Coutts

Said he was shit every time I saw him last season except, perhaps, Swindon when IMO he improved to below average. Was looking forward to being proved wrong following discussions on here this season but have to say it's not happened yet and I still think he's shit.

You can't be right fella. Pinchy has a good eye for a player and because he's not local he's the shizzle.

I think pinchy is seeing someone who used to be a good player, because that's exactly what I see too.

I just sincerely doubt he'll ever be that again.

It's a shame but the injury is chronic it restricts him.

In fairness I'm like pinch in that I like "proper" footballers and while Coutts may try to be more like that than, say, Monty, I simply don't see any decent level of ability.

I like proper footballers, however Coutts and Monty are on opposite ends of a very bad scale.

He still seems like a once quality footballer who has lost the mobility and pace he had due to injury. He's so slow and ponderous now and doesn't have any pace to actually give himself the time he needs.

He was class against Donny and Burton. The issue yesterday was tactical more than anything, the role he'd clearly been asked to play didn't help. He wasn't particularly shit.

He really wasn't class against Donny. That's only class of your standards are very low.

Still think there's a player in there with Coutts..full 90 mins v Donny,an hour where he did quite well v Burton and an hour at Vale..3 games in a week for a player coming back from injury is to early to write him off, especially when he's been decent in the first 2 games.

Class? He did well against 10 men against Donny but was behind, Sharp, Sammon, Alcock and Wallace for MoTM, against Burton the whole midfield were awful, Reed in particular but as a youngster in the very early years of development he'll only get better.

I don't get this obsession amongst our fans that coutts is this player whose been decent in the past and is suddenly going to come good.

He's had a bad injury, he'll never be the player he was, what was that, an average championship/division 1 player.

He's not asked to play cm cos he can't, he's too slow, his body isn't up to the demands of that role.

He only played for 60 minutes against Doncaster ,you didn't go to Burton did you ?
He did ok for the 61 mins he played against Donny as many others did against a very poor 10 men side, I went to Burton and the midfield were poor, both full backs did ok trying to initiate a few attacks but reed and coutts were poor and offered no support going forward.

Agree about the full backs but Coutts was the only player actually forcing attacks on Burton ,put him in central midfield with a decent partner (or 2) you will see a good player ,he would have a much bigger effect on a game ,than Basham ,Reed or Baxter.

What am I on about 90 mins?:D an hour v Donny wasn't it...my memory's getting worse.

John Brayford recently cited him as being one of the best players he's ever played with. I am more convinced than ever that being a good player doesn't always equate to being an effective player.

If he plays all season like he did v.Worcester, we'll be purring about him come April.

Bit concerned about his knee.

It was dislocated. Wonder if there's a similar problem to the one Bryan Robson had with his shoulder popping out as a player.

Once the ligaments and/or tendons have been stretched I wonder if they become too loose to hold the knee in place.

This is what happened with Robson's shoulder repeatedly.

The retaining power of stretched elastic.

:-(

I used to have the same problem as Robson until I had a putti platt operation and its never come out since. Not a nice op and leaves a mess but worth it in the long run.

Did I miss something?

Either that or we're looking at/for different things in him. Thought that was the best I've seen him play for us & that he was excellent throughout. Nothing fancy, just kept making space, kept demanding the ball, & kept it moving.

Needs to be doing that much more often now. (And hopefully the injury isn't at all serious or a revisitation of his past one.)

Yeah top opposition Worcester. Ship him out along with 90% of squad come summer. Another player with loser written all over him. We need young hungry players not ones on their way down the divisions stealing a wage from us.
