Quite right. Fleck has not been himself so far this season, though. When considering the team going forward, we perhaps ought not to assume it’s Fleck and two others. A fit and firing Paul Coutts is more influential than Fleck. I’ll not say he’s a better player (he is) because that is not this discussion.

On the Fleck front, the keen of memory will recall he’s started both his seasons with us quite slowly. Something for him to think on I’d suggest.

The benefit of having upgraded on Evans with Norwood is that we’re hopefully under less pressure to get him back in as quickly as would have been the case otherwise. Coutts is too valuable to rush back – and from everything Wilder has suggested he won’t be. If he returned to full training last week, than he presumably has to do in effect a mini preaseason to build up his fitness. That’ll mean some U23 time carefully built up, and maybe some behind-closed-doors games to add to that.

Which suggests that he lacks discipline in the close season.

rumour of a behind closed doors friendly later this week

Wilder will be very careful with him ,if we can have him back and firing for the second half of the season as opposed to losing him last season it will be a big boost.

Problem with that is no Duffy, and no Duffy = Little to no creativity.

But no Duffy when Coutts is in the side doesn't mean no creativity. And Norwood might also turn out to be creative.

However, I doubt that the same midfield players will start every game. There will be changes. Sometimes to rest players, sometimes to set up differently, sometimes to accommodate injuries. I feel confident that Duffy will figure in a substantial number of games this season.

I wonder if Norwood was brought in because we won't be getting anything like the full Coutts till next season earliest...

I love the fact that on the night Coutts broke his leg he was buzzing we were top of the league
