I’m not sure that a manager would choose to leave themselves short in any position. Basham is injured along with RND who could play LCB and Holgate is only on loan. None of the academy CB’s look near to stepping up. Do you not think we’ll replace these players?

I think we do, yes, but we need to look to get younger across the back line. Egan/Robinson will be 32/31 a couple of months into the season, we need to be looking to longer term replacements for those as well. Ideally I'd like us to bring in 2-3 of players who could be starting for us in 25/26 and beyond - don't necessarily need to be ready to start now, as they'd be cover. Could be from the lower leagues, could be from overseas, could be someone who's been in the set up of a PL team but isn't in their immediate plans and looking for a new challenge or more immediate first team football. Any of those would show more joined up long term thinking than bringing in Coady, which for me is just kicking the can down the road a season and being pretty inefficient with (likely scarce) resources at the same time

Seems like a direct choice between retaining Egan or attempting to sign Coady if we are insisting on keeping 5atb.

Keep Egan, spend the additional money elsewhere

Egan might be miles off the player he was and Holgate will have gone. If Anel leaves we might need 2 new ones to start.

Egan might not be the player he was, true, but I'd be very surprised if he couldn't still do a job at Championship level, it is not as if he was ever reliant on speed or anything that would drop off with age. As stated earlier I'd have no issues starting Robbo/Egan/Trusty as the three next season

I'd rather a fuller shake up.and moving a CB up to midfield but if not, 3 CBs who can defend will be fine

I’d be surprised if CW is aiming to start Egan or a left footer at RCB.

Rumours of him off to stoke, I think he’s a perfect fit for us this coming season, we need some experience in there because we’ve been like a junior football team at times.

Do we really think Egan after best part of a year out will just hit the ground running, has RND got more than 10 games a season in him, he’s not managed that yet, can Tristy compete at this level, he certainly can’t in the prem, Anel is gone, certainly his head has. Robbo should be ok but will get suspended at some point

If he moves on again so soon he'll start getting the journeyman tag.. Wolves, Everton, Leicester, Stoke.. 4 clubs in 4 years.... the early warning signs of a player who has peaked and is now in regression.

It's a no from me.

Off to Stoke?! Are they pushing the boat out again

If Egan stays I can't see us after him and I'd expect Egan still to go a job next season. Wouldn't mind Souttar from Leicester over Coady

I put a Leicester match on for about two minutes the other week, commentators were raving about Coady's performance.

Seems unlikely for us though. Fee, wages, age.

If Egan is to be offered a new deal then I can't see us going for Coast. I'd personally rather have Souttar on loan from Leicester.
Got linked with Souttar in January didn't we?

So basically it’s between us and Stoke.

We know how this goes.

They’ll be signing Arblaster soon.

All “could” be in the chase.

A purely speculative piece, probably no substance to it at all.

He’s a really good player who would be great for us, but I can think of better ways of spending £50k a week.

Just ask them to try driving to Stoke first. It will soon put them off!

Would need someone really quick around him at the back because he makes Egan look like Usain Bolt.

Like I said in previous post. If joins new club next season it will be 4 clubs in 4 years.

Becoming a journeyman on a downward spiral.

Avoid at all cost.
