I guess this is going over old ground, but watching the Wolves game on Sky yesterday I was impressed by Coady's performance in midfield. Was not signing him Clough's biggest mistake, the midfield has looked weak since he left us?

yes he played well but the stand out performer for me was KMac.
(how fucking annoying eh?)

without doubt.

A proper midfielder, schooled in the right way where the emphasis is "receive the ball, head up AND LOOK FORWARD"

UTB

I agree about KMac but in the end I think we didn't have much choice but to sell him as he made it clear he wanted to go. With Coast, I think he would have joined us if we had put a bid in.

I saw the highlights of the Brighton vs Reading game. Murphy scored and Blackman was the man of the match. Depressing times.

Coady was keen to sign for us, he said as much, regardless of what you say Pete, he showed an interest in coming to the club when released, and we dallied, some bullshit of Liverpool wanting a million for him, and we all backed off..

Clough possibly wanted to keep a space for an old boy, sadly just what Adkins seems to be doing now...

It was out of Cloughs hands ,of course he wanted him.

This may be correct but it doesn't excuse who he in got instead two crocks and a bloke who has been better at centre back than midfield.

And it's equally worrying that Adkins has not sorted it either, Hammond looks no better than Coutts or Basham

But we Signed James Wallace instead...
Actually Crewe away last season Wallace and Doyle totally dominated the midfield ,with Scougall and Murphy creating a lot of problems for them too. Baxter had an off day up front otherwise we would have won by a more and Crewe were a lot stronger then.

That's true..

Bloody shame he's never fit really innit?

Yes but wait till Brayford is back for the tilt at getting into the play offs.

The more people keep lauding Brayford I think the expectation will weigh on him.

There was this player we signed in January which had Phipps tub thumping and the fans all saying we were Certs to go up etc ... What was his name ???

He said the exact opposite.

Remember when some utter mongs on here were saying neither of them were that good and that we could do better?

How's that coming along then?

As I've said on another Coady thread, the man himself did not want to sign for a league one club on a perms any basis.

Not just that, but I'm sure Phipps also said that Liverpool were still holding out for decent money while Basham was available on a free. So we went for him rather than, weirdly, waiting around like we usually do.

I'll own up to being one of those that wasn't very impressed by Coady. But ultimately not signing Coady (which may not have been easy) was a small mistake. The twenty odd players Clough signed instead is the huge one. We've got a lot of midfield players and I don't have much hope in them.

Coady usually stood out for us, as did Kyle Bartley and Matt Phillips. Good use of the loan market. There's shed-loads of players out there not up to their clubs' current level, but more than good enough for a level below (Forestieri at the pigs).

While we chase no-marks like Hammond and make endless excuses, Adam Armstrong (on loan from Newcastle and currently playing for Coventry) scored his 9th and 10th goals on Saturday.

True, that's the bigger problem. At least if we had signed Coady however we'd have one midfielder that is fit to wear the shirt
