Refreshingly honest or just getting better at lying? Be amazed if he stayed, Wolves can get back to the Premier in 2 years given a fair wind. Our plan is to scrape the play-offs and fluke promotion. Then pretty much be certs to come back down again anyway.

If there really was a release clause, you can bet it wasn't for much more than a bag of quavers.
 

Seems an awfully quiet build up to a big game against one of our expected rivals. Normally we at least sell a player or have a player get sent down the night before a game....

I think Williamson was actually out of contract at the end of the 2011/12 season, so while he was training with us he wasn't actually contracted and wasn't taking a wage. They did offer him a contract but obviously he left.

If the player has a clause that allows him to sign for another club we don't have a choice. Bid unexpected because you would have thought the bid would have come in the close season. Panic buy from Wolves based on one good game shown on TV ?

If we hadn't signed up KMac at the beginning of last season we would have been seen unambitious by most fans.If Kmac insisted on the get out clause could we really risk calling his bluff. Becuase he had a poor season,no one came in for him.

Weir stated at the beginning of the season some players may go so he has not been misled or lied to by the board.

I agree the board has mismanaged the club for years. However on this occasion,from the signing of the new contract last year up to yesterday,I can't really see what they have done wrong.

Don't forget,if KMac is really as happy as he claims,why would he leave unless he is the same as a lot of footballers and his main motivator is money.

If the club don't communicate they get abuse,if they do it means 'they are getting better at lying' They can't win.

Out of curiosity ,Ken,which bit of the statement do you think is lies ?

Go back to when he signed that deal, he was out of contract and there was a lot of noise from the fans about getting that deal done. When the player/agent insists on that clause, when other clubs are interested and have made offered to him, you either agree or lose the player.

The clause should have been like the one Suarez has in his contract that allows him to talk to another club if a valuation is met but Liverpool have to agree to sell.

I understood that the Rooney thing was he doesn't like playing for Moyes. Was it Moyes who sold him to Man U in the first place? If so, that reinforces it.

That's the thing though. He was a free agent all summer and no one came in for him. Noone. If they had he would have gone. There is no evidence to suggest other clubs were actually interested. It did not seem like if he does not have clause X, he would not re-sign to me? He was out of contract for the whole summer and only resigned on verge of the season. I remember the radio interviews and he was openly touting himself out and still no one came for him.

Of course it's easy to say we had no choice and had our hand forced in order to re-sign him (with clauses etc) but this is a player that was on the scrapheap/no one wanted for two straight summers. It did not seem like clubs were falling over themselves to sign him? United at times make daft decisions and leave themselves open to be derailed very easily. If you have a clause in; make sure it is for more than the bag of smarties we will get (£750,000 - does anyone seriously think it will be more than a couple of hundred grand at best - seriously?) and that he can't go to a divisional rival for promotion (at least in theory). It is the same with Higginbotham; insert a clause that if we go up (then funds don't matter so much) he gets an extension but on games played means is bonkers. I suppose we had to give Cresswell, Doyle, Williams etc had to be given 2 or 3 years as teams were queuing up for them?

Deadbat, I usually enjoy your posts but like most of the other posters in this thread you've fallen into the trap of making assumptions then getting angry about them. We have no idea what offers MacDonald had last season nor what discussions lead to the contract he signed.

I've got no idea. All i know is every time we sell a player we didn't want to. The player wanted to leave, they had a clause, blah blah blah. Yet we never use the money to sign anybody else. Odd that.

I kind of agree that we may be better off selling to reinvest. Sell Maguire too, cos he isn't worth what we'd get for him. Ship out Doyle, Williams, Westlake, Porter, Higginarse, McMahon, Ironside, Flynn and use all the money to sign 6 or 7 new players. But we all know the chances of Weir getting the fee for McDonald or anybody else is zero. Lucky if he gets a third of it. Which is odd seeing as we are selling "cos of a clause" and not cos McCabe wants the money for his back pocket.

He did have other offers, from across the city for starters, but not for two years (I'm guessing due his injuries).

We wouldn't put this clause it, its a clause players want not clubs, and the players would set the fee. You option is agree or don't sign them. As I said before could you imagine the fallout if the club had said it wasn't going to resign him?

What is his injury history?

He seems to have played consistently for us. I agree with previous comments that we only re-signed him when nothing better came up. But at that point surely we could have told him to bollocks when it came to clauses?

On a slightly different note. Signing someone for nowt and then getting £750k (if accurate) as a third division club isn't bad. Sadly, I feel that fuck all of any perceived profit will be put back in to the team on a like for like basis. That said, rightly or wrongly, I really don't expect that so won't be full of rage when it doesn't happen.

(When I say consistently, I mean on a regular basis, unlike say, John ebbrell)

Yes ;-)

A group of fans on the Handsworth coach who were talking to the players at the services after the game. Most of the players had photos taken and apologised to fans for what had happened. KMac was reluctant to do this. One young fan asked,'we'll just have to start aain next season,Kev' to which the reply came,' I'm not bothered because I won't be here anyway'. This may not have been true but not what you say to fans had used their saving to watch them put in another hapless performance.

The reason the coaches stopped were due to the horrendous traffic jams on the M5 coming home. On top of this,the air-con on one of the Handsworth coaches had broken(remember how hot it was ?) so for a player to say this to them didn't exactly make them feel better.

Yep, that's my thought too. We aren't good enough with McDonald. Of course, when "the club" pockets the cash, we will have something to worry about.
