What is do like tho is Wilder identified what's gone wrong and has generally called games as I've seen them. He's called out a lack of desire to go forward and be on the front foot, and stated where players have been weak and taken the easy option in humping the ball long instead of keeping hold of it and showing some bottle to do the right things. And then stated we would be working on that - we look like we might be seeing signs of improvement in the play and the results now. When I compare it to what we heard last year Adkins never once identified in interviews etc what the issues were and we never actually saw an improvement from game 1 to game 46 - I was never convinced he knew himself.

In addition, he hasn't been afraid to make changes instead of persisting with things that weren't working i.e Hammond and Jay last year. I'll be prepared to be let down, as it is united but I feel better than 3 weeks ago.
Good post. He seems to be doing the right things rather than just saying the right things but can't get carried away as it's a marathon etc etc.

Given the 22 out ,12 in scenario, including the fact that he's got an entirely new defence and goalie, I'd say that we need to adapt the usual "judge them after 10 games" into a "judge them after 15 games" this year. Interesting to see where we will be after the Bradford away game.

Thank goodness it doesn't as we wouldn't even be in a okay off spot, good form or not :)
