I didn't get much sleep - strange really as a footy game the next day doesn't really do that.
My nipper was driving me for the 2nd time ever - coincidentally the first was this time last season v Villa.
Off at 8am for a steady drive down the M1 with the intention of getting to Perivale tube station, just off the A40 on the central line.
Stopped at a services - Mcdonalds breakfast and a Costa coffee - saw a few Blades and a young one, about 10 in a yellow away shirt - made me wonder if it was his first "away" trip to London - if it was as events unfolded, what a day for him.
Got there 11 ish - free parking at the tube station car park(bonus)
The nipper had an oyster card, but a very nice tube station man said I could use a contactless credit card - would have cost £9.62 for a return for 4 stations!!! - instead it cost under £4 for a return (bonus no 2) - thanks to the fella at Perivale tube stop. 5 stops later on a tube with a few QPR fans we get off at White City. Police in attendance, but keeping a low profile. A short 10 minutes walk to the ground - roads already closed off 1 hour before the game - again a few coppers mulling around. This is now 12 midday, 1 hour before kick off and quite a lot of activity around and very near to the White City BBC place. Bit of a shit hole round about but London is like that all over - some good areas, some bad.
Immediate impressions of Loftus Road.........SMALL ! bit tin pot, done their best to smarten it up - no wonder Tony Fernandez wants to relocate - absolutely no chance of any expansion anywhere.
Get in at 12.10 - few Blades around but again, how small is this for a premier league team - every square inch has been used for a seat and our view was back row of lower tier, slightly to the right of the goal. Owned up the the kid serving (pleasant lad) who tried to give me too much change back - said we were honest "up norf" - he respond with "I am a student at Sheff Uni" - I complemented him on his choice, said he was a good lad, but still felt a tad ripped off. The service was bloody slowwwwwwww.
My nipper told me the team - well please with Mcnuts up top and Reed in the middle.
Blades started singing from minute 1 - not as noisy as Villa, but we were on 2 tiers, but still the volume was good - as for QPR - fucking useless support and when the Blades started signing that we had a shed bigger, it made me realise what a great sense of humour our fans have.
First 10 minutes we looked edgy - settled down after that and started finding space.
Some fans took the piss out of a rather portly steward, with the strangest run ever - poor lad!
Enter Mr Mcnulty - great ball from Reed (and will say it again - HE IS GOING TO BE ONE HELL OF A PLAYER) and Mcnuts did it again. Nothing phases him on a one on one PLEASE MR CLOUGH PLAY HIM!!!
Great joy from the fans on the lower tier - we are at it again.......................could we really do it again?
Half time and I remember back to Wembley and we need to keep them quiet for 20 minutes after 2nd half starts.
Asked for divine intervention for the corner after 2 minutes - JCR - empty net, tap in - absolute raptures. Immediately glanced at Clattenberg, who looked to his linesman, got no response - pointed to the centre - 2 nil.......heaven!
We came under a bit of pressure, but the defence was solid, and we actually played very well in midfield.
Think it was Zamora who should have scored from a header - knew then it was our day.
QPR only have one song - shit support, no worse, fucking shit support.
JCR rounded it off in injury time at the same time as waving cheerio to the QPR fans.
Off back the tube at White City, didn't see any trouble but could possibly hear some on South Africa Road - Blades fans making lots of noise,
No trouble on the tubes with tons of QPR fans - everyone quiet - could have at least said well done. Would have reciprocated with hope you stay up - but fuck em - sore loosers and hope they get relegated and have to pay bucket loads to get back in the Championship.
My MOM - Mceverley - immense in defence - not far behind was Mcnuts - his first touch is exceptional - doesn't panic and has a lot of skill.
Reed is just going to be exceptional - nothing phases this kid of 17.
Well done to every player - you all played your part - great team performance.
Trip back -uninspiring - but a massive smile on or faces all the way up the M1.
Pigs lost 2-1 - so 5 live said - ANOTHER SHEFFIELD DOUBLE.
Who next? Who cares - just not Man City or Chelsea. - bring it on, but at HOME please - London is a bloody long way, and they all speak funny!!
Great, Great day out, and it is why we support The R&W Wizards.
