Our recent blip has been blamed by many on the loss of Coutts. I think the loss of Freeman/Baldock has been more of the issue.
The defence seriously misses having Basham at the helm and Basham is not as effective as a right wing back. Also when Freeman/Baldock are playing wingback, they have Basham on the overlap. I’ve not seen any of the back three supporting Basham in this way.
For me Lundstram has been good in the role he’s played and can’t be blamed overall.

Over the last three games the width that Baldock provides has been missed. We miss our best centre half playing where he should be just as much. We lose so much both in an attacking sense and defensively.

Both. The knock on effect of losing Baldock/Freeman and how it pulls our back three weaker is huge.

However, not sure any of us were prepared for the drop off when Coutts went down.

It's as if him being injured was our self-inflicted 'bounce killer' as we've lacked va-va-boom ever since...

However, im of the belief there's a solution there. Brooks/Duffy behind Donaldson? Something different...

Said the same elsewhere that losing Baldock/Freeman has unbalanced the side & affected others.
Losing Coutts was a massive blow but I think we’d have dealt with it much better if Baldock/Freeman had been fit.

The timing is unfortunate as I think with Coutts fit we probably don't feel the loss of Baldock quite so acutely, likewise the loss of Coutts wouldn't be so noticeable if Baldock was fit and we had our normal balance on the right and Bash in his best position

Basham and Lundstram haven’t done anything wrong really but I’d prefer to see someone like Jake Bennett or Thomas at wingback just to give us a better balance, I know that’s unlikely to happen but it’s something that needs looking at.

Baldock has been training for two and a half weeks now so why he isn’t fit yet is a real concern.

Thomas is playing left back in the 23s and is not ready to play wing back in 1st team.Baldock has not played much football this season ,maybe Wilder feels his fitness levels are not high enough yet

I know it’s all about opinions but if it gives us a better balance then I’m all for it.

For me, Basham isn’t a wingback, he’s been solid in the RCH position and needs putting back there, no one plays this position better than him. He not only covers the wingbacks well, he knows when to get past the wingback when required to do so.

Problem is loosing both Coutts and Baldock/Freeman,

Coutts is the playmaker. We can cover any other position but not his. This is where I feel sorry for Lundstram. I reckon he could step in for Duffy or Fleck but not Coutts. He's on a hiding to nothing at the moment.

Or that's what we're told. Better off not rushing him though

That's exactly the way CW will see the situation too . A 3 or 4 game blip without a RWB or potentially months and a 3rd wingback at the club come JTW. If the situation isn't any clearer come January id expect a loan signing for this position though and not a permanent one .

The Coutts role is a totally different proposition though imo .

If someone had got on the end of his three excellent first-half crosses, that would have helped greatly.
I've not seen the milwall game but I'm just saying over the last few games he's not been that stella, he has always been a better player in the central role then the wing.

It's only a month since we put four past Hull in one of the best performances in recent years, with Basham at right wing back.
Losing Coutts has been a hammer blow however much we look for other reasons/excuses.
Huge challenge for Wilder and one he hasn't sussed, yet.

I think we would have been ok yesterday but for the fact our front two were invisible and our back three defended like keystone cops

If our weakness is teams Harrying us and hoofing the ball down the channels then we are in big trouble

Our way of dealing with it yesterday was to hoof it back or out of play so our midfield was isolated and out of the game

It's easily fixable we just have to get back to basics and be solid again

Our early season form.was built on being organised and I've every confidence the coachIng staff can get us back to this without any major changes

Millwall were out of the game at 1-1 it just looked like a matter of time before we scored but they closed us down bringing the ball out of defence scored a goal that a Sunday league team would have been embarrassed to concede and then completely played us out of the game by reverting to one touch hoof and that was game over

No chance of seeing Jake Bennett this season he’s done his ACL

On top of all this, I think our defence is missing Coutts sat deep, always available to receive a ball , for onward distribution up the pitch.
Spot on Coutts allows the back 3 the option to play short and keep possession moving the opposition about to open up the space. Lundstrum done nowt wrong but it’s not his natural game to go deep

Coutts is a big miss, but I agree with you. No attacking threat down the right without Baldock. CCV never drifts over the half-way line.

He doesn't,then pray tell who crossed the ball for Leon's first goal v Hull?

I haven’t had chance to watch the youngsters this season but I like what I’ve seen of him, hopefully the injury won’t hinder his development like it did Diegos’.

When did it happen?

Basham at RWB just upsets our balance, I’m just trying to look for solutions so we can get Basham back to his strongest position and to get us overloading that side again, not putting too much pressure on JOC and Stevens to do all our wing play.

I think one thing Wilder would be wise in doing would be loaning in suitable player for the right wingback role. Baldock has been the better of the two between him and Freeman, and I imagine Wilder had it in mind that we’d have two fit players battling it out for that role. I worry that Baldock in particular is going to continue to have niggling injuries for the rest of the season – just seems to be the type that picks up muscle issues.

Happened in the Chesterfield game...shame because he was coming along and improving all the time and no doubt would have had a chance these last few games
