Good player for sure but he isn't irreplaceable, I for one would like for us to go back to Walsall now and raid them for James Baxendale. He would be my ideal replacement.

I think more likely (and slightly depressingly) the money is already spent. It's not like we run at a profit.

If it's true that "we made a big effort to keep Kevin"' there is absolutely no excuse for not spending the full £750k on improving the team.
Personally, I was never fully convinced by the idea of McDonald suddenly being converted into a deep-lying striker when he's played in central midfield all his career.
My idea of a "number 10" would be someone like Peter Beardsley. A striker who comes deep to recieve the ball but still gets his fair share of goals.
McDonald's departure gives Weir and United the opportunity to buy a specialist for this vital role rather than shoe-horning a midfielder into an unnatural position.
This is the first big test of the new Winter/Weir regime. If they fail to reinvest and reinvest well all the optimism created over the Summer will quickly evaporate along with the crowds and any hope of promotion.

Similarly, it's a possible opportunity to turn a team that wasn't really promotion contenders into possible promotion contenders. Unfortunately, as time passes and memory fades, McDonald's failure to turn up for the whole of last season will turn into a season of Gascoignesque performances.

KM one goal all last season and very few assists why are fans getting so upset FFS ? As long as the fee is invested in the team wisely KM will be soon forgotten.

You're right in what you're saying but the new style of play and formation made him look 10 times better than last season.

And sheffielder - if McCabe comes out and says, he's our best player so we offered him £10k a week when lets say the others are earning £4k do you think that's good for the squad? Is that gonna increase squad morale?

I wasn't questioning KM's footballing ability he has bags of talent, I do question his attitude though, he had a habit of going missing in games and was shit defensively, really a bit of a luxury player. Sadly SUFC are in no position to be able to afford the luxury players just now. KMc has a over inflated opinion of himself but very little heart or desire to be a top player, he reminds me a lot of Martin Smith who we had years back plenty of talent but always looking to screw the club for higher wages (why the fook would anyone want to move to Huddersfield other than for the cash), he never stayed anywhere too long and never made a top player KM will go the same way by chasing the dollar.

What's not good for morale is we sell our best players to a rival and don't replace him properly. I have never mentioned how much we offered McDonald, however that we have received a significant fee and that money is going to bring in a couple of players who will improve the team. Not replacing him with players needed to benefit the team overall will be bad for team morale as teams to like to win. It doesn't sound like you have much experience of team sports to be fair Matt.

If you read my other posts you will see that I was saying it was probably unwise and undeserved to make McDonald a hefty payrise as a, he's hasn't done anything to deserve one and b, it will go out of our new model. You will have to point out a post where I have said we should come out and tell everyone we have offered McDonald whatever.

Over to you

To be fair fella, we've seen him twice this season. And when it wasn't going our way (The Burton game), he looked exactly the same as last season.

Yes, spot on. Luxury. We are weaker without him, but it's not beyond hope that we could soon be better for it. We probably won't be mind.

Over to you

Well I've played football atleast once a week since u/10s. I'm 30 next so you're probably right. I don't have much experience.

You were insinuating that McCabe/SUFC should've announced publicly how hard they tried to keep him I.e. how much he was offered to stay. My point is that if half the team are on 50% less then that's not good for morale is it?

And no we haven't replaced him. He left the club about 15hours ago.

So Wolves have got McDonald ahead of their impending sale of Sako, and now we need to do the same and get a replacement in. I don't buy Weir's chat that we have plenty of options to fill the role left, but more importantly we as fans need to see that the club aren't simply shrugging their shoulders while pocketing the cash.

If Weir has anything about him, and I think he has, then he's already spent the time since this broke planning for his departure and sourcing replacements.

As for McDonald himself, I can't blame him for going if the wage rise rumoured is anywhere near accurate. But while he is a loss to us based on what we know he is capable of, I think he'll be a dud there. This is a player who time after time disappears in games if he shows up at all. And while we had a system to suit him, he'll need to fit whatever they want him to do. And if that includes tackling then he's fucked.

I am sure you're not talking about me as these are things I haven't critical of the the club for? Try again

Paul Walker interview with KMac today in an Audioboo
Aparently the decision for him was not financial - it's more to do with chances of promotion and ambition (we all know the two go hand in hand though Kev, feller) and after two attempts with us it was time to move.

He knew about the interest from Wolves at the beginning of the Summer (but was pleased to be the fulcrum of the set-up in Weir's team building prior to kick off)

He would be surprised if the Blades were not there or thereabouts in the promotion race at the end of the season (he's more optimistic than most of us lot then - Pinchy aside)

Anyway here is a link to the interview and you can make your own mind up.

Yes Kev, it took you a few days to assess the relative promotion credentials of each team, and it wasn't to see what offer United could come back with.

Utter bollocks fella, you're fooling nobody.

Not motivated by money? Yeah, right.
If he knew about Wolves' interest before the start of the season I wonder if he bothered to tell his manager, who was changing the formation around him as the focal point.
No loyalty in football anymore.

Load of bollocks KMac at least be honest and say the Wolves contract was too good to turn down

Even £900/week extra puts £140k in his back pocket, not bad for someone as good as my Mum.

Good luck to him but we'll not miss him.

Sad thing is we'd no-one at the moment

I've got two lads who work for me season ticket holders at Wolves they tell me they are in serious debt even with the parachute payments.
Most of there best players are moving on with the money going to pay the debts they also have had major ground improvements, signed players on silly money etc same boat as us maybe

He also said that the day before, he'd heard that they were about to put a bid in... not that it was engineered or that he or a representative talked before they were allowed to or anything... he just heard.
