Cooper

First real mistake from Cooper. He didnt need to make a play for the ball as their player wasnt really driving straight for goal. Cooper made it easy for him. He would have been better to have advanced towards him and remained a large obstacle (easy to say in hindsight) as that would have forced their striker even further wide. Definitely not a red card.
He almost made up for it as he was close to getting a hand to the penalty.
Other than this, he has performed extremely well and looks to instil confidence in the defence. I always feel confident that he is going to make a save.
In my opinion, he is a bargain at the reported 2 Million quid.

Think we are quite fortunate to have him for the derby match. I don't think he really got anywhere near the ball when committing the foul for the pen, that could easily have been a red card.
I’m not sure it does anymore does it? Thought the rule had changed on that. I might be wrong though.

I actually didn’t think their red card was fair. To me it looked like their two wingbacks were covering O’hares run so it wasn’t ’last man’

He will show his mettle in how he responds- remember that was Henderson's great trait was after a mistake he would then go on to play really well, usually after a bit of stick off Wilder. Fingers crossed it's the same for Cooper!

Agree - a very harsh red.

Agree, did look harsh but there didn't appear to be many City players putting up a strong complaint...

The defender was certainly the last man but I reckon O’Hare had to bend his run and collect the ball before actually having a goalscoring opportunity, and the full back would probably have got back.

But we’re asking a ref to make all those judgements from pitch level in an instant. Incredibly hard to do.

For it to be a red he would have to be denying a goal scoring opportunity without any attempt at playing the ball. This is why Wes got a red against Burnley, but Coops didn't yesterday.
I could be wrong, but wasn't "double jeopardy" abolished? So if the "denying a clear goalscoring opportunity" results in a pen, it's only a yellow; whilst if it occurs outside the box, it's a red.

Hence Foderingham off and Cooper not.

Yeah this is my understanding. If it's a penalty it's rare that the player also gets a red.

Why are people on here saying he made a mistake for the pen? He's our last man and has to do what's needed to stop the attacker. Maybe they would have made the perfect challenge if being in his position.
7 goals conceded and the know all's are out in force.
Because the attacker wasn't definitely destined to score. Making himself big and forcing him wide could have been enough, with defenders arriving.
I don't think people are being critical, it's a snap decision which he kind of had to make.

I looked up the rules. If it's in the area and the ref judges the player attempted to.play the ball, it's yellow. It's only if the ref thinks no attempt to play the ball is made isbit a red when it's in the area.

Almost by definition, a goalie challenging a player through on goal is going to try to play the ball. Why would be concede a pen and get a red card by playing the man. He'd be better off letting him have the shot.

And he seemed to be thick as shit and, apart from the red, biased to boot. It was all about him - haven’t seen a worse ref in a long time

Spot on been keeping tabs on him since 2019. He will prove to be in the circle of Tracy and Kelly watch his space
Agree 100%. It might be a bit early with this, but has has all the hallmarks of a true great.Calm, confident, with excellent distribution skills. I’ve yet to see him unfazed by anything.

Great communication between him and the matching defense. They are a perfect match for each other. I was trying to think of a weakness, and the only possibility I came up with? What would he be like behind a poorer defence?
Then I remembered where he came from! 😉

I dunno why all this criticism -Cooper made the decision to go because he believed he’d get something on the ball first - which happens this time he got it wrong

Best GK we’ve had in a long, long time.

Running out of words to describe how good he is.

He's ridiculously calm, makes the right decision every time, total command of his area, holds onto crosses, distributes it accurately and ambitiously and his positioning makes him look untroubled even when stopping really well placed shots.

I just can't believe we got him so cheaply.

MOTM tonight.
