Run in relative strength table after the last few games. As noted elsewhere, Southend appear to have played many of the top teams and have a relatively easier run in...

great table Sellyoak. Too much time on your hands?

Shows how tough our February is but overall we are in the same boat as everyone else, bar Southend.

Our bang average season against previous league winners continues:

And the game 32 information. Interesting that all but two of the teams won, and they both drew:

Just to give grafikhaus chart a bit of substance, this is how the top 7 would have looked after 31 games in 2011/12. Obviously, this table never actually took place as clubs had games in hand etc but it gives an idea:

Not a bad night. A draw at a tough away ground and Scunny drop 2 home points. Now if only the 'chasing pack' were as fucking awful as in the Championship...

A slightly less scientific way of looking at things at this time of year: if the number of points a team is adrift is equal to or greater than the number of games still to play, it is strongly likely (though not impossible) that the deficit will not be overhauled.

Applying this analysis, Southend in 7th have 15 games to play and they are 15 points back. This suggests that our worst case scenario, unless something odd happens, is the playoffs.

I'll be honest, I prefer the graph with the comparison against last season - this one brings too many bad memories back and looks like an omen. :D

Better?

Yes, it looks better that we're16 points better off than at this stage last season, but everything has changed for the better. Take this quote from 'View From Bristol Rovers':

“One of my favourite games for a long time. Both sides had decent spells. Game swung one way and then another. Brilliant atmosphere. Only thing missing was a goal. So good to have proper football at the Mem again.”

How many times would that have been said about an Adkins performance? Answers of 'less than nil' on a postcard. :)

The comparables after last night:

And how they all were after 32 games:

Based on all this, I would suggest that another 27 points will win the league. Not saying that 91 points is what we will finish with, just that it will be enough to win the league.

This is my rule of thumb. And if we win the next 2 games and Scunthorpe lose theirs? 11 points clear with 12 games to go. A big if, but...

Do you construct the timetables for Network Rail ......
A few years ago, I interviewed a guy who did the actual timetables for network rail. We scheduled in 45 mins for the interviews. I asked him one question - tell me about your average day - one hour later I knew all about how they timetabled freight trains and I think many other things which I can no longer remember (nor could I remember within 30 seconds of him leaving the room). No further questions were asked. I slept very well that night. He didn't get the job.

I assume he arrived 10 mins late, but considered himself "on time"?

My favourite sign on a station in India read "The times on the timetable do not indicate the times at which the trains will leave, they indicate the times before which the trains will not leave"!

Tables are great ........

much better. Demonstrating how much better we are than last year is definitely preferable to fretting over the fact this is just normal for teams that want to go up

thanks again. These are a bit like the spreadsheets I do at work to kid myself that I'm analysing things when in fact I've lost focus and I'm just dicking around with spreadsheets to waste time

Well done, good work :)

This is essentially my job description recently - not for much longer though...
