Could Blackman have only agreed to join us with a release clause in his contract - one that's been activated with Palace's last bid?

Possibly, but if that were the case and you were McCabe; wouldn't you explain that?

UTB

Not if you wanted other clubs to come in and bid over it.

PS. I don't think there is a release clause, just playing devils wanker.

Probably - though we might not want to advertise that fact to potential bidders. It's not something I imagine he has, but as a possible explanation to your question could fit.

But it was already out of the bag - our Chairman was on the Radio saying "I hope he stays" - so any potential bidder knows he's for sale.

Not worth £5million but we need to inflate the price because we know they have £15 million in the bank is what i mean

how much would we have got for zaha? serious question. i'd guess around £1.8m. if we had messi, we'd probably let him go for £3m.

does anybody believe we would get £10-£15m for any player? not a snowballs. were the football equivalent of shopping in poundland.

True it is rather annoying when Southampton and Palace dig their heels in they manage to get near £10mil or more for one player. Although we seem to produce more defenders and I guess they are seen to be cheaper purchases to PL clubs. Mind you Bale started as a left back at Southampton and they still got £10mil for him.

Personally I just think we just don't bother to hold out for more money. As soon as someone puts more than a million quid on the table McCabe must just start to dribble and say yes.

so lets get this straight ,even if we have turned Palace down ,and want Blackman to stay or get more money for him ,lets make stories up anyway to slag off United and McCabe ?

1.2 million?
Surely we should be at least holding out for £2million, seeing as palace have just recieved the Zaha cash.

Come on McCabe, grow a backbone & say no. Or at least shaft them over the price.

Putting newspapers aside can you think of another explanation for, from McCabe's own mouth;

"I hope he stays".

?

UTB

If McCabe did say this (I didn't hear his interview but assume he did from what has been said in this thread) it is an odd thing for him to say. He does not need to hope Blackman stays. He can guarantee it, by turning down any offer received. After all, Blackman is under contract...

He did. 1.2mil for Blackman is a very good deal.

Exactly my point. And he did say it.

Aye, because we need to make them up don't we?

Up to now I havent got involved with that Mcabe crap if he lines his pockets but still keeps paying the bills is ok by me.
But now hes crossed the line by selling our leading scorer in the middle of a promotion push.
I have paid the full amount [I didnt get a season ticket] to watch every home game and apart from the Bournmouth,Stevenage and Scunthorpe games its been dire.
By selling Blackman we will lose 5,000 fans quickly and if we dont go up we will start with gates under 13,000 next season.
It seams to me Mcabes buisness empire could be crumbling and he drip feeding money from these deals to keep them afloat.
Selling Blackman would turn the fans against him but would he bothered? I doubt it

Were you around in '97?

In many ways, this is worse though JD. In the past we''ve been living beyond our means, so accepting that you can't pay 'em in washers, if we hadn't got the cash then we hadn't got it.

I've defended previous sales because I understood that we had to get to this point (FFP) - but agreeing to sell our top scorer when nobody else looks like they can score, when we've lost our leading striker, when we've now got wages to <65% of turnover, when we're in the race to get out of England's third division - this is a new low for us.

:(

I miss Bash hands.

It comes to something when we're doing comparative analyses of mid-term implosions. :)

But I take your point. For me, this was the season in which we started to rebuild sustainably. Younger players, lower wages, a developing squad. I thought any departures would be silly money for our best kids.

So this sale, as currently reported, I do not understand.

Ebanks-Blake linked with Palace, would they want Blackman as well if he goes?

So lets do some maths. Promotion to the Championship =?????
Selling our leading scorer puts one hell of a dent in that but netts £1.2m (in installments by the way).

Now I know and accept we are a selling club but surely simple maths tells you this is bordering on lunacy at this point in January. Perhaps you tell the player he can go end of season if we don't get promoted but to sell him at this point? I'm struggling to comprehend yet another tepid JTW then we go and do this (and yes, I know he has turned Palace down by the way).

If it had been Palace, they may well have sent him back for the remainder of the season. Whether that would be a good thing in his case is debatable but it might have suited both parties.

Really, for our top scorer after we've just lost our best striker?

A good deal for who?

UTB

For me he hasnt shown enough to keep him when money like that is offered. Top scorer yes but most are pens. (very well taken ones mind)

I do think if he stays he should be pushed back up front and told to run his arse off. Then bring in an out and out winger

But why should you even bother with this? He only signed a contract 7/8 months ago. "You signed it, now fucking play for your money" would be more my message to him.

If he goes I suspect it will be because we want it as a club.

Thats my first thought G2k. But it appears that in modern day football this is a totally alien concept. Depends on whether he believes the vision the club has as well I suppose.

I am sorry, but I think it depends on his belief in how much more Palace will be offering him :-(
