Coutts, Fleck and Duffy.. Or...

Just brilliant to even think we are able to have this conversation. Only 2 years ago we would have pissed ourselves to compare.

How far we have come under Wilder!

It wasn't too long ago that the same Tom Huddleston pretty much single handedly ripped up the script and gave us a second half schooling at Wembley Stadium.

But he still looked gash under Adkins and Clough, special players don't look crap even under poor managers.

It's not about blood and thunder, that's not Coutts' game. He passes the ball well and has a good touch, but so do all top midfielders. Compare Coutts at his peak to McCall at 38 and there is no comparison, Coutts is a decent player and Wilder is certainly getting the best out of him. But we can certainly sign players who are better and would enable us to push on.

Did Adkins and Clough play a system and tactics designed to bring the best out of not only Coutts, but the rest of the team??

I take it Leon Britton was gash as well?

Exactly what I'm saying Wilder is getting the best out of Coutts.

I'm not trying to bash Coutts here, the point I'm making is that we now have a very good manager who knows how to get the best out of players.

Tom Huddlestone has had a relatively good career and is still a very good player at Championship level. He would definitely improve our team playing under a manager like Wilder.

A lot of our fans seem to be blinkered into thinking we have the best players in the Championship and they can't be replaced. We have one of, if not the best manager in the Championship, but he can only take us so far with the players and budget at his disposal.

Huddlestone did completely destroy us in the 5-3 FA Cup game I'm sad to recall, but yes we are showing some teams up for complete mugs with the astute players and signings we have :D

I don't think anyone for one minute is suggesting we have the best players in the league. What is evident though is that spending big bucks does not always bring success. Norwich, Sunderland, Villa, Wednesday and Fulham have all spent a fortune and are all sat in the bottom half of the league so far and none of them look any good.

I believe having a strong team is more important than having a collection of strong individuals. What we need, is quality competition that fit in with the group. Just buying any old name doesn't necessarily mean they will gel to the team. It appears Blackman has done that, as has Stevens. I'm looking for more evidence from Stearman and Lundstram but these guys need game time. Lundstram is going to have to do incredibly well to dislodge Coutts or Fleck based on the last two games.

Remind me how good Coutts was under Clough and Adkins. He'd be nowhere near Championship level if it wasn't for Wilder.

That sounds very harsh on Coutts cause obviously Coutts has played his part in turning his career around. But I think it's mainly down to Wilder personally.

Recovery from his injury has helped more, mentally I bet he has more faith in his body as time goes on.

I don't think anyone has a problem if we can sign a better player than anyone in the team.

But today was one of the best midfield displays we've seen for years and the magical 3 were sublime.

Duffy does make the others look good though with his use of space and his "give me the football" mentality.

Really enjoyed today.

I think Huddleston always looks like he is having an enormous sulk that he is not in the middle of Spurs' midfield and first name on the England team sheet.

A player who thinks he is better than he actually is and refuses to accept reality.

To be fair England have had a few of those in the last twenty years.

Genuine question..has there ever been a better midfield than we currently have the pleasure to watch...yep I've seen Hodges/Brown/Cowans etc but have we ever had 3 midfielders like this in the same team?
It might not be our best ever, but considering our recent past, the DufFle Cout midfield will enter Lane folklore in my opinion.

Absolute garbage.
