Leaving aside Irish football, but generously including Scottish first team games, Sammon's goal scoring record is 35 in 227 games, that's 1 every 6 games.

Nothing against the lad but why did we sign him?

I presume he was signed as a foil for Billy Sharp but he's not providing many knock-ons or even distracting the opposition defence.

Signed on loan for the season and another wage wasted.

Doesn't win headers in general play or from set-pieces. Critically, does not have pace.

He started well. I just can't understand the fact that he looks like a brick shit house but Scougall could probably beat him in the air

It's a mystery for me why he doesn't win headers. He's a big lad but, well I think he won one all game, brought a few cheers form the crowd!

Connor Gudgeon maybe, fisherman will know why!

Certainly occupies defenders. Has influenced a number of games for us, by occupying the opposition so they can't settle on the ball.

A couple of times (in a row?) opposition fans had him as our best player. Bradford was one I think.

It's Edwards' line about him not winning headers isn't it? He banged on and on and on about it for the Fleetwood game.

He often gets something on the ball, looks to control and play it rather than flick it on.

This "doesn't win headers" stuff is like Hammond not being a match winning playmaker.

That said I thought he had an average attacking game on Satdi, but the ball stuck up front occasionally. This tends not to happen when he's not on the pitch and we end up defending almost permanently.

Didn't Billy score 6 in 6 with Sammon around?

Simplistic to write him off.

Connor Minnow more like
Thought he was sound at Peterbrough and reasonable in a few other games.
After looking a decent strike partner with Billy he now looks insipid.

Incredibly, it's worse than Porter's record. I always said we wouldn't get promotion whilst ever Porter was our centre forward. Having seen Sammon now after an early flourish, I have to say the same thing.

Maybe Dom Calvert Lewin will develop but if he's stuck on the bench at L2 level, it suggests he's not ready.

I think Lee Turnbull has to find a rough diamond for us. We clearly don't have money to buy the requisite centre forward.

In the short term Adkins is concentrating on us tightening up at the back. I'd be happy with a series of 1-0s until we sort the whole mess out.

Unusually on this one Fatty I can't agree with you in respect of headers. I particularly watched him on Saturday and I think he won one, contrasting with Brayford who won lots. I'm not particularly on about in play headers (probably wrong term) but headers when the ball is hoofed up to him from the keeper. I'm sure he brings other things you suggest to the game, (obviously I won't know as other than the obvious I don't see football subtleties). Just saying. I thought Hammond was fine by the way.

Presumably this is plan "X, Y or Z" after trying to out score sides failed so miserably, 20+ games in suppose better late than never.

The Beard has more spring in his step than Zebedee.

Attacking-wise Sammon might have had his best game against Newcastle pre-season.

That game he controlled the ball with varying parts of his anatomy and it either stuck bizarrely, or he laid it on to himself in some dangerous area. Looked great.

He might flick on occasionally, but I don't think that's what he's in the team for.

Fwiw I'm not 100% confident in this assessment, but somehow we're often effective when he's around. Possibly.

Interesting Fatty, good to have a different view.

Currently he looks like a player who won a church raffle to be a professional footballer for a season...

...who on earth was the Derby manager when they paid £1million for him? ;)

Someone who signed a rightback for 2 million when we needed a genuine spine in the team of 3/4 players?

Yesterday, he was woeful - I thought he really looked good against Peterborough early in the season but has gone backward at an alarming rate
To me, he offers nothing !
Very rarely wins a header, for a well built guy he doesn't dominate and doesn't have a presence - even Collins would be able to deal with his attacking threat !

No better than Higdon or Porter we may as well recall Sparky and send Sammon back to Derby

The same one who wanted to sign Shaun Barker in the summer!

He's doing OK at Portsmouth but I don't think Sparky will be coming back personally, based on a) that tweet his dad allegedly posted and deleted saying it was at least a season long loan, and b) when he got the hat trick and that mate of his tweeted to the official @SUFC_Tweets telling United to fuck off. Can't believe Sparky won't have been aware of that, and I bet it sums up his own view of us now.
