were going down!! I will give the lads a chance and cheer him on but not a good signing in my opinion!

Foxy has not confirmed it yet, ............ oh the agiony of waiting to find out if there is any truth in the OS site :p

Must admit i'm undewhelmed, however, if he helps get us safe then fair play to Micky. From reading between the lines on the OS, it may be that he's brought him in to compete/replace Monty??

Has Petey joined us??

and you've seen him play lots of times have you ? Must have with that comment. So are you saying he is not a better option than Quinn or Monty ? What about his leadership qualities ? Your comment would suggest you know loads about him. In terms of the qualities he has got, why,in your opinion, isn't he a good signing ? What faults has he got ?

personally,I cannot recall seeing him play but then I cant't recall loads of our signings before they played for us.

Im not against this move at all, we're suffering from a lack of aggression and a certain amount of leadership - this signing should provide that.

Would love another ball player but we're not in a position to try playing our way out of a mess.

I've been saying for ages (and discussed it on here with Bergen) that we require height, strength and experience in the middle of the park. We've lacked it since Speed's brief cameos as a player. So thumbs up from me.

If you want further evidence of why it is needed watch the play off final goal and see how easy that lightweight Burnley fella shrugged off Monty and others to waltz through the centre of our midfield. Playing through us as others on here call it.

Now is not the time to start building. This signing for me should stabalise us. We need a left winger to give this a bit of balance

Good Signing

Good signing he will do well he left leeds when he was on loan as he couldnt agree the terms of a new deal leeds offered him, he is very good player and will fit in prefect.

Shocked ccfc let him go on a free:)

Apparently he was on high wages similar to the situation with Britton. He brings leadership qualities being a captain and Adams knows what he is getting as he has worked with him previously.

Looking at bbc 606 a lot of Coventry fans rate him and see he will work his gonads off. Just what we need at a time like this.

Surely a fresh face, experienced at this level who puts himself about a bit has got to be a good addition, hasn't it?

Not a signing to get worked up over - Adams has clearly got a view of what is needed right now, knows the lad from working with him before and with tight resources thinks he's worth bringing in.

Given the last 4 managers at the Lane have all ended up playing Monty and Quinn in the centre at some stage in spite of the views of the assembled expertise in the crowd, it's clear that there isn't a great deal better at the club and Adams knows it needs changing. I think I'll bow to the judgement of the bloke whose arse is in a sling if he doesn't deliver in this case.

To be fair, you lot could have done with him on Saturday & you might not have got stuffed by the mighty Leyton Orient.

Part of the equation here is the likelyhood that the rapid winger or commanding centre back we know we need just might not be available. If Micky thinks this guy can help keep us up, and there's nothing better out there, then that's all there is too it.

Much of our trouble this season has been due to a lack of professionalism. Green players making stupid mistakes. Poor marking at set pieces. Silly penalty concessions.

We really do need experienced leaders out there to help maintain basic standards.

I've been saying for ages (and discussed it on here with Bergen) that we require height, strength and experience in the middle of the park.

Doyle is 5 foot 8, so unlucky on the height front.

I assume when Williamson is out for an extended period again (who knows, maybe he already is) a thrilling prospect awaits us: a 3 man all scrappy non passing midget midfield. Just as bad as the Monty-Leigertwood Black Hole, but wastes an extra salary!

Hold your horses Rev. This could be the news that Pinchy, yourself and any lovers of the beautiful game who support Sheffield United are looking for: The end of the maestro.

Offering a long term contract to a player so similar to Monty can only spell one thing. His days are numbered.

As for the signing, well we'll have to see. Adams knows him and hence we have to trust his judgement. As I said it another thread it could be a master stroke (he becomes an inspirtation leader, a rock in the middle and uses hiss experience to help us win games) or a disaster (he is another Monty and we then officially have the 4 least talented midfielders in the league).

I have considered that possbility, but I doubt it. For the following reasons:

1. No one in their right mind would take that contract off us and United are not going to release him

2. That would require joined up thinking. Remember, this is a club that has had either one or no fit centre halves on its own books for 12 months now. I do not believe joined up thinking currently happens in the club hiearchy.

3. As sure as eggs is eggs, Williamson is going to get injured again. What did he manage this time - 3 games in a row? We will need a warm body to fill that space.

4. I read a lot of guff about how many managers admire Monty. Sadly, none of them ever seem to come anywhere near us during the transfer window.

Taken from another board I go on, a Coventry fan's view:

I see Doyle has completed his move.

Good luck to him and thanks for his effort for the club. Certainly not the most talented but if every player put as much effort and willingness to play for the club as Doyle did in his nearly 300 games for Coventry we might not be where we are today. He's been dropped many a time and never complained, got punched in the face by the club captain in training, never threw the towel in.

He played through injury to try and help save us from relegation in 07/08 and for that I will always be thankful to him.

It's time he moved on as he's on a fair whack and we need some more talent in the midfield, but thanks Doyler

I've highlighted the pertinent points :p

No, you haven't.

*bear*

I know there's a lot of talk of Doyle and Montgomery being similar players but could this move signal that Stephen Quinn is unofficially available for transfer? He was strongly linked with a move in the summer.

v Millwall

Apart from the first 20 mins where he was anonymous, I thought he looked decent on Sat.

He seemed to have most of the Monty assets but he also has the ability to pass a ball better and isn't afraid to have a pop.

With Monty out I reckon he could be a very decent signing.

Any opinions from v Reading will be appreciated

Sorry to disappoint, but he was anonymous tonight. Our tracking of Reading's midfield runners was non-existent. It was incredible we stayed in the game for so long.

I don't think Doyle was a bad signing but tonight wasn't a night to be judging him favourably!

WAsn't it you doing the Reading comparison thread JD? Add continuity to their attributes. I think I recognised more of their players than our own, which probably puts me on a par with tow of our players....

I thought everyone gave of their best tonight, no hiding, no looking the other way, no abdicating responibility, but still sooooooooooooooooooo far short of looking like we've the wherwithal to dig out of it.
