Could we cope if Adkins is sacked?

It also took Warnock 7 years to get United promoted having inherited a crock of shit. But even he didn't have a 43-man band of utter garbage to contend with. And nor would he have been able to steer this lot to promotion in the space of a 9 month tenure.
But Colin knocks the shit right out of Nigel?

Yes from someone who said to me this morning "I told you long ago that Scougall is going to Fleetwood on loan". He told me that we are having new players who have agreed to join us (he told me the number). I asked "no matter what division we are in?", he didnt give an answer to that question. He doesnt know who the players are, just the number

What is the number?

Like many I'm split / concerned about backing Adkins in light of some bewildering performances & judgement.

But if he was sacked how would we cope in practical terms? I don't think it's as straightforward.

It's unlikely that we'd have an immediate replacement ready to assume the reins, or at least not a manager of any quality. Apart from Chris Wilder, I haven't any alternative and realistic targets identified.

Without Adkins, who would decide the fate of the out of contract players and those returning from loan? Should we get rid of them all or could Adkins' judgement be flawed when it comes to certain individuals?

How would disrupt our summer transfer plans? Adkins will surely have drawn up his targets in readiness for another league one campaign? Sacking him now would impact our ability to conclude deals early. And how much would our kitty be reduced by having to pay off Adkins and his staff?

I'm not saying the above are reasons to stick with him given both results, tactics and performances. But there are pros and cons of pulling the trigger.
Definitely not if we sack him we have to spend even longer looking for a new manager who'll want to give most of the squad a chance to play because he probably hasn't seen them play for us keep Adkins let him rebuild the team in the summer can all see that theres at least 6 or 7 players who carry the team week in week out long mceverly Baptiste Brayford (when at wingback) Done Adams and sharp

I believe some players have already agreed to join us (I believe recommended by Turnbull and Adkins is happy to sign them) this Summer and this could create problems for the new manager if we sack Adkins. Before you ask, I don't know who the new players are
Ive heard one is Kelvin Wilson from forrest on loan at some point in the week due to the Edgar call up and Baptiste injury

Not wise to post the number in here. It could increase before 31st August. Dont know how many are pre-contract, how many are current players who have agreed a new contract, how many will be on season loan (remember no more emergency loans next season)

Interesting, I dont know who are the players. It wouldnt surprise me if Long has been offered a new contract and has agreed to it

Kelvin Wilson cb at Forrest not been used for a bit as for long I agree probably has been offered and accepted new contract he's learning more each game so I reckon he sees his time as our first choice keeper who will most likely be getting number 1 shirt next season

You said we had scared all the players off!

They stumbled to 5th place and they got turned over at home by shite like Fleetwood and Crewe along the way.

It wouldn't have taken the last bloke much to build on his positive first season in charge, but he signed a multitude of crap and the club ended up spunking its money on their wages.

This club has failed Adkins miserably.

I'd taking stumbling to 5th place this year with a shot at the play offs. But instead we're stumbling to a mid table finish, with what looks like somehow a weaker squad!

Yeah the club screwed Adkins by selling Murphy, but they gave him funds to bring in sharp, Edgar, Hammond, woolford. We probably just needed 4 or 5 players to turn last seasons 5th into better. Now who's fault is that?

Unfortunate as it may be with Murphy wanting to leave he's been allowed to bring in half a team I.e. 6 players, who all came with experience (and little to no resale value for the perms) from the leagues above no doubt with high wage contributions. One we paid a fee of probably between 300-500k.

At this level that's being backed.

Subsequently taking the team to 12th from 5th is a very poor effort.

On the Warnock comparison, and I'm by no means a Warnock apologist, he was operating at a higher level and aside from the season we did go up when he was allowed to get Ifill and later Akonbiyi and Horsfield (though this was an error by Robinson) his acquisitions to that point were pretty much self funded. He was also operating at what you could say was at least close to our level. League One isn't, though it's fast becoming that.

We still need to rebuild the team whoever is in charge next season. With so many players out contract the lucky manager will have the luxury of starting from scratch. The only advantage Adkins has is that he might have little more insight into the club than a newcomer. . . . . But I won't cry if he goes at the end of season.

No, he won't, whoever it is. We don't do 'rebuilding', KM doesn't understand what it is and the Saudi contingent don't understand anything. It will be a patch job. Because we're still paying the wages of Coutts, Brayford, Basham (which combined is probably close to the entire first team wage bill for some clubs in this league).
The only way we're going to sort it out is if we can get rid of Coutts, sell Brayford for around £1m, get rid of the hangers on like McNulty and Scougall, and raise some funds to buy new players by selling Che.
And if we go to that extent, it is likely to take two seasons to get the rebuilding right. Adkins doesn't have two seasons.

I agree. But some pride would have been good. We would have had that. What's wrong with Adkins? He seems totally in ept at motivation - his players or me.

They weren't pulling up any trees for the last bloke either, they stumbled to 5th place, and their bang average league performances were masked by cup runs. I don't rate Clough but even I can't blame him entirely for their shitty attitude.
They don't deserve to playing football at any professional level.

True
Just where is the pride? I am proud to support Sheffield united even here in Bristol where everyone takes the piss (even the Rover's supporters). We haven't really had true pride since Colin IMO.

I'm with you there, it's been lacking for too many years now. This club used to have the ability to make people want to give their all for the cause, and not just home-grown players and managers either. The place had a certain allure to it that's hard to describe. We made Blades out of people who had no prior connection to the club.

All we have now are strangers passing through.

My 3 sons and 6 grandkids have never lived in Sheffield. They live a stone's throw from The valley but guess who they support and follow whenever and wherever they are in London? UTB
