Sky sports now saying its Reading who are in pole position with Weeds showing an interest as well to replace Becchio?

Personally, think we would miss his creativity and regardless of what others say he would leave a hole in our squad as there is no creativity from Doyle or Flynn and MacDonald is off the boil of late? Pretty sure promotion is worth more than £1mil to us in the scheme of things but if PL clubs are interested, he will probably see the bright lights and jump ship to find himself on a bench for the rest of the season.

Well since Blackman isn't interested in joining Palace, a team challenging for promotion to the PL, then I can't really see him wanting to sit on a bench for the remainder of the season and watch his team get relegated from the PL, but without a doubt I'll be wrong again.... £££ :D

Blackman is easily replaced he isnt exactly banging them in.
He's not Messi
Why do we build up players that may be leaving into something they are not? Sit near me on the Kop and listen to others slagging him off as greedy or lazy

Out top scorer will be easily replaced in a few days?

Why do you think there's such interest in Blackman, rather than all these other players we'll "eaily replace" him with?

Pace and trickery with an eye for goal - not easilty replaced, hence such interest. A bit too selfish and shoved out on the wing - easily rectified, hence such interest.

Sounds about right, Colin would buy him just to spite us.

Three attributes that you want from a striker spot on Alco
As I've said before he'll end up with 25 goals plus.
How do you replace that with £500,000 and Wilson will get that if he's lucky

He is our only player left who looks anything like pacey or tricky. He will be a massive loss.

Might sound negative but I really do think this season will become a complete write off if (when) he goes. Anyone we bring in between now and Thursday will be a typical rushed signing from the bargain bin. Very few clubs make good signings in the January window, they're always quick fix jobs. The fact that we're looking at two unproven academy players who can't seem to nail down first team football tells me everything.

My prediction, we'll sell Blackman and bring someone in on loan to replace him.

I have said elsewhere IF he stays he must go back up front.
Pace - yes
Trickery -yes
Eye for a goal - not that much of an eye other than from the spot. May change if he was to be played as a striker.

Get a winger in who can cross and we will see.
Dont get me wrong I dont want him to go but I just dont see it as a disaster as long as we bring others in that will stengthen the team overall.

I would agree with you if I thought for one minute that we might do that..... :tumbleweed:

Best case scenario we'll sign a couple of journeymen that do nothing to improve the team. Worst case scenario we'll lose someone else and bring in one loan signing.

I like Blackman quite a lot, but he's [of course] far from the finished article. An offer of over a million pounds is really too good to refuse, in my view, provided [and here's the rub] DW is allowed to use the funds to strengthen generally.

The season is over if Blackman goes I know the games on Sky against Coventry but we'll be lucky to get 14,000.
And when Wilson's juggled about with another half dozen formations we'll be just above midtable with gates of 12,000 and everybody will be just going through the motions.
Season over.
But if Blackman stays it shows Mcabe is commited to promotion and it will show in performances.

I could still see him going to Palace, or even Leeds. A chance to play in the PL with Reading might seem a tempting offer but I think he might want assurances of first team football. It seemed important to him when he signed for us because he had offers from the Championship at the time. I like Blackman but I think he would find it hard to get into Reading's starting eleven at the moment. Le Fondre and Pogrebnyak both seem to be playing well.

Blackman has some obvious attributes which have been well chronicled above but I think he has some issues too. Consistency and correct attitude can sometimes appear to go awol, which is the thing that frustrates me.

So, the offer from Reading, is, I believe, considerable and difficult to turn down; but given our history of selling the better players at crucial stages and apparently about to repeat the excercise once again, leaves the club open to ridicule and derision from already well pissed off fans.

In principle I think Blackman's departure is unavoidableas long as DW is given the manouverablity to use some of the cash and freed up wages to strengthen in other areas and replace Bklackman too. (However, Barry Robson's imminent arrival doesn't exactly float my boat, his younger version never impressed me).

Surprised at that, mate. I thought he'd be your type of player - a battler who can play a bit as well, not to mention a 'sit up and take notice' goalscoring record for a midfielder. I'm all for youth and exuberance but ability is what matters most. A good old head [Cowans, McCall etc.] is priceless in the middle of the park, I'm sure you'll agree?

I hope we get this fellow - K-Mac/Doyle ain't working!

Don't disagree with your reasoning at all Pinchy, age is irrelevant if performance is delivered. However, Robson disappointed me last time I saw him at the Lane a few seasons ago, but I'm not daft enough to dismiss him on one showing and hopefully he can come in and improve a badly failing midfield, where most of our current problems stem from.

Wednesday are at home on Saturday too so that is probably why.

I think I read somewhere at the beginning of the season that the fixture computer had dropped a bollock. Somehow they managed to put us and them at home on the same weekend twice. Apparantley they moved theirs first, now it is our turn to reciprocate. As for attendance, despite our recent dismal run, I don't think that the crowd will be as low as 14k. We haven't had a home game since the 12th January, so I don't think it will drop that low.

Just to add to the above; I don't know how the fixture computer manages to do this? At least twice this season ourselves and the pigs have been playing away on the same night too. One quick switch around and this could have been prevented.

I'm amazed at the number of people taking the "OK to sell if we get the funds to replace" position. It NEVER HAPPENS. Why would anyone think it will happen now? We sell, we weaken, we get worse. That's how we have done things for years, it's how we come to be where we are now.

I really don't care if we sell or not, the type of player I really want to keep and build around are long gone from the club. There is not one player who is now indespensible. Just a motley collection of lower league journeymen and unproven youngsters.

Blackman has got qualities worth perservering with but my main concern with him (other than his total inability to use both feet) is that he isn't a "goalscorer". He scores lovely goals, now and again, but where are the tap ins from a couple of yards that real goalscores do for fun?

However , the biggest surprise on this thread is alco's volte face, from calm club pragmatist to rebel with a cause. Everyone has a tipping point it seems :)

Maybe de Girolamo will be our saviour.

[Clutching at straws/hoping for miracles, time.]

Reading have pulled out of signing Tom Ince so i would expect them to try harder for Blackman now.

First, I am in no way 'in the know' regarding Reading - I'm a fan, but that's all. That said, I think Blackman might be a 'futures buy' for RFC, as I can not see him fitting into the current RFC lineup. But a purchase and a loan-back to the Blades might fit both clubs interests - Blackman gets continued first team play with a side that knows him and vice versa, and Reading has him available for next season with a half-season more experience. That might become crucial if we're relegated, as Pog will go and Alfie might also look to stay in the Premier League. Hunt is out of contract but would resign in a minute, Roberts is all but out to the BBC and Church just has not been that effective for Reading and is also out of contract. Reading could become very short of strikers quickly if we don't manage to stay up. Even if we hang on to Alfie, we'd still be down to him and Hunt. That would be a side that Blackman could easily move into in the Championship. If we stay up, Blackman could compete with Hunt (and easily beat out Church, IMO) for a backup striker role, plus provide some cover on the wing.

I've heard it's a straight swap for cristiano ronaldo with a cruise ship coming our way all to be done at the last possible moment of 2099

Well Ronaldo is unsettled at Madrid and isn't going to sign a new deal. :)

Rumour has it that the reason he rejected the move to Palace is cos he has a deadline day move to the mackams lined up. Late in the day deal giving us the excuse that it all happened too late to replace him. Explains their scout watching him over Xmas

Watch this space. Hope I'm wrong

I wouldn't blame him if he left. The lure of premier league footie would be too much for anyone, especially from a wage perspective. Not sure he'll be off to Sunderland though. Aren't they set to sign Danny Graham for about 5.5million?
