I am sorry, but I think it depends on his belief in how much more Palace will be offering him :-(

But if he is under contract then surely we have every right to tell him to sit tight and get on with it? Otherwise whats the point in signing a.....................sigh.

regardless of wheher he's good or not, fact is palace think he is. or they wouldnt have offered 1.2m for him. and other clubs seem interested too. so just from a financial point of view, 1.2m is ridiculous when its obvious we could get closer to 2m for him. what we think he is worth is irrelevant really. he's worth whatever other clubs are willing to pay.

Well yes, but I think clubs generally take the view that it is not a good idea to have a disgruntled player on your hands who wants away and you have stopped him getting away.

But I think fans could accept a summer move, when we could plan around it. I think asking a player to sit tight for 6 months isn't unreasonable.

As it happens, it's academic. We'd said "yes" as soon as Palace thought "loose change", yet the player wasn't interested at that point.

But why should you even bother with this? He only signed a contract 7/8 months ago. "You signed it, now fucking play for your money" would be more my message to him.

If he goes I suspect it will be because we want it as a club.

And if you don't give it everything we won't hesitate to drop you from the team whilst still paying you.

Unfortunately the contract does nothing to guarantee performance. If he wants to go then we may as well let him.

We just have to make sure that we get the best financial settlement we can in those circumstances.

N.B Please note I said IF he wants to go. I don't know his thoughts at all but I am merely commenting on your comment relating to enforcing a contract.

and I might have some sympathy with the player if he was approaching the end of his contract and we were re-negotiating. My point is that he is 7 or 8 months in, and if he now wants out (and I too know not what the attitudes of club or player are) then we have every reason to balk at the prospect.

I generally don't buy the "oh, but he won't try if we keep him" line, as I would still say professional pride would mean MOST players would still perform.

Rumour has it that the reason he rejected the move to Palace is cos he has a deadline day move to the mackams lined up. Late in the day deal giving us the excuse that it all happened too late to replace him. Explains their scout watching him over Xmas

Watch this space. Hope I'm wrong

Since I was so very wrong about lowton being capable of holding his own in the premier league I'll keep my opinions to myself :)

Blackman should think this situation through he could make biggest mistake of his career.
He came to us after Blackburn made it clear he wasn't in their plans farmed out in endless loan deals.
Ok he will cash in with a signing on fee a few more quid in the pay packet but he could be on the bench or languishing in the reserves.
Before long he'll be a nobody back in the loan Market.
I would say to him finish the job here get 25 goals plus if we go up fine if not he can line himself up for a better deal than what's on offer now

Alan Biggs on Twitter:

"In answer to #sufc tweets my money would be on Blackman going. Delay to line up incoming deals. A striker + maybe a winger too? Mark Duffy?"

I'd be surprised if he doesn't get both appearance money and a goal scoring bonus?

See what you're saying. But if I have the choice of keeping him and bringing no-one else in, or getting rid for a decent fee, and bringing 2 or 3 in……i'd take the latter

I'd like to keep Blackwell together with two decent loanees 1 winger 1 CM start scoring a shed full of goals, go up as champions and live happy ever after

all this "if players want to go" stuff is bollocks. 99% of the time, unless youre talking about uber prima donna superstars, if you dont want to sell a player then the player just gets on with it. if that wasnt the case, then most clubs in the league would have no players. every club in every division has maybe 4 or 5 players that are capable of playing for what most would perceive to be a better club. if it was the case that you can never keep players when you get an offer, then how the hell are you ever supposed to improve the team??

the teams that go on successful runs up the leagues, are the ones that keep their best players. we did it in the bassett era. the likes of southampton and norwich did it more recently.

And how long do you think it would take to bed them in? Murphy has been here nearly a month. How many goals has he got? When it was announced he was coming you'd thought we'd just signed Benteke or someone.

Nah if Blackman goes then expect a slide into obscurity, Long and Maguire to go in the summer, probably followed by Wilson. Blackman is no super striker but to toss any remaining hope of going up away like this is madness. Shows McCabe for what he is - frigging clueless.

Only thing remaining is to be overtaken by the Millers and Bradford leaving only York left to be Yorkshire's bottom club.

Thanks McCabe. A few years ago you had the opportunity to make SUFC Yorkshire's top club. Piggies and Weeds were in dire straights and you buggered it up big time, helped sadly by a manager who was so unadventurous away from home and some dodgy dealing in East London. Unbelievable.

SUFC the club that shoots itself in both feet. No wonder Wednesday laugh at us. They may be arrogant but at times we are just plain stupid.

Blackman is easily replaced he isnt exactly banging them in.
He's not Messi
Why do we build up players that may be leaving into something they are not? Sit near me on the Kop and listen to others slagging him off as greedy or lazy

Fact remains he's our top scorer. Teams going for promotion do not sell their top scorers. Added to this he's the only player I enjoy watching at the moment, none of the others have an ounce of flair between them.

And are these the same knuckleheads on the Kop that gave dogs abuse to George Long the other week?

Obviously there is quite a few out there who think he's handy.

And Wards is spot he is the only player who when in possession you feel things will happen.

Blackman has been hit and miss but he's still be our best forward by some distance. At least he will run at players and has a bit of pace. This is the slowest Blades team I've ever season and I dread to think what it would be like without Blackman.

Long and Maguire to go in the summer, .

What's this obsession with Maguire & Long going? Have you seen them play this season? Both have been very inconsistent - even at League 1 level. I can't imagine too many higher placed teams being prepared to take a chance on them at the moment.

The problem is that KM will sell them both at the sight of some cash, even form a championship club.

And then we get all the same old excuses i.e we couldn't stand in their way

Got to agree with you the talent is there but both have got a way to go.

As for them going in the window no chance!
