It's simple really. You turn up at a few games and watch him play. You then send your trusted chief scout to watch him play. You have a meeting and then decide, 'is he better than what we've got?' or if you're Man Utd, 'is he potentially better than what we've got?' If the answer is yes, you then make your offer. If you think he's THAT good you bid until the other club can't refuse. Every player and club has a price.

Likewise, it could be career over for a few years and then sold on to a league 1 club

Man United wouldn't spend that sort of money on someone for them to be sold on a few years later to such a low standard.

Man United or Arsenal would be two clubs who he would benefit greatly from if I am honest.

But think Villa should be the front runners.

The Breaking News Section at the bottom on sky sports news reporting that Everton have made a £5m bid for Naughts.

Oh well cya later Kyle and thanks and all that, now lets get as many cack players and free transfers as we can. 5 mill can get us a whole second squad of dross easy :(

I think it makes sense to wait until the club says something, speculation is fun, but I reckon Blackwell is not out to waste money. His end of season loan players certainly helped. Given that we are supposed to have signed three players already I wouldn't put too much into this yet.

And if what we hear about Blackwell only agreeing to stay if he didn't need to let Kyle go - then this may be far from a done deal.

Having said that - there must be a price where it would be right to sell him. Any thoughts what that price might be??

At least £7 Million up front with sell on & performance bonuses.
Everton have offered 3.5 + 1.5 in other fees. sod that!

Dunno about the price tag, but as with all the other young ones we've sold, a 50% sell on clause, that should scare people off :D

I hope we can put them off. I'd say we want big 5m straight away with performance clauses and a 50% sell on clause!

That would make them run!

Or......

We could say a swap for jags ;)

Latest one: The Mirror

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is set to gazump Everton in the battle to sign Sheffield United starlet Kyle Naughton.

O'Neill is poised to make his move for the full-back after seeing rival David Moyes have a £5million bid rejected.

The Championship outfit want closer to £7m for the England Under-21 star and O'Neill is willing to match the Blades' valuation.

United chairman Kevin McCabe is determined to cash-in on the 20-year-old defender and is bracing himself for a lucrative approach from Villa this week. Naughton has told sources he prefers a move to Villa Park.

The Blades want to sign Bristol City winger Michael McIndoe in a £600,000 deal.

And this one: The Daily Mail

Kyle Naughton's £5m pricetag is fuelling a spending spree by Sheffield United who are banking on their young right back to balance the books. Officially, he is not for sale.

But Naughton, 20, is regarded as such a guaranteed asset that United are gambling on paying £1.5m for Manchester City striker Ched Evans and another £1m on Watford pair Lee Williamson — already signed — and John-Joe O'Toole.

Aston Villa and Everton are leading the chase for Naughton.

Here's another one:Daily Star

EVERTON manager David Moyes has launched a £5m raid on Tottenham for Scotland defender Alan Hutton.

Moyes fears he may lose Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton to Aston Villa, while Hutton, 24, is surplus to requirements at Spurs.

He has struggled to impress Harry Redknapp and will be sold at almost the £9m he signed for.

Latest......

MARTIN O’Neill has cranked up the pressure on Sheffield United to sell Kyle Naughton.

Aston Villa boss O’Neill will pay the £7million asking price for the right-back – and let him STAY at Bramall Lane for the whole of next season.

A source revealed: “Martin will do whatever it takes to get Kyle to Villa Park.

He rates this kid as a real top talent, a genuine star of the future, and sees him as a young player who can push Villa towards winning trophies.

“Virtually every Premier League team wants to sign him up – but United are desperate to hang on to him.

“They want Kyle to stay and help them launch another promotion campaign.”

Naughton, 20, has enjoyed a spectacular rise since making his Blades debut last season.

Now, after just 40 games for his hometown team, he is an England Under-21 international and Villa, Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs are leading the chase for his signature.

I think the latest one is a bit far fetched, seems they've ran out of tip offs. It all seems to have died down abit now thankgod

I really hope we don't sell him. Not this season anyway. I think if we can hang on to him during this transfer window then his price tag might raise another £2m on to the already set £7m price-tag.

apparently SSN are reporting he's been given permission to talk to Everton..

Will crank it on from work in a sec and have a look.

More on the Everton bit...

Sheffield United have given Everton permission to open talks with Kyle Naughton after accepting an offer for the young defender.

The Blades turned down a reported £3.5million offer from Everton last month, but have now agreed to an undisclosed fee for the 20-year-old full-back, who is currently with the rest of Kevin Blackwell's first-team squad on a pre-season trip to Malta.

The club's international chairman Terry Robinson told Press Association Sport: "We have accepted a bid for Kyle, that's correct. The two clubs have been negotiating this last week and we have agreed terms with Everton, but nothing has been agreed with the player.

"We won't be revealing the amount until any deal is done and our acceptance is conditional on Kyle reaching agreement with them over personal terms. It's a good deal for the player and Sheffield United. We wouldn't have agreed to it if it wasn't a good deal for the club."

Sheffield-born Naughton, 20, who has been at Bramall Lane since he was eight, burst on to the first-team scene at the start of last season and quickly established himself as a regular in Blackwell's side.

He soon attracted the attention of several top flight clubs and won his first England Under-21s call-up - against the Czech Republic in November - after just 11 Blades appearances.

according to the star its £6M

good deal for the blades if its re-invested in the team

It's not a good deal for the club, you pie-faced loon*. It's a good deal in terms of money, but what are we losing in terms of ability?

If the board admit that we're a small-time selling club, instead of painting us to be some ambitious outfit with one eye on the Premier league and European football, maybe I'll get less upset every time we sell one of our prize assets.

Fucking disgraceful, IMO. We might as well get a load of no-hopers in and aim for mid-table mediocrity next season.

*That's aimed at Fatty Robinson, btw...

I think this sale was inevitable, and i wouldn't be suprised if Naughton was in South Africa this time next year.

It's a bad deal in that we are losing such a talented player, but, look at the plus points.
We get around £6Million to play with and strengthen the side, and we've already got a ready made replacement in Walker, who played excellently in the back end of last season.

I would now expect some of our other transfers to quickly go through now as i guess we were waiting on this cash to pay for the others, especially as Turry has stated that negotiations have been ongoing for the last week with Naughton.

I read 4 million in the mirror earlier, I hope it was wrong... And I also hope that the deal involves a season long loan back.

We got 4 million for Jags 2 years ago and he had a clause in his contract!

Totally agree Matth, a complete disgrace its only a great deal for the club if its more than he's worth... whats the betting the fee will be undisclosed!

Wheres the ambition?

I just hope that we now get Killa and Walker on good long term contracts before we undersell them as well!

Personally if he's going i'd rather see him go to Villa than Everton...

no fee being released.... seems fishy. He was going to go but we should have held out for around £7million IMO.

And now blackwell will have £6million aparrently to chuck at 3 more hendersons.
Great, bloody great!
