I was assuming that Sharp and McG had signed one-year extensions, which made sense under the circumstances, but both have two more years. Given our financial limitations it feels a bit reckless. Both have done great for us but neither is on the up or getting any younger.

Sometimes older players agree to sign for a lower wage per week but with a longer term.

Its likely these new contracts will be the last for the two you mention. A one year deal might have ended up costing us not much less than the two year deals.

Both have proved this season they still have a lot to offer and that's unlikely to change next season. If by the end of next season they are no longer around the first team squad I don't think anyone can begrudge either of them having one year as bit part players (similar to ravel Morrison or jack Rodwell this season).

Also with wilder in charge I doubt we've been too reckless with these deals.

Some players don't rely on pace and are therefore more vulnerable to becoming obdolete at an earlier age.

Some players are like fine wine and get getter with age. Billy and Didzy have probably never been better players than they are now. Both Billy and Didzy rely on other parts of the game rather than just pace. They will still be good players in 2 years time so no risk to SUFC in my view.
