Complacency and thinking this will be easy

essi has missed penalties
ronaldo has missed penalties
a goalie missing one should be allowed to be laid to rest
At least he put his foot through it. I'll forgive any player for missing a penalty as long as they have the bottle to step up and hit it hard. It's not like he'll have taken any pleasure in skying it.

As for the game, I'm never that confident and I usually dread the derby. I only enjoy the results and the big moments but the game itself is torture for me. You're never that big a favourite in a Championship game and if Bolton can come and do us over then there's no reason why the pigs can't. Still, I can't help but feel like for the first time I'm looking forward to it a bit. We know the manager knows how important this game is to us and we know he gets his team up for anything. I can handle whatever happens as long as my team's up for the fight.

There will only be about 3 players in their side on Friday that was in the one we beat in September. For all their injury woes though it's worth keeping in mind their team will still have cost about £20m more than ours.

I've said the same:

Reach £5m
Rhodes £10m
Abdi £4m
Jones £2m
van Aaken £4m
Hooper £3m
Jaoa £2m

I make that £30m

does anyone really believe Wilder would countenance any form of complacency

they will adorn the pitch full of desire, and a ringing endorsement of our capabilities

Still not over it, eh Pommpey? :)

Mate. As soon as it left his foot, I turned round to my wife and granddaughter and said, "Let's go."

The ball hadn't even passed over the crossbar and sailed out into orbit. It was 'one of them moments', a bit like Brown missing the penalty, Tonge hitting the upright and Gerrard collapsing in a heap where the inevitability of being a Sheff Utd supporter suddenly makes fate zoom into 4kUHD.

"We're gonna fuck this up, aren't we?"

That little voice in the back of 30000 heads ...

pommpey

There is almost a sense of 'this will be a hammering' coming from our side this time around. This sort of arrogance is the attitude of our neighbours! King Chris won't let them think this will be easy! Are we getting overconfident?
where?

is anyone of that lot a match for leon clarke 150k
4m for van aken , how does he compare to Oconnell

monetary value is set by those daft enogh to pay such fees
if wed paid 4m for Abdi Id think our board were a set of daft cunts

As long as I can hear chants of "WERE NOT FUCKING BOUNCING AT THE LANE" whilst I'm watching the game whilst hiding at work, then a draw will do me.

When you look at the cost of that side, what must our players be worth!!??
Our midfield must be worth £40m alone!!

Nothing wrong at all with being confident.

However as with some football fans of all clubs, that too easily becomes over confidence.

Common sense says that should have no effect on the result but when it comes to Sheffield derbies we should all know how often the cocky ones have come unstuck.

If we play well we have every chance but predicting a resounding victory is a bit hollow for me when we've failed to beat sides lower in the table at home despite being the better side in those games.

All us fans need to do us play our part on the night.

Is there fuck.

Our fans are terrified to show any sign of confidence. Even when there's every reason to be confident.

We only dare pipe up after we've won. I'm not suggesting shouting from the rooftops beforehand about how we're going to win and I understand not wanting to be overconfident but I think it's a bit spineless as well. I don't like the suggestion that any display of confidence is unacceptable and 'tempting fate'.

Everybody needs to understand that this is a unique time for us. We can have complete and utter faith in Wilder and his team. They'll prepare perfectly. Nothing will affect them. They want it as much and even more than we do.

But if we lose, we lose. We suck it up. We've had disappointments before and will have them again.

Nothing wrong with being confident and fearless going into this game. As long as cockiness and arrogance doesn't accompany that. The more positive we are going into the ground, the better. Be confident, be positive, but don't let any high expectations affect how you support the team.

It’s better to crow about what you’ve done rather than what you’re going to do. A lot of people I know should apply that to life in general as well.

I think a lot of Blades fans know we should win but are too cautious to admit it, hence the cautious approach. We have been playing well, (Bolton apart) despite not getting as many points as we would have hoped, Wednesday have been woeful, (Forest apart) and have got major injury problems...Sam Hutchinson the latest, although that could be smoke and mirrors of course.

So yes, we should win on Friday, we are the bookies favorites and with a near full-strength side it should be comfortable...CW will never let us go into a game expecting to win so whatever the fans are thinking will have no bearing on the players mindsets, you can guarantee that!

My thoughts are that Wednesday will be uber defensive....10 men behind the ball and we have to break them down....now that could go one way or the other....the Sunderland way or the Bolton way...

No I don't think anyone is getting over confident that is not in a Blades fans DNA. As things stand we should be going into this game feeling confident but most of us recognise this will be a harder game than the one at the sty. The pigs have got to try harder this game they have got everything to lose, the shame of the pub team doing the double over them, a loss will move them ever closer to a relegation scrap, the whole club is in disarray and in desperate need of a boost.
We just have to make sure they get nothing other than nailed down for a relegation battle, we need to give them the hammering they have avoided for years when they were much poorer than the present side, we have let them off the hook far too many times.

It's still the pub team (with the "chip on the shoulder" attitude) vs Los Milionarios (dripping with self-entitlement), nowts changed that.

Can't say I've seen or heard this complacency that's being talked of?

Whatever team that they put out will be a decent enough side to cause us problems and one that deserves treating with respect. For whatever reason, they are out of form not crap players. Unless they've been on a team bonding trip to Lourdes this week, it'll be one that is weakened by injury, but it'll still feature decent enough players. It's a derby and anything can happen. My honest fear is that we get a man sent off and suffer because of it.

The Pigs are professional footballers and whatever we might think of them, won't want to take a beating like they did at theirs.

They were probably complacent then and look what happened!

I dont think Wilder will let the players get complacent (even if some fans are). This will be a much harder game - they have a new manager who may well be tactically astute (I expect them to shut up shop and be hard to break down), their players will (should) want to impress the new manager. Wilder will have impressed this on our boys this week, no doubt.

Last time I was confident was the Wolves play off final. That sorted me out for life.

Hello pessimism my old friend :)
