As I've said before, it's really difficult to keep hold of players nowadays, especially considering the current economical climate - it was inevitable he was going to leave at some point, it was just when this was going to happen. He could still suprise us all and reject Everton through his love for the Blades, and his wish to aid us to promotion, but lets be honest, he's more than likely to leave. Even if a player loved "their" club a lot, it would take a lot for a player to reject a club playing in a higher division, getting much more inflated wages, the chance of playing in Europe, a higher likeliness of silverware etc. I would have the upmost respect for any player who did reject that to play for their beloved club, even though they'll be playing in a lesser league, with a significant gulf in wages. But lets be realistic - how many people would refuse an offer such as that? Not many is the answer. Football is a business, full of advertising and marketing. Players come and go, and clubs are always looking of ways to increase revenue. The sale of Naughts will add to the income the club will be getting, and will aid Blackwell in trying to re-sculpture the team.

will people open there eyes and look at the facts. loss of parachute payments, two good full backs still at the club and the chance to get 5 mill in the bank. its a no-brainer. its disappointing losing another star. but it makes sense in every possible way.

I agree with you on that one mate. Everyone who is a fan of the club will be bitterly disappointed at Naughts' departure, as he's a fine player with good prospects. I'm sure he'll be a future England full-international as he is such a gifted and talented young player, with a lot of potential still to fulfil.
£5m is quite cheap for a player of his quality, but we'd be silly not to sell him for this. As a lot of people have said, we have a suitable replacement for him in a similar mould to Naughts in Kyle Walker, who is arguably just as good, if not better than Naughton. Walker will probably also leave the club in the next couple of seasons to play in the Premier League, and we'll probably gain £5m+ for his departure too.
£10m for two Academy graduates. Not bad, considering the state the Academy was in a while ago. If the Academy can keep producing players of these standards, and feeding them through to the first team, then I see no harm whatsoever in selling for a fee of £5m.
And if you're sick of reading people's opinions, don't bother looking on a forum. Just a free tip for you, that. Also, if things are as financially precarious as you make out, why all the corporate shit about not having to sell? That's what hurts the most - the way the club constantly lies to us and treats us like fucking idiots.
Sorry, are people forgetting that we supposedly support a football club? As a fan, I don't care about 5 million quid in profit. I don't care about countless fruitless link ups with foreign clubs. I don't care about building a stadium that will end up being half full. I care about the team playing well and winning. Sorry if I can't get excited about profit.

I think there's a big difference between "needing" to sell and doing so that people need to understand.
All clubs sell including the best ....eg Ronaldo at Man Utd.
Every player has a price. To get what's being reported for a player who has not completed a full season is good business for our club.
It would be nice for every club, including ours, to keep their best players but reality says otherwise.
I've not seen the lies you talk off. If players want to leave they should go!
I agree with you, hence why if he is to leave United, I'd want him to go to Everton. Jags has made a lot of progress in quite a relatively short period since leaving us for Everton, and I'm sure Naughts will do the same. Plus, Naughton's much more likely to get regular first-team football at Everton, as they are in need of a right-back such as Naughton, and we're all aware of Moyes' management skills, and his ability to bring the best out of players and get them playing to their full potential.
Whereas if Spurs were to sign Naughts, there'd be three right-backs fighting for a place; Hutton, Corluka and Naughton. And on top of that, Everton are a much better team, with a really good manager.

Again, who has said from inside the club that we have to sell? Manure didn't have to sell Ronaldo, but they did. Inter didn't have to sell Kaka, but they did.
As far as I'm aware, we don't have to sell Kyle, but it looks like we will.

OK. We have a potential ready made replacement in Walker, and if the reported £6m is used on the team, we could possibly find two midfielders, who would be useful at our level.
We're sadly lacking in that area, yet Naughton's boots can be filled. If he goes (remember it's not confirmed yet), then it is sound business-wise. I can't get excited about profit either (unless it's mine coming back from the bookies
), but I also realise that without sound business off the field, we sure as hell can't progress on the field nowadays.Sensiblade

When we didn't go up, it was probably inevitable that Naughton was on his way. Was an exciting player to watch and so sad to see him go, but we've got good options for that position and if the various players we're linked with come off then the money we get from him is paying for 4-5 players in other areas of the pitch where we needed to strengthen. You can lose your best player and end up being stronger overall if the money is used well elsewhere. Whether that's how it'll work out we'll have to wait and see. But lets face it, if a class player wants to double or treble his money and play in the Premiership, there's not a whole lot you can do about it other than get the best deal possible. No point in having a player that resents being denied a move that's good for him.

What if last season was just a one off for Kyle?what if he stayed and had a mare of a season next season? We would have missed out on a great opportunity.
But my main belief is what if Kyle is suited to our style of play, his hometown, his team of supporting and possibly his good connection with the rest of the team?
Take all this away from him and plonk him in a team full of prem stars in a foreign city away from home having probably never experienced anything like it in his life could it be exactly the same as shevchenko at Chelsea? And many others that have experienced this.
At least with jags had got some experience under his belt
so I think the board have weighed up both the pros and the cons!

They told us we did not have to sell any of our players! We need Naughton but can you blame him for wanting to play for a good manager, I blame blackwell! The lad is a fantastic player and is to good for long ball. I just hope we invest the money straight back into the team. Andy Lonergan and Ched Evans should not be out of our price range now!

Everton are waiting to discuss personal terms with the Sheffield United youngster Kyle Naughton after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
The 20 year-old is with United on a pre-season trip to Malta at the moment, so it will be a few days before the signing can be confirmed, but the Blades chairman Terry Robinson said yesterday: “We have accepted a bid for Kyle, that’s correct. The two clubs have been negotiating this last week and we have agreed terms with Everton, but nothing has been agreed with the player.
“We won’t be revealing the amount until any deal is done and our acceptance is conditional on Kyle reaching agreement with them over personal terms. It’s a good deal for the player and Sheffield United. We wouldn’t have agreed to it if it wasn’t a good deal for the club.”
So why are Everton so keen on bringing this youngster to the Premiership?
Naughton joined Sheff Utd as a schoolboy when he was just 8 years-old and has been carefully nurtured by the club ever since. He is a pacy right-back with good positional skills, but is not scared of moving up into attack when he gets the chance.
He is also well known for his ability to pick out his team-mates from long and accurate throw-ins which can change a game, and he has extraordinary passing abilities.
His talent was recognised early on, and he was first involved with the England set-up when he was invited to train with the U15’s in 2004/5.
He made his first appearance for the U21’s just last November in a friendly game against the Czech Republic, playing the last half hour of the match.
He broke into the Blades first team at the beginning of last season, and played nearly every game, wining the club’s Young-Player-of-the-Season award.
He was also named in the PFA Championship Team-of-the-Season.
But the icing on the cake would seem to be the chance to join David Moyes in the Premiership. He had already been linked with Aston Villa and Man Utd, so his talent has not gone unnoticed and Moyes can be trusted to make him into an even better player, and a likely England star of the future.

Got a mate who's an Everton fan. The word around Liverpool is that it is money + Victor Anichebe (a player who we were after last season!)
If that's true then i would be more than happy, he will score shit loads in our league also it would explain a couple of things...
1, Probably the reason a move to Swillsborough never materialised for him.
2, The reason that neither club has announced the fee. Obviously Blackwell would rather us gain something out of this ie. Anichebe so why broadcast that its £5m just so Spurs can come in and match it, as then we'd have to accept that too.
If that is the deal in position, Anichebe could still reject a move to us in which case the deal may be off!
Personally if its £4m + Anichebe then i can understand the sale.

Wigan are now established in the premiership and have just sold their best player.
We'll be a selling club until we get taken over or are a top 6 premiership club. Everyone below that just can't compete.
Spurs had to sell Berbatov & Keane, ok so they got Keane back BUT in my eyes they're a selling club if the price is right.
Portsmouth - Won the FA Cup, now look at them, hardly got a squad of 16.

I guess then poor old ManU must be a selling club too - lost Ronaldo and Tevez. Is nobody safe if the gods have to be sold? I guess this makes Real Madrid the only buying club in the whole wide world.
There is a difference of selling because of debts and people pulling them in,
And not having debts and no need to sell as we are financially sound.
And tevez dosen't count....

1 - We've taken at least £7m from 2 player sales alone in 2009, and I would like to see alot of this pumped into the transfer kitty. There's no point selling these players if we aren't going to use the money to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Or we could buy in McNaughton specially and offer the M & C at only 20p a letter
...With any luck some of the 20p's will be undated and we can plow the profits from that that back into the transfer kitty
PS - There was a notice on the new shirt page on the online store, telling people not to buy squad numbers/names yet as they are subject to change and will not be refunded
You beat me to it! I was just gonna say that Man U must be a selling club also.
It's a shame that Naughton seems to be on the way, but let's face it, a £5 million Right Back is a luxury we can't really afford right now. Especially when we have perfectly capable replacements in Walker / Geary / Bromby.
If we can use most of the money we get from the Naughton deal to either fund new transfers or bigger wages to keep players like Killa then I think it's a decent deal for us.

I wouldn't class Geary as a replacement, I doubt he'll ever play football again with the way his knees (apparently) are.
