Really, to use a McCabeism it beggars belief. First we sack a guy with 5 games to go. Of course we have a better replacement lined up don't we. No club in its right mind would do that would it? Well, actually heres Chris. He tries a lot and has passion. He's a blade like the rest of us.

Now, I have nothing against Morgan but his appointment was wrong for him and for us. It all looked great against Swindon as we battered the door down but then when clubs saw that and decided that they could tactically counter it we were fucked. We couldn't even beat 9 men FFS. It was a nighmare that ended with what we deserved at Yeovil.

So, next chance. McCabe and co will have been working tirelessly in the background to secure a new manager before the season even ends won't they? Well actually no. They were that confident we would go up (I assume) that they didn't bother. Chris was the man. But we didn't did we (go up that is). So Chris poor bloke is left defending the indefensible at the end of the season and saying what great chaps everyone was. Even though even he knew better.

Now, though we are a big club aren't we. People will be queuing round the block to apply for a position as Divion Threes second biggest club. Ahh, well now theres the rub no they aren't. So we had a shortlist of 7 fine men. Well actually 2 fine men who both pretty quickly told us to do one. But don't worry we hadn't been leaking the entire process to the media had we? We could still end up with some random bloke and say he was our first choice right?

Actually we had been telling everyone everything. Good old United in their see through knickers showing the world everything on show. So now we are left with Chris Morgan (we already know he isn't that good) and an assemblage of drivel.

If Winter, Green and McCabe get together they could actually make a good management book on this. How not to make leadership appointments. Winter can talk the talk and McCabe can make such a horlicks of it the book would be the ultimate "how not to" guide sitting on every CEO's shelf in the known world.

If by some miracle we get Kenny Jacket or someone with some footballing knowledge then we can perhaps look to make strides. But right now its looking like Sitwell could put his experience and medals in the North East Derbyshire District Sunday League (or whatever) on the table and have a hope of the job. So long as he can work with shit all money and help that is.

Can anyone actually see a single ray of light in all this mess? Could a randomly selected heard of cats have done a better job? I think so.

Alternatively, we had a shortlist of 7 fine men. 2 have turned us down, so we now choose from the remaining 5 fine men.
United have leaked nothing, so we don't know who the other 5 are and can't yet condemn them as an "assemblage of drivel".
Maybe we'll get Kenny Jackett (or someone with some footballing knowledge) as a result of a well thought out, business-like recruitment process rather than by some miracle?

It's looking more and more like an absolute clusterfuck.

If we come out of this with someone like Kenny Jackett then I'll happily take all that back but on the surface of it we appear to be in a right old pickle.

Why ? Maybe McCall and Robinson realised they were not going to get the job and ran up some brownie points. Maybe we are keeping a dignified silence until we have chosen the right man ,maybe not , but the bleating of McCall and Robinson to the press doesnt rate with me.

Do you for one minute think we weren't going to offer the job to McCall? Really?

Look up Sheffield United in the dictionary in a few years and that will be the description: "Absolute clusterfuck"

IF by some miracle some nutter actually takes the job who isn't a last choice bag of shite then we might have just turned a corner. I won't be putting any bets on that though.

well he wouldnt have been in my top ten so why not ?
Fair comment Sitters. But he appears to have been in our top 2, both of who said no. And yes i could be wrong but thats from where I see it.

if i was cynical, i may wonder if all this robinson/mccall/7 man shortlist mallarkey is just a smokescreen to hire morgan and proudly proclaim he was our first choice all along. thereby making it look like we actually gave it some thought, instead of just going for the cheapest option.

Maybe not too far of the mark there 'kennymac'. But it's our own fault, how many times do we have to bend over and be shafted before we say enough is enough. Just this season alone, sold our better players, replaced them with dross, could have waited until the season ended before getting rid of Wilson, but no he thought he could do a 'Mandy'. And now the fiasco of finding the next manager that no-one above the level of running a Sunday pub team would touch with a fucking barge- pole. But heyho we still keep swallowing our own knob. I don't know the answers, but then I'm not payed to. So all that's left is, FUCK McCABE. UTB.

I have looked but can't find clusterfuck in the Dictionary! Lol.
Made me chortle & its my new favourite word - it describes our plight perfectly, but more importantly I intend to use "clusterfuck" at least 3 times today!

He wasnt offered the job though ,he just pulled out of negotiations ,could be a multitude of reasons for this ,the most probable for me would be that he realises he wasnt getting the job and wants to save face at Motherwel.

Morgan is nailed on.

Bladey 100% bladeness.

If that were the case, then Morgan would have have been appointed a couple of weeks back, wouldn't he?

My view is that although he hasn't got - and never was going to get - the top job, but the club are looking for someone who will work with Morgan as part of the management team. If the reasoning for this is out of loyalty for the job he took on at the end of the season allied to his history of the club, then I have no real problem with it.

However, managers presently in positions already have their own teams in place which would appear to be a major sticking point. And if that is the case, and the right man wants his own staff, then the requirements of SUFC must come before those of Chris Morgan.

But perhaps this isn't the main problem. Let's be right about this, the facts (or is that FACTS!) we have no money, club morale hasn't been this low since 1981 and we have far too much deadwood on decent contracts doesn't make this the most enticing job.

I'd say we couldn't have done it any worse, but I assume the Board and Owner are working hard behind the scenes to make it happen with the appointment of the next manager. The sacking of Wilson is now looking even worse now that we're not getting the people who we really want. What's Alan Irvine, or Chris Turner up to these days?

I have serious doubt about the new manager because I think McCall was one of the real positives on the list. Everyone else seems, by comparison, not someone who can unify the club, change the culture within the club, give some positive vibes, anything to get us out of these doldrums.

I'd like to think there is more of a plan behind the scenes (and an appointment is forthcoming) but my honest cynical opinion, based on how United do things is they prob did speak to 4 or 5 candidates informally but that they settled on Robinson first and he either turned us down and then they went for McCall who also turned us down.

Other options appear out of reach now (Barker re-signed at Crawley, even Wilder re-upped at Oxford and Jackett seemingly heading for Wolves in a straight shoot out between him and Davis at Crewe - who for some odd reason dont think has been on our radar)

Now they either are back to square one and complie a new list or appoint one of other less than distinguished candidates (Downes, Southgate) that they allegedly have interest in/have interviewed.

Whichever way you paint it, my gut feeling is that either we are appointing a 3rd, 4th or 5th choice type as could not get our intended targets or we have gone round and round for 2-3 weeks and achieved nothing and now need to start again.

I would like to think there is more of a plan but the fact is the silence eminating from the club is they proabbly felt it was Robinson or McCall and now they are scratching around not knowing what to do next.

I think it will be Morgan named probably later this week or early next week and then the usual guff of 'how we spoke to candidates but Chris was the outstanding choice etc.'

I have no confidence in this board in getting such a huge decision right and it all seems rather amateutrish (if and is a big if what we are eld to believe is right) to sack a manager with noone to take over and now be almost 7 weeks down the line and still have noone installed or look anywhere near close to appointing (surely they had been identifying and talking to clubs/agents in case the Morgan experiment did not work?). Sad as I have to say it; look at Weds with Megson/Jones. A risk but it was decisive and happened quickly. I am not saying we needed to rush things but it seems there was no plan behind the Wilson departure and the subsequent events afterwards confirm the 'make decisions on the hoof' policy.

Surely even the United board are not mad enough to appoint Morgan?

Mind you, they were mad enough to sack an experienced manager who had put us within spitting distance of automatic promotion with 5 games to go in order to replace him with a complete novice, so I suspect anything is possible...

What was Danny experienced at? fucking it up?

It certainly seemed like a 'knee-jerk' or panic decision to sack DW so I'd be amazed if McCabe actually had anyone in mind at that point.

Since the end of the season, I don't think we (as a club) have done anything wrong, we talked to people, had our preferred choices and for whatever reasons, some have fallen by the wayside. It's not as if we've released any lists or commented on any of the speculation.

Bottom line is, we're a 3rd division team with some overpaid players and little money to do what actually needs doing. Despite what I've said about it being a top job, many will not see it as a gamble worth taking at the moment. That's why we'll probably end up with Morgs, someone who is out of a job like Southgate, or someone taking a step up from where they currently are like Boothroyd. The one problem the club does have though is that having set out the 'blueprint' they have to employ someone who at least comes close which rules out plenty.

I notice that Robinson's said nothing official yet though and the local press down there are only re-iterating the rumours from the Stir. Maybe there's some back-tracking and re-hashing that could still be done there ?

Unless we're going around interviewing people we don't want first, before getting onto the serious candidiates.

I don't see what the fuss is about.

You sack a manager right at the end of the season despite being virtually guaranteed a play-off place and still a possible automatic.
You put a man in temporary charge who's never managed a team before.
You fail to go up.
You have no plan as to who to replace him with permanently (or so it seems).
You haven't got a person in place until well after the play-offs have finished despite the fact you've used this very timing issue as an excuse in the past (i.e. not knowing which division you were going to be in) for a season of failure.

What's not to like? It's the Blades way.

Robert Page in suddenly in at 2-1 with BetVictor. Someone either knows something or lumped on a big bet as a gamble. Bears creence to what that guy posted about him impressing at interview. He is number 2 to Micky Adams

Would be a ridiculous punt. No managerial experience and only a year of being a coach at League 2 under alehouse Adams. He missed out on the AFc Wimbledon job that he went for! May aswell pick Morgan if they are going to select him.

He only has one advantage ;) He smacked Doyle once!!! Allegedly.

Why a ridiculous punt ?
If we had selected Robinson,Davis or Smith instead of Wilson 2 years ago, many fans would have been up in arms about cheap option, lack of ambition etc etc. Now some fans are begging us to take one of these three on.A manager has got to start somewhere so why not us.?

What do any of us know about the quality of Page's coaching and people management qualities which would mean he would be a bad choice ? If he got the job, he might be a revelation. If someone experienced got the job, they might be awful (e.g. Adams)

L1 is mainly alehouse football and he may have knowledge of some gems in the lower leagues.

The problem I have is that I don't trust the Board to select the right person (experienced or not) to take us forward.

One can only assume that this is exactly the method we use when recruiting players too, and would explain perfectly why we are where we are today.

That aussie is in the running they all walk around upside down so someone with their brains in their feet would be wacky enough to take the job he would be a mate of McCabe's as well ,nice.

I'd guess that being told to sell and none of the funds raised being made available would be more of a sticking point.

Can get away without your mates being around but to have your hands tied behind your back and up to your neck in shite isn't appealing.

Cheapest and shittest of a shite bunch. Not only is morgan one of the lads like speed was, he`s even more hopeless than speed was. He is 100 per cent fuck up, just like the chairman

Anywhere else I would dismiss that comment, but this is Bladey, Bladeness world. Perhaps they are trying to see who looks best in a blades shirt with No 1 on it.
