Felt slightly conned a few days before the game as I bought a ticket after the NC game, so I extended a work trip for a few days to take in the MKD game. Spirits rose with the signing of Baxter and was confident of a victory.
Always like to get in to the stadium by about 2.30 to see the warm up and how players work and to be honest I have never seen such poor shooting in a warm up, no wonder we never score in a match.
Not recognising half of the players it would have been nice to have put the teams up on the screen..why don't we do that?
Anyhow on to the game briefly;
We started well and dominated play, might even have scored if the ref hadn't decided to pull back play in a delayed fashion following a foul, when we advanced with the ball.
After about 25 minutes and to the break MKD dominated. Harry got skinned a couple of times and McMahon was lucky to stay on the pitch. 2nd half was all us but never really looked like scoring, except for Bandy's miss, and then Doyle gave away a pointless free kick and the rest is history.
Points about the game in general and I don't like criticising players but Flynn, Murphy & Taylor are all weak and don't seem to offer very much, when they are not beating their man, but even so if tey did there is no one in the box anyway.
Our set pieces were terrible, I can't remember 1 that beat the 1st man. I thought McMahon was a dead ball specialist?
Collins was far superior to Harry. Hill is an excellent defender, closes his man down very quickly. He has to because he knows that he will be beaten for pace.
We didn't deserve to lose.
Without overlapping fullbacks this system is doomed to failure as Flynn & Murphy won't beat a man on their own. Change the system or the personell.
Not a great experience capped off by booking the wrong train time back to London. I was on European tme and booked the 6.27 rather than the 5.27 grrrrrr.
