[Confirmed] Lyle Taylor

I have heard that the bits that normally get snagged (fee and personal terms) have all been agreed and sorted and that he had no issues with the medical. So it should all be [confirmed] at some point today.

You'd like to think that the fact he was up here for a medical yesterday means that it's a near formality but this is SUFC..............................

Maybe we have a player that they are interested in? That could bring the money paid out down.

I tweeted earlier that I'd seen Simon Church was still available on a free and I thought he could be a good, realistic target for us.

Yes he could be though Taylor does maybe seem to offer both physical presence and pace which if he's playing up front on his own will be needed, Church maybe doesn't have the right combination of attributes? We'll see.

Could Flynn be part of the deal to return to Falkirk... or sending a youngster or two on loan

Weir's been talking up Flynn's return to fitness today, so I doubt he's moving.

I've seen elsewhere that they need to be sure Cresswell is off the wage bill before Taylor confirmation.

This seems sensible, we don't want Cresswell changing his mind and staying ..........

The media are reporting that York are preparing to 'parade returning hero Richard Cresswell' before their game tonight so it all looks done and dusted.

As you say, given that he's been injured, I can't see Weir writing Flynny off just yet, it's not as if we're weighed down with wide options. I also think he'll be ahead of McFadzean in the pecking order early doors.

In Weir's first interview I was very taken with his view of wingers "getting their crosses in" ie there is no excuse for wingers not getting their crosses in.

I'm really encouraged by this because I don't think he'll tolerate the fannying around we saw last season from full backs and wingers alike.

I'm not Flynn's biggest fan but his instructions will be very clear now. He's never going to beat people with electric place and he isn't the trickiest but somehow I think Weir will get the best out of him.

Their job is to get the ball into the right place and I'm assuming Taylor will try to get across defenders unlike Kitson, Porter etc.

7 goals in our last 13 games tells you exactly what we became, I'm encouraged by the changes

Still not sure about Flynn because he's certainly been under instruction to be defensive minded since he's been with us and to be fair, has done the job well. Unfortunately, this has been at a cost to doing the actual job he was bought for. I'm not convinced he's got the pace to go past people in the old fashioned sense of a winger but playing in a front three might just suit him more as it seems to be doing with Murphy pre season.

Can't make my mind up about Flynn. There have moments where I think he is terrible and flashes of a good quality player.
Last season he did seem like he almost wasn't allowed to push forward as much as he should due to defensive duties. But as we have the least attacking full backs in the world I dont see him needing to do that much defensive work.
Another big plus for him (and any other wide player) would be to play him on the correct side so he hasn't got to check back and try to cut in every single time.
All in all I'm hopeful that last season was finding his feet and he will push on this season playing in a role much more suited to him.

In a 4-2-3-1 system I think wingers will be required to contribute even more in terms of running into space, taking defenders on, setting up chances and scoring goals themselves. I don't think Flynn is ideal in such a system, although I think Wilson and the full back he was protecting last season loved him.

can't see this being the case as a fee had already been agreed by Rotherham. So the blades will have known what the asking price was

We shouldn't have a problem if what the stir is sayings true.

Although Falkirk have told potential suitors that Taylor’s valuation is set in stone, The Star understands they could be prepared to accept a package of staged payments based variables including performance. However, Holt’s board of directors are adamant the amount must eventually be settled in full, irrespective of whether the transfer proves a success.
“Falkirk won’t budge on the sum they want,” the source continued. “But there is possibly room for manouevre with regards to how it’s paid.”

He has class and know-how, as a player with his Liverpool young days should. It's purely the physicality that's missing.

Looking at the Everton system, he'd be a poor man's Stephen Pienaar, but he needs the poor man's Baines to overlap him. Sadly one of our left backs are remotely up to being a poor man's anything...

He reminds me of how Tongy was at the end of his time with us, what we need is the Tongy who burst onto the scene in 2003.

Why we would want to send Flynn ?

Personally I am a fan of Flynn, however considering we haven't got a pot to piss in I would have thought he would be a player they would consider. Also, I am not sure where he fits into the front 3 we now play

No, you need international clearance:

“Players registered with one Association may only be registered with a New Association once the latter
has received an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from the Former Association. The ITC shall be
issued free of charge without any conditions or time limitation. Any provisions to the contrary shall be null
and void”

An International Clearance Form itself states that:-

“This form must be completed for a player who has previously played abroad (including Scotland, Wales
and Northern Ireland) and who is to be registered to play for a Club in England.”
