Competitive league or Poor league?

Because it is so close points wise, it is therefore a competitive league. Only the top two are showing consistency.

Hard to say if it's poorer, is it any poorer than our promotion season in 2018-19, probably not. It's certainly unpredictable. I thought Norwich and Watford would be seriously challenging us and Burnley, but neither have any form and tonight Norwich have dropped more points at home and Watford got spanked 4-0 at Swansea.

All good news for us. Not really bothered about compariosns of quality, but we have just won 5 in a row including 3 away, and I don't think anyone would think we've been at our best in any of them, in fact, far from it.

I would say it’s definitely competitive. Is it poor? As others have said you can only look at League below and League above. Evidence suggests that most teams from L1 struggle which suggests standard is good but bigger clubs like us and Sunderland made the step up without much problem. However I feel gap between Championship and EPL is widening every season. Look at Norwich, Watford and Fulham who have yoyoed between EPL and Champ. Forest are struggling Despite spending a fortune. Fulham and Bournemouth doing ok at moment but long way to go. Brentford seem to be doing ok but they have this unique recruitment system and they have Tovey. I don’t think either us or Burnley would survive in the EPL with the current squads. To do so we would need to recruit several better players.
Parachute payments are potentially a big factor in terms of Championship clubs. Those clubs that have them are at a massive advantage over the others. Current levels are £40 mill first year £35 mill second year and for clubs who were in EPL for more than one year another £15 mill. Potentially with 3 clubs coming down from EPL every year there could be quite a number of Champ clubs getting these which would substantially increase the income coming into the League and (you would think) raise the overall standard. However because of the yo-yoing of teams like Norwich, Fulham and Watford I think there are only 5 teams Norwich, Watford, WBA, Burnley and us who get these payments.
if we get promoted I hope we can survive in the EPL!

Competitive. Yes. The fact teams as low as 15th are one win away from a playoff position highlights that. The league is separated into three groups 1st and 2nd, 3rd to 15th (massive spread of competitive teams) and 16th to 24th.

The difference this year is clear we have the ability to name two or three first 11s that would be top end keeps us fresher than most, Burnley haven’t had any major injury problems keeps them consistent.

The teams outside of 1st and 2nd either don’t have good enough squads to keep things fresh or have had injuries. It’s the reason the results in the 3rd to 15th group fluctuate wildly.

Worst Championship ever, on par with the 18/19 season when we got promoted for the worst ever actually. It’s a shame because the season before the 18/19 season, it was one of the leading divisions in Europe. But, for now, we can only beat what’s in front of us. Because every team in it is shit, it is at least very competitive
Another stupid cunt

It’s an unusual league this season, I don’t know if that suggests the standards better or worse than previous seasons.

Not too long ago, in early October I recall we took just 2 points from a possible 15. I thought, that was going to condemn us to mid table obscurity, with a mountain to climb, to reach the play offs.

Now a couple of months later, we’re second, with an 11 point lead over third and a +22 goal advantage.

How is that even possible? 😉

Think your wrong, going down the table, get beat by Preston 2-0.

All I know is that who ever goes up will probably come straight back down, which is tiresome.

Could it be that next seasons Championship will include the likes of Southampton, Everton and maybe West Ham or Wolves, possibly Leeds?

Norwich, Blackburn and West Brom. et al can all kiss good bye to promotion with the likes of those teams in the mix for 2024.

This seems the season to go up, bank some money and have a big advantage come 2025 for another go, with money in the bank.

Can't it be both?
Exactly. It can be a competitive league but with two outstanding teams in it.

Don’t let the other lot fool you with their ‘Poor Championship’ trope. Outside the top two the other Championship teams would still give league one teams a good going over.

The teams which are most consistent will go up automatically. They're not necessarily the best teams or have the best players.

I still can’t believe out 6 game run without a win. That was the easiest six game run on paper in our whole fixture list.

I'd say competitive with two stand out teams at the moment. Anybody can beat anybody in this division those most consistent will rise to the top six simple as that. Ourselves and Burnley are going to take some stopping you never quite know what to expect from the rest my tips to make the play off's Sunderland, West Brom, Watford and Blackburn. chasing pack Boro, Millwall, Luton and Norwich. The only fans saying it is a poor league can be found in S6, they really should know better.

their getting worried thats why their expecting to go up but even if they do and its no gimme we probably wont be there if they do 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t think us or Burnley are as good as Fulham (Mitrovic) however I do think we are both better than Bournemouth.

On paper it should be stronger but the likes of Norwich, Watford, West Brom and Boro have been too inconsistent

It’s not a poor league. It’s a competitive league as you’ve got a lot of teams who can beat others and a lot of sides who are difficult to beat and can turn over anyone else.

The biggest difference between us and the chasing pack is that we find a way to get the wins.

As an opponent I’d be finding it tough to find a way to beat us. Sit back against us and we will run rings around the opposition using fluid possession based football. Press us high up the pitch and we’ve got the players who will rip you apart on the break. Throw in to the mix we are dangerous from set pieces with Norwood who is extremely proficient of putting in a wicked free kick for the big lads to get their head on. We are very adaptable and that is what makes us difficult to play against

the big plus for us is that weve probably only hit top gear in one game and that was against burnley and havent had a fully fit squad all season if we can get everybody fit weve the best squad in the division and can win this league imo

With us and Burnley having a decent sized gap to 3rd many as pointing to evidence that it's a poorer than normal championship.

It could be argued it's the most competitive ever ( at this stage) as the gap from the Play offs to the relegation zone is the same.

Two of the promoted sides from league one are down the bottom and two of the relegated from the premier league are way off the promotion slots right now.

I am undecided!
It’s very competitive but a poor standard

It's a very poor league this season.
We had better go up this season because next season the big boys are coming.
I don't mean possibly Everton, Wolves, Southampton or Leeds but the really big boys Sheffield Wednesday this Pearl from Porktalk.

" I think there is a lot of bang average sides. Contrast it to when we were in the play offs and all the top 6 sides were pretty strong.
If we go up this season there is no reason we can't push on next year."

It's also apparently been discussed on the radio so it is a poor league.

"It was commented on the radio last night what a poor league it is this season"

I'm also not happy with Heckingbottom what's he playing at why haven't we acquired the most points in 2022.

"Only one team has accrued more league points this calendar year……."

And Finally Old Alan sounds like he's about to explode

"That's because everybody else below second place seems to be completely incapable of stringing a few wins together."
Infact that comment was made before last night's games so he might have already exploded after the Norwich and Watfords results.

I would say this is the worst championship I’ve ever seen

Usually there is 4 or 5 automatic contenders this year it’s us and Burnley and that’s it
