Ah, I didn't know that.In a 'behind closed doors' friendly a few weeks ago, our U17's beat them 3-0 at St George's Park. This was played at the women's request as part of their WC preparations.
Given that the U17s weren't completely pedal to the floor then you'd assume the first team would thrash them. I accept some on here would dispute that if Coutts was playing....
Ah, I didn't know that.
I genuinely wondered what kind of level they were at. I'm sure the women didn't go 100% so close to such an important tournament but 3-0 to our under 17s pretty much confirms they probably wouldn't cut it in league 2
In the words of Samuel Johnson:Women's football is like TwentyTwenty cricket. Mildly interesting, but no substitute for the real thing.
Goalkeepers though, 3rd division of the sunday imperial league.
Serena Williams is good example actually, she relies on her power. She's got technique and skill but let's be fair she's ahead of all the rest because she's a physical anomaly.Yes we would, but that shouldn't be a indication of where the women's game is currently. It would be like putting up Serena Willilams up against any man in the top 200. Yes she would lose, mainly due to the additional physical power and natural athleticism of her male opponent, however the women's game has it's own merits which should be celebrated and enjoyed in it's own right.
Jodie Taylor's opening goal the other night v Canada was a real cracker. Great control and finish. But this tournament has really caught my imagination, I've actually enjoyed a few of the games.
Size, power and strength is a huge part of the men's game, even just shielding the ball or riding challenges requires some of those skills.Serena Williams is good example actually, she relies on her power. I follow MMA(mixed martial arts) and there's a woman competing in the ufc that is that good fans are constantly asking how'd she match up against a man which is crazy.
If women are in a sport where size, power and strength is a huge advantage then they are never going to be on the same level, but in football those three things- while being a massive bonus- aren't essential. So I don't really understand why some of these women can't reach the standards of their make counterparts. Murphy wouldn't beat half of the English lasses in a arm wrestle, but as for footballing technique none come close.
I'm only playing devils advocate, but it's all relative. They'd be shielding the ball and riding challenges from other women.Size, power and strength is a huge part of the men's game, even just shielding the ball or riding challenges requires some of those skills.

Sorry I was on about playing against men.I'm only playing devils advocate, but it's all relative. They'd be shielding the ball and riding challenges from other women.
Agree but Canada were rolling all over the place. Did you see Buchanan try to take out one of our players and end up on her arse, trying to make out she'd been fouled? Never seen it before to that extent in the women's game. They must have won ten decisions in that game that weren't even fouls.I don't normally enjoy watching women's football but I have enjoyed the latter stages of this tournament. When you think how long men have been playing football to how long the women's game has been in existence then obviously standards cannot be compared.
There is also the difference in height and weight between men and women, however I do feel that the women's game , if it continues to progress, which I think it will, will certainly improve over the next few years.
The refreshing thing about the women's game tho is the lack of diving and rolling about when tackled. The men's game could certainly take note of that.
