Like many I'm split / concerned about backing Adkins in light of some bewildering performances & judgement.

But if he was sacked how would we cope in practical terms? I don't think it's as straightforward.

It's unlikely that we'd have an immediate replacement ready to assume the reins, or at least not a manager of any quality. Apart from Chris Wilder, I haven't any alternative and realistic targets identified.

Without Adkins, who would decide the fate of the out of contract players and those returning from loan? Should we get rid of them all or could Adkins' judgement be flawed when it comes to certain individuals?

How would disrupt our summer transfer plans? Adkins will surely have drawn up his targets in readiness for another league one campaign? Sacking him now would impact our ability to conclude deals early. And how much would our kitty be reduced by having to pay off Adkins and his staff?

I'm not saying the above are reasons to stick with him given both results, tactics and performances. But there are pros and cons of pulling the trigger.

IF we did sack Adkins now, or at the end of this season, we'd get ourselves a very poor reputation (if we haven't already) and NO decent manager would touch us with a barge pole.

Adkins HAS to be given another season to bring HIS own players and format a team, rather than working with the poor shower that he's got at the moment.

Whether the Board back him or not, we'll be able to judge then.

I believe some players have already agreed to join us (I believe recommended by Turnbull and Adkins is happy to sign them) this Summer and this could create problems for the new manager if we sack Adkins. Before you ask, I don't know who the new players are

We don't need Adkins to decide the fate of our out of contract players. That's a given ( or should be), whoever is in charge. I'm in 2 minds about Adkins, yes he inherited a load of shit, he could have been backed a little more, ie regarding transfer money. But, I expected more than what we are getting, regarding recruitment so far, and the style, team selections and substitutions, leaves a lot to be desired.

What we would lose in terms of transfer budget now would be nothing compared to what we would lose by being a league one/two outfit for another four years as a result of increasing on what is already a piss poor 80% garbage signing record in probably the most "have to get right" transfer windows in many a year in the upcoming summer.

The remit now for any manager coming in at BDTBL, whilst we're still in L1.

Promotion or you're out.
If there's no hope of Top Two by Easter, you're gone!!

That's how it's becoming, if it hasn't begun already.
Amongst a section of supporters, maybe on the Board Of Directors too?

Then when we do get out of L1, it'll be exactly the same in the Championship.

True. First year we'll be happy with consolidation, after that we'll be expected to challenge for the playoffs. Coz we're massive.

We can't cope anyway with or without Adkins.

The club have barely backed Adkins much at all and he is sat waiting for half the squad to leave in the summer.

A new manager would have exactly the same problems Adkins is having.

I didn't realise we had Alex Ferguson as manager. This thread reminds me of when Rodney Trotter offered his resignation "as a token gesture" because he was "too valuable to the company" to get sacked. He got replaced by the work experience kid.

"Four years"........yawn!

Change the record please, as you are in danger of really wearing this out.

Contracts do need to run out, it is a vital part of their structure. If the contract lengths aren't quite 4 years themselves, it'll take it up to a minimum of 4 just to clear up Adkins' mess and build back up again.

Really, and how long would you give somebody to clear up the mess left by the last incumbant? Or does your memory only stretch as far back as your agenda?

Now let's assume it was to take 4 years to clear up this supposed "mess" that Adkins has left. Would you give the next manager that long? Nope, you'll be stomping your feet after a month.

Adkins inherited a crock of shit. It remains, by and large, a crock of shit after 80% of the season.

Warnock inherited a different crock of shit 6 games ago and has got 16 out of a possible 18.

What are Adkins' wonderful attributes that his supporters admire? I am buggered if I can spot them.

It also took Warnock 7 years to get United promoted having inherited a crock of shit. But even he didn't have a 43-man band of utter garbage to contend with. And nor would he have been able to steer this lot to promotion in the space of a 9 month tenure.

A work experience kid would be the only person we could if Adkins went.

The so called 43 man squad finished in 5th place last season, so shouldn't have taken too much tweaking to at least achieve the same this season.

Adkins has failed miserably.

Your right, unfortunately that's the precedent the board have set with the previous sackings of Wilson and Clough. Personally I think we would have been up or close to being up if we had kept either of them.

The flip side to this is now they will feel compelled to stick with Adkins, even though he is the worst performing manager we've had for an entire season for as long as I can remember. He has gotten away with a lot due to the fans apathy towards the players and board, but he has really been shocking this season, truly shocking. And to make matters worse he's agony to listen to.

The board have created their own tough situation, had they not been hasty with Clough, Wilson or even Blackwell we wouldn't be where we are now.

It's probably just best that we stick with Adkins for another year, you'd think he'd have enough to stop us getting relegated next year, so we can just consolidate and look forward to mid table. Whilst gaints such as Coventry, Barnsley, millwall, Bolton, charlton and MK Dons fight it out for promotion.

Cutting through the crap , shit , spin or whatever , Adkins performance has been abysmal . The size of squad , unrest , demotivated players are all a excuse which seems to be taken as a valid reason , with the old adage that Adkins is not a magician or miracle worker .

It's going to take a very brave board to stick with Adkins IMO. The bloke is lucky that we are a so called trigger happy sack the manager type of club.

Hope the guy does turn us around , but he ain't filling us with a boat load of confidence . Oh and the board are tight bastards , don't know what they are doing , and never spend any dosh .

It's again McCabes fault not Adkins.

Let's get real . Adkins owes McCabe big style if he keeps his job , but he is going about it like he couldn't care a fuck , give me my compo and sack me.

UTB

You are as much a one trick Pony as Barney. Warnock is God, Warnock did this, Warnock did that. Warnock is at a different club that doesn't have 10% the problems we have. Apparently however only Bladey, Blade Warnock can save us.

Some clubs have celebrity fans, we just have comedy ones like you.

A one trick pony that has been proven to be spot on in pretty much everything he's said relating to Adkins so far.

Oh, and the truth is boastful, not me.

They stumbled to 5th place and they got turned over at home by shite like Fleetwood and Crewe along the way.

It wouldn't have taken the last bloke much to build on his positive first season in charge, but he signed a multitude of crap and the club ended up spunking its money on their wages.

This club has failed Adkins miserably.

We finished 5th last season. A progression of 3 places, but a massive underachievement of 20 points. A poor manager in the end, deservedly sacked.

Adkins was given the money to pay £500k for one player and ludicrous wages for 4 others. As predicted by the majority of the fan base at the end of last season ("4 players and we'll be an automatic side" remember that?) this money, if spent it well, and on the right players, would have meant we would be nowhere near where we are now, and, would more than likely have seen a little if not a lot of progression on 5th place. It wasn't, it was spent horrifically and we are now 12th, which if you didn't already know, is a backward movement of 7 positions.

Now tell me how Adkins has been failed, please.

Let's have it right, you objected and continue to object to the signing of this current teams top goalscorer. Which means that anything else you say about the current manager should be taken with a truckload of salt.

How many clubs that have been promoted from this division have needed to spend £500k or over to get them their goals?

That is a fact I'd absolutely love to know.
