Where on earth these droves of people have come from to criticise United I do not know. Probably the same place they came out to watch the boxing day game after keeping away mosy of the year. Posters that have barely posted before have suddenly appeared to slag off United. Wilson should be replaced by Hill/O'Driscoll, we are absolutely rubbish, McCabe needs to spend and la de fuckign da. The same fickle bunch were out after the Tranmere game shouting this and that. It was very quiet when United suddenly went top of the league. The another win at home to Scunny and more tumbleweed. Then a loss to bottom of the league and the world is ending. Posters like Mic and crew will have been rubbing their hands. Some of the over the top bollocks on here just makes me despair. What a bunch of fickle simpletons make up some of our fan base. No doubt these melodromatic numpties will be out in drones if we lose to Donny. I bet it will be like a morgue if United go to that plastic stadium and get a result mind.

Good job we get on Ollie or I'd be outraged by that! Happy New Year and I cannot believe you cycled to Crawley!

Strange Ollie only a month ago you were posting how we have such a poor record against the top teams and how we would have to improve on the run in to xmas etc etc , seems like a couple of days on the top spot has got you all giddy.

Exactly! We play well against Scunny, go top and there isn't too much reaction on here. Yet, lose to Hartlepool drop to SECOND and the end of the world is nigh! And everyone and their dog is on moaning and groaning and saying sack the manager! Sometimes I really, really despair.

As a ST holder of 30+ years that was right up there as one of the worst performances I've ever seen - considering the dire opposition. No quality and no passion. Both full backs were atrocious (could Westlake have given their winger any more space?!). Maguire was little better and should be fined by the club for his brain dead booking at the end. Cofie clearly isn't good enough and needs to be sent back for his own good as well as ours.

Apart from Flynn (who wasn't great) the rest gave shameful performances and frankly many of them didn't seem to care.

We may still go up - but whoever goes up from this poor division will need to make 4 or 5 good signings to have any chance of staying up.

The only bright spot was that any scouts looking at Maguire or Long may decide to look elsewhere.

Poor quality I can just about accept (provided it doesn't happen too often) but poor quality and no effort/passion is unacceptable.

If you have been a st holder that long you must have severe memory loss if you think that was one of the worst performances you have ever seen(unless you are talking about one of the top 100 worst performances) ....the spineless tenure under Micky Adams had many games far worse than that as did numerous games under McEwan,Porterfield,Bassett,Warnock and Blackwell

Yesterday was less than amusing, we were poor generally and 'poor' normally would be enough to beat 'Pool, but yesterday they showed bollocks and played without fear, sensing we were there for the taking, I give them credit for that! Howard showed he still has it around the box when the ball is in the air and he took Harry for a ride yesterday, I suspect Collins' presence may well have nullified Howard more effectively.

What is amusing however, is the reaction by some on here. The usual suspects I can understand as their only sexual pleasure is a United defeat, so we can hardly deny them that gratification occasionally;)

The other category of whinger is what I put down to being unable to stomach defeat without resorting to outlandish statements, predictions and opinions on players and future prospects. What has been achieved so far seems to all of a sudden never have happened and, despite the poor standard in this division, we are where we are by being (at this point) the second best team (that is FACT by the way Wardlow Wanderer, not like your prediction for the future, which is currently only in your head).

Whether we go up auto or even get into the play offs is still in the lap of the Gods, or more like whether DW is allowed leverage in the transfer window to shuffle things around with both 'outs' and 'ins' which ultimately make us stronger with more depth (depth of squad is our achilles heel at the moment).

Hats off to Ollie, Super Pig and Matt Bianco for bringing a bit of sanity to the proceedings on here (apologies to any other positive person I may have missed off that list, other than Foxy who views it realistically, thoughtfully and perceptively by default). Disclaimer - Not brown-nosing BTW:rolleyes:

Always good to read a bit of common sense. If it wasn't the holidays I would have skipped most of this once I recognised who was posting. For the most part I like to hear from those who made the game as it fills in for all the bits I can't get through Radio Sheffield, so I will add my thanks to those of LSF and, in particular, to Foxy and Linz for creating and maintaining this site. All the best SUFC for a great New Year!!!

I'm past caring ......................... I'm not really ......but it helps if i say i am.

Every time we lose its the "worst performance ever" etc.

I'm not making any excuses for yesterday but surely the state of the pitch was a great leveller for some reason Hartlepool showed more desire to adapt.
There were two many posing out there in fact most of them.

I've been looking at some of the posts on other threads regarding the manager no way should Wilson be replaced at this stage, after one inept performance, give me a break.
We lost two key players in Millar, Collins he started what we all thought was the strongest eleven at his disposal, it didn't work out he can't vouch for players attitudes and shit happens and like most Blades I left the lane well pissed off.
Donnys another game and if the players show the desire like the majority of the away games we'll get the result.

Not read all this.
We lost, we're 2nd, it was disappointing, it's United get over it. It's always been this way.

Completely agree apart from your last sentence as we will now be three key players down. The moaners will have an absolute field day if Donny beat us :( Just hope the fans get behind the team throughout the game.

Just being the perennial optimist

No danger the blades will be vocal we're away aren't we!

look i've worked it out.. it's all become clear.. it's perfectly simple

we were highlighted on the championship show.. it was the curse of clem :D

Ey up Mic. Happy new year to you too.

Hopfully you'll have to resort to posting about curry or sumert agein if we get a result at Donny ;)

Strange Ollie only a month ago you were posting how we have such a poor record against the top teams and how we would have to improve on the run in to xmas etc etc , seems like a couple of days on the top spot has got you all giddy.

I am just being objective. Emotions have been running high and there was some proper bollocks spouted in my opinion. I just countered that with my opinion. Plus I love playing devil's advocate ;)

We have improved on the run into Christmas and that is why we went top. The Hartlepool game was a big disappoint, there is no doubt about that. But for me it was a bit of a one off. It was kind of like when we played well the other season against Scunny, yet got beat 4 nowt at home. It was a little like Exeter last season where we underestimated the team and made a lot of silly mistakes. However we lie 2nd and still in with a big shout of automatic promotion. If we continue to match results like we did in the first half of the season then we will get a mid to high 80's point tally which will probably be enough. Let's see.

My opinions in general have not changed. I am not fully confident Wilson will do the job. I find him too conservative and negative and think he should probably be doing better than he is. I have said before he should take us up with this team, no excuses. On resources he should take us up as clear winners. But I do not see the point in sacking him now. Nor do I see the point of using a poor home result as an excuses to smash the club.

This is exactly the type of over the top, fickle post I am talking about. I can only think that you bumped your head very hard recently, to think that Hartlepool was the worst performance you had seen at the Lane for 30 years. This season we were arguably as bad against Shrewsbury and Oldham. Tranmere a few weeks ago was the worst performance ever to many on here. Last season Exeter and Oldham at home were dire. Under Adams there was a host of terrible performances, I take it you did not go to any of away games under ale house Micky either. Under Blackwell there were some absolute shockers too. That is just our recent history and not mentioning some of the lost years under Warnock, Heath's terrible reign, Thomphson's shocking tenure, Basset towards the end, Kendall when he hit the bottle again, Spackman after Donaghie left etc. I might put it in the top 100, but to say it was the worst performance for 30 years is just silly.

Look on the bright side - After we've lost 5-0 to Donny, the rest of the fixtures until mid March are mid and bottom of the table teams, so we can restrict it to just 1-0 and 2-1 defeats.

The common theme throughout is don't moan about piss poor performances get behind the Blades!

Could Mr Wilson take note and get the players to get behind the Blades and put in a bit of effort!

I want to see players run through brick walls for the cause - currently all I see is players with no heart, commitment or balls!

I think yesterdays result confirms we are not very good, all season we have had the apologies for poor performances backed up by the lines we are still unbeaten blah blah we are still in the top 2 blah blah, next it will be we are still top 6 or we are still in the top half of League One.
And it is a very piss poor League One we find ourselves stuck in for the foreseeable future .................. I say that because unless we bring in 2 or 3 good recruits this January there is no way we will maintain a top 2 spot, even a play off spot will be in doubt. The time is coming when we will be overtaken by the likes of Brentford, Swindon and little old Doncaster who have games in hand and the hard charging Bournemouth (30pts from 36 with Eddie Howe) only two wins behind us now, and don't rule out Coventry either.
Anybody here confident that we will bring in some quality next month when we have a owner with a ready made FFP excuse not to spend another penny on the team ?
Should the miracle happen does anyone here feel confident in Danny Wilson and his transfer dealings ?

Yes, I do. But then again I am not an opportunist gleefully seizing on a very poor [appalling, in fact] performance to give vent to my ridiculous prejudices.

Anyway, do you like a bet? I do. Shall we see if money matches mouth?

£100 we finish in the top two?

£1000 we finish in the top six?

£50 per team we finish above each of the teams you fear so much?

Here's the best bit. Get the best odds you can at the bookies and I'll beat them for you. The stakes can also be adjusted, up or down, to your liking.

Are you drunk :)

Obviously you have way too much disposable income more than I can afford to match. Now if you really want to show everyone how rich, big and brave you are I suggest you take note of your wager and should you not win pay to a charity at say odds of 2/1
My suggestion would be to the British Heart Foundation, hows about it Pinchy or are you all gob and just have money to back it ?

And how about if he does?

Let's face it we only have 6 players in our squad who are capable of standing out (for the right reasons :) ) at League 1 level.

Miller (when he's played)
Maguire (when teamed with a old hand)
McDonald (when he wants to)
Collins (normally seems to give you 7 or 8 /10)
Blackman (when he wants to)
Kitson (when he's fit)

The loss of Miller and Collins is a huge hammer blow down the spine of the team and simply have to be replaced or I can see a slow painful second half to the season.

I agree with that - I actually meant to single out Williams rather than Hill.

No, thank you. My charitable giving is spoken for. I gamble for fun. I also find the offer of a serious wager tends to make Gobshites reflect with greater care upon the nonsense they speak or write.

The bet is still available at reduced stakes as I made perfectly clear.

The problem with Saturday's defeat was the manner of it.

Ever since happy Harry Haslam/Peters (wash mouth out) days United have tended to be a battling side.

I saw not one ounce of that on Saturday. That's what annoyed me and said that from my seat at the time.

It is one thing supporting your team but when you are outclassed you should hold your hands up. We were outclassed on Saturday by a mile. It did get comical regarding the Hartlepool defence, but bless 'em they came fired up and got what they deserved. We just turned up and er that's it. The performance was gutless and that in my view is the important bit, not that we lost.

Hartlepool did seem full of big blokes whereas we seem somewhat tiny. On that pitch I would like to have seen their defence being made to turn whilst our lads ran at them. Perhaps we should have had Jessica Ennis playing. At least she can run.

Let's keep a sense of proportion.

Miller was starting to come good but was hardly in the Evans class. There's no guarantee that he would have scored prolifically in the second half of the season. Anyway, it looks as though we've got Murphy now. We also have a number of promising youngsters who could play a part.

Collins is expected to be out for two months. A replacement is unlikely to be found for tomorrow's game, so that probably means he will miss about 8 league matches by the end of Feb. Hardly a disaster, but a setback that can be covered with a loan. Collins might come back earlier, with a protective mask.

I'm expecting us to get thumped tomorrow by Donny but I don't agree that Wilson should be made a scapegoat. Events have conspired against us but I expect the team to be back on track within a week or two. If not, then that is the time to start worrying.

Looks to me like you are the one now reflecting with greater care, seems I was right you are just all gob. It isn't really big or clever to try making your point with the size of your wallet. I pity your kind.

My kind?.......

First Collector: At this festive time of year, Mr. Scrooge, it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute.
Ebenezer: Are there no prisons?
First Collector: Plenty of prisons.
Ebenezer: And the union workhouses - are they still in operation?
First Collector: They are. I wish I could say they were not.
Ebenezer: Oh, from what you said at first I was afraid that something had happened to stop them in their useful course. I'm very glad to hear it.

:)
