Seems to be the start of the managerial merry go round in the Prem.

With 2 semi finals reached in 2014, including the eye-catching wins over West Ham and Southampton, Nigel's name could be in the frame for a step up. Hull City could be a possible if Bruce moves on.

Agree?
Consequences?

Mr Clough has much chance of moving to a premiership club , as we have of winning league 1. However i have a gut feeling that if a club came in for him , from whatever league , the board would not hesitate to let him go.

There is no way the club is going to sack Mr Clough , but he is not helping himself with dividing the fans with his bizarre team selections , managerial style , and am quite sure he may well be dividing the board.

This coming from a very pro Mr Clough supporter.

I was going to come on and write a smart arse answer just saying NO,
But the more I think about it the more I think it could happen.
Warnock got plucked out of nowhere to go to palace and while Karl Robinson gets touted for high profile clubs then why not Clough too?
While I can't think of a suitable replacement if he was to go, I'm finding my will to keep him steadily declining every week- and last season he was my hero!

If Alan Irvine can get the WBA job ( although just been put on gardening league) , i suppose there is hope for Mr Clough.

Karl Robinson gets touted for every job , but never is successful. Perhaps Mr Clough will fall in to that category . Also clubs look at what baggage the manager beings , and in Mr Clough , it is Mr Garner and Mr Clough brother , which does seem ,not to be a winning formula.

Karl Robinson does get mentioned for most other managers jobs , but seems to bottle it when given the chance to
manage a bigger club ( us twice ) I think , seems to like big fish in a small pond mentality.

To be fair to Robinson he wanted (still does) our job. His chairman blocked it at the last minute when we took Weir.

If we were oodles clear at the top of the League, a baby maybe, but his penchant for all that is Cup would bring most Premier League Chairmen out in a cold sweat.

I think the current round of sackings make the appointment of any manager who hasn't some pedigree at the top level unlikely. Premier managers are a different breed. This is constantly proved when good managers at lower levels are found out in the PL - Warnock, Pearson, Irvine etc.

Some such as Sean Dyche perform miracles for a short while until they inevitably become relegation fodder. Likewise, Mark Hughes is exceptional and has a decent pedigree, but Pulis left him a very strong infrastructure.

NC has every chance of getting a solid position in the Championship because, like us, some teams will think they've landed a 'name'.

I think it could be a possibility. Taking in to account the results we've had against premiership opposition within the past year. As you say WB we have reached 2 semi finals in one year which for any manager is brilliant going. Fair enough we haven't been playing so well in the league however, we are still in 6th place and have come on a great deal from where we was when nige first came in. Maybe nige's management style is better suited against better opposition? I feel we should let him see his contract out and see where he gets us. Clough has the makings of a brilliant manager only if he stops being a stubborn two hat with his team selections and tactics.

Nigel Clough is unique in so far as he is committed to developing and establishing a club in the long term. I cannot think of any current Premiership club that will allow him the time. Their patience will wear thin.

Premiership clubs will continue to employ those individuals that will promise (but not always deliver) short term goals be it the title, top four, qualification into Europe or mid table security.

At the end of the season (was it 2009) when our youngsters reached the Youth Cup final I recall posting on the final throes of BBC 606 website stating that after following the Blades for over 50 years I was quite willing to remain patient if a manager was appointed that would develop our youth policy further so that we were establishing a long term strategy for the club.

Wilson and Weir came and went. I will remain patient with current incumbent and I predict he will manage in the Premiership and that will be with us.

Moyes (at Everton), Ferguson, Wenger were all afforded the time. We've tried the alternative and look where we are.

I am positive that getting out of this league is the biggest hurdle.

What if the Premier League title was decided in a calendar year?

While I appreciate the benifits of building long term the lowest level we can do that in is the Championship, we can't do that in League one as we will sell our best players at the end of each season (Quinn, MacDonald, Maguire) thus meaning one step forward two steps back every year (Murphy will go next summer and then probably Reed the summer after that)

In hindsight we needed a short term short sharp fix when Weir went to get us promoted, a Grayson or Warnock type, Clough would probably have been a great choice further down the line if wanted somone to stabalise us and build for the future in Mid Table Championship much as has happend at Derby ready to hand on to someone else to make the next step up.

Can Clough win a promotion with us? I have grave doubts, this is looking like a wasted two to three years to me.

Don't be suprised if they're gone earlier than what you think mate, especially Murphy as he's been in the shop window more.

Can we look at things sensibly and outside the SUFC bubble? Whether you like him (as I do) or you don't there isn't the slightest chance that Nigel Clough would be on any short list of any Premiership Club.

He isn't pulling any trees up outside cup competitions and look at our league position, it hardly makes me quake in my boots that he may be offski. What is a more realistic possiblility is the knock on effect that the Premiership merry go round may have. Say someone takes a manager out of the Championship then that may be an issue. But really? Is this the sort of thing that would keep you up at night? If he left I think it would be sad for our longer term development (which I think Clough is doing well) but so far as promotion this season? Lets be honest even his biggest fans are less than impressed by most performances this season. No matter who you blame overall Clough has to take some responsibility for our league position. In the same way Wilson and that did before him.

I don't like the way that football works and that Managers get hung out to dry but these are the facts, they do. On that basis monkeys will fly out of my arse before Clough leaves us for a Premiership position.

Has someone been sniffing bostik? There is more chance of me having a threesome with Pixie Lott and Katy Perry than a Premier League club board saying "Oh Clough, yes, plays for draws at home to footballing might Walsall, puts his only striker capable ,of scoring on the bench and signs cast offs from Blackpool/Derby, lets get him in" FFs
