Maybe de Girolamo will be our saviour.

[Clutching at straws/hoping for miracles, time.]

I hope so broomers. Here comes the problem though....ignoring the fact that he's unproven and assuming he's a world beater....if he does replace Blackman to good effect, he will be the next one sold. Then his eventual replacement will be sold and so on. It is a constant cycle of no hope. Sometimes I wonder if there's any point.

Apart from that yes we would be clutching at straws expecting a 17 year old to replace our top scorer and fly out of the blocks in doing so. To be fair though it's the only straw we have to clutch at!

3rd club (championship club mentioned) looks like it might be Leeds if Becchio leaves Elland Road

Just checked out the sky live feed and he looks like he's agreed to sign for Reading. Better than him going to a Championship club, and definitely better than him going to dirty leeds. How many players have we sold to that shower over the years?

Well if he wants to be a bench warmer at Reading good luck to him but also can't blame him for wanting PL football.

I'm amazed at the number of people taking the "OK to sell if we get the funds to replace" position. It NEVER HAPPENS. Why would anyone think it will happen now? We sell, we weaken, we get worse. That's how we have done things for years, it's how we come to be where we are now.

I really don't care if we sell or not, the type of player I really want to keep and build around are long gone from the club. There is not one player who is now indespensible. Just a motley collection of lower league journeymen and unproven youngsters.

Blackman has got qualities worth perservering with but my main concern with him (other than his total inability to use both feet) is that he isn't a "goalscorer". He scores lovely goals, now and again, but where are the tap ins from a couple of yards that real goalscores do for fun?

However , the biggest surprise on this thread is alco's volte face, from calm club pragmatist to rebel with a cause. Everyone has a tipping point it seems :)

Great post this. The first paragraph is what I've been saying on here for the last few days. Like you, I can recall no historical evidence to suggest we will reinvest the funds well, if at all!

It's also a good point about Blackman. The only aspect of his game that's lacking is an ability to score scrappy (or "poachers") goals. I've often thought that if you could combine the qualities of Blackman and Cresswell you would have a cracking forward! I do think Blackman will develop though and become a more well rounded player, he has all the tools.

It's sad that I'm reaching the point of not caring when we sell good players. This club is happy treading water forever so let it.

But he wants to stay and play regularly for us, he said so.

Damn you McCabe, damn you to hell, you damn dirty ape.

If he does go to Reading, is there any chance we can have Jay Tabb as part of the deal. He'd do a hell of a job in the centre of midfield for us.

He probably will be, but sadly it's a lot more alluring than being at Bramall Lane. The lure of more money is a big draw as well. We simply can't compete with the likes of Reading anymore. Sounds wrong doesn't it?

Assuming the fee is the reported £1.2M that should get us a great couple of proven League 1 players. I'm oddly excited by this departure

Yep we are being out done by a plastic yo-yo club that we were competing for promotion with just a few seasons ago.

Like Wilson will see a penny of that money!

I take it your tongue is firmly in cheeck there. The process goes like this;

Await last minute deadline
Sell half decent talent
Make fee undisclosed
Divide fee by 10 and give that part to manager
Scrap around for other players who are sold last minute for no other reason than nobody wants them.

Other than that, this is really exciting.

I know what you're saying puppet, but, if he doesn't then McCabe has nobody to blame but himself if we're still in this God forsaken league again next season!

Another transfer window another united star goes. Get ready to see Maguire leave too. Its a dismal situation we are in that we cant keep a player for more than 6 months. Top scorer. Be interested to see if Danny does see any of the money but I doubt it. Depressed.

So Blackman is a United "Star" now?

Who went last January out of interest?

Tripe.

Even the wheeler dealer Harry Redknapp has been moaning this morning about how difficult it is to sign anyone decent in January. You let decent players go at your peril in January and you should have a replacement lined up before you sell. (lol like United are ever that smart)

Blackman is easily replaced he isnt exactly banging them in.
He's not Messi
Why do we build up players that may be leaving into something they are not? Sit near me on the Kop and listen to others slagging him off as greedy or lazy

20th November, 2010 we beat Palace at home 3-2 and I couldn't make it so I gave my ticket to my brother (who knows his footie). I rang him later to ask his opinion and he said 'Evans was the only guy who looked capable - a cut above.'

Remember, until about November 2011 (when he started scoring), Ched got incredible abuse from a lot of the crowd.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

When Blackman is banging them in for Reading/Palace/whoever, would it be the crowd who got it right?

I regard him as one of our better players perhaps using the word star is inappropriate. Erm off the top of my head cannot remember but united do have a long history of selling our better players and not replacing them until the loan market

Well you don't tend to get many offers for your shit ones :).

Blackman is a forward, being played out on the wing so he isn't considered one of our best players by the management. If you're being the manager and trust his decisions you can see the logic behind accepting that money for a square peg.

All very well Bob but that would require the management to have a decent idea of how we intend to replace the threat posed by Blackman down the right wing. Yes, he's being played "out of position" - although his general movement and awareness up front seemed lacking to me - but he does contribute more of a threat than almost anyone else in our first XI.

In addition - maybe the management accepts that he'd be better up front but that he provides the best solution on the right wing?

If we replace him with Barry Robson I'll be incredibly disappointed.

Blackman was the best of a bad bunch but nothing special. He may be one day but he isn't now (although he does take a good penalty that might have made a difference come the play-off final in May). To make £1M profit in 6 months is good business.

If the manager has made the decision because he thinks he can improve the team, that's fine by me.
How many people seriously think the decision to sell Blackman was his though?
