As United's position next year has been decided bar the shouting for a good few weeks now, coupled with his contract running out shortly, why hasn't a new one been sorted out by now for Coutts? As a Bosman, he'll get a nice bung up front should he sign for someone else. Seeing as his agent will get a nice cut too, you can bet he's touting him around as we speak. As Joe Strummer might be asking if he were still alive, will he stay or will he go?

Someone said he's bought a new house in Dore. If that's right I'd assume he's staying.

Wilder has said two things about contracts. Firstly the important players who are out of contract all have year extension trigger clauses and secondly no new contracts would be discussed until after the season ends. I respect that. If a player doesn't like what he hears their form could dip as is the same with a player once they get a new contract.

I'm sure the club will counter the one year extensions with longer more lucrative contracts now our status is confirmed.

Looks like a happy bunny to me and I would be surprised if he, or any other key player for that matter, tried to engineer a move away from what is happening at this football club.
Special times are ahead and you would be mad as a player if you didn't want to to be involved.

The thought crossed my mind but I can't find anything that specifically refers to Coutts. Have you got any reference on this?

P.S. Coutts wouldn't have been included in the "important player" category when Wilder said this!

Wilder said Coutts, Basham and Done (shudder).

When a player's contract ends, his agent will negotiate a hefty signing on fee regardless of whether he stays or goes elsewhere. Under the Bosman rules, if your best player's contract is up you have to make him an offer better than he can get from another team, or he'll be off.

Barnsley had no option but to sell 3 of their best lads in January because they would not have been able to compete for their services when their contracts ran out in the summer, and they'd have left anyway but the club would have got no fee for them. But that's Barnsley. They have a built-in disadvantage at Second Division level because they are a relatively small club with less money to be able to pay than Villa and the Piggies.

Those circumstances don't apply to us. We probably can compete, financially, with those spendthrifts but hopefully we'll choose not to upset the apple cart by buying expensive luxuries like the shite that Wednesday have wasted their tuna funds on.

I'm pretty much certain that CW will stay good to his pledge the he won't allow McCabe and the Prince to have their pants pulled down ever again when it comes to agreeing fees/wages with players . The only issue I can see with this highly commendable approach is when we start our recruitment the higher up the leagues we go . Player ' power ' in such situations now is frankly ludicrous .

Stick to your guns CW , if any player , and I do mean ANY player , attempts to take the piss out of us , tell them to fuck off .

Also Freeman, Scougall and Mcnulty. I think only Freeman, Basham and Coutts will have played enough games though. Maybe Done. I think Wilder has been very canny when negotiating this issue with regards to team selection and substitutes.

Agree completely.

You only have to break a wage structure once and you no longer have a wage structure, but you do have a camp full of discontent.

Gerrimsigneduptufty!

What's that song they were singing, by the way? Is it some sort of wrap or hippity-hippity, housy-housy thingy?

Whoomp! There it Is by Tag Team.

The kind of song that confirms a lot of the prejudices you hold against Hip Hop, I'm afraid!

Ahhh ! Remember when this thread was interesting

Good days

Happy with his football ,manager likes him ,championship will suit him ,has a great work partner ,settled in a new house ? Newly born twins I believe and now 90% of the crowd love him. Hes staying ,he and Fleck are our Carter and Reagan ,Starsky and Hutch. Unfortunately there are 10% he will never win over but fuck them.
