Three games ago there were plenty comparing him with Weir, Micky Adams etc. Must admit I had my doubts but he's gritted his teeth, identified weak links and changed things around. If there were any doubts about Wilder's ability to handle the top job at the Lane then surely they must have all but gone now. Promotion this season or not I'm now convinced he's the guy for the long term.

It's still early days and we all know how quickly it can come crashing back down to earth!

What is do like tho is Wilder identified what's gone wrong and has generally called games as I've seen them. He's called out a lack of desire to go forward and be on the front foot, and stated where players have been weak and taken the easy option in humping the ball long instead of keeping hold of it and showing some bottle to do the right things. And then stated we would be working on that - we look like we might be seeing signs of improvement in the play and the results now. When I compare it to what we heard last year Adkins never once identified in interviews etc what the issues were and we never actually saw an improvement from game 1 to game 46 - I was never convinced he knew himself.

In addition, he hasn't been afraid to make changes instead of persisting with things that weren't working i.e Hammond and Jay last year. I'll be prepared to be let down, as it is united but I feel better than 3 weeks ago.

Won 3, lost 3 and drawn 1 in League 1. Possibly the best manager in the world.

Really?

FFS, 18 players out and 12 in, give the man a chance! He's seen the weaknesses and quickly acted on it to improve things and the last 3 games has shown that. Sure, we still have work to do but everything just feels so much better right now.

I'm not the one calling him a great manager after 7 league games. I hope you're right but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Correct me if I'm wrong but legendary manager Nigel Adkins had a better record at this stage last season, didn't he?

No he didn't ,results wise he might ,but he did fuck all behind the scenes and the club was going to shit ,Wilder has changed the whole feeling in the club.

Always had faith he's the right man to take us forward. Remains to be seen if that's the case, but I am convinced he's da man.He just needs some time. He hasn't just changed the team, he's changed the squad, the back room staff and the whole ethos of the club

I stuck another £50 on them tonight. Yes there'll be some downs to come, but I believe there'll be more ups

Give him some breathing space and he'll get us out this league

I'm even having a couple in his name tonight.

Wilder............. He da man :)

Slating a manager a month before a ball has even been kicked, that's the definition of getting ahead of yourself.

My criticism was based on how the signings were going. I wasn't calling for his head after 4 games. Some were. I was worried though.

I'm amused how the following results:

2-3 win against AFC Wimbledon (a dire team just promoted) currently 21st in the league
1-2 win against Gillingham (with a 91st minute penalty due to a stupid handball) currently 10th in the league
2-1 win against Oxford (poor team just promoted) currently 11th in the league

Mean that we have a great manager.

He's done really well to quickly turn things around. Let's give it a bit longer before giving him the keys to the city shall we?

Why not get ahead of ourselves? Those who want to talk their own club down always do. Do they have exclusive rights?

No, and I had a go at people calling for his head. Read the first two posts and tell me that's not an overreaction.

Even if it is, why does it offend you and spark your own silly reaction?

and why did you react when people were calling for his head after 4 games?

It's just silly talk at this stage. It doesn't offend me but this is an internet forum and everyone is allowed views. We're currently mid table. Sure, it's looking up, but it was looking a lot different just 4 games ago.

I'm sure the 'slag Billy off' thread will be growing the next time he's rude enough not to score a goal!

Have to agree and say that the OP and the second post are an overreaction at this point in the season.

Still early days yet but 3 wins on the spin and it's looking very promising.

And the signings hadn't kicked a ball yet either. And over a month was left of the transfer window....

If you're going to be that quick to criticise about unknown outcomes then you're not really in the best position to tell people to not get carried away when things go well either.

Sorry mum. The signing of Chris Hussey was a masterstroke.
