These were 2 among 5 major things I observed in the first 14 or so league matches.

The list comprises:

  • Refusal to commit men forward when on the attack. Mainly midfielders strangely opting to hang back on the counter. Having defensively minded midfielders won't help with this either. Perhaps a more attack minded central midfielder ought to be signed this window (holding out absolutely zero hope for that whatsoever)
  • Very minimal personnel in the box when a player gets into a crossing position. Not to be overlapped with JCR's awful crossing ability.
  • Way too slow at closing down without the ball, offering time and room for the opposition to pick out better passes or attempt longer range efforts, much of which Howard pathetically let in.
  • Way too slow at passing when in possession of the ball, often meaning oppositions midfield's are able to push much further up, usually awaiting to pounce on the inevitable panicked pass from one of the back four. We lose possession and all of a sudden we're under a mountain of pressure, with the entire back four on the verge of our own box.
  • Minimal showings for the ball/movement providing little options for the man on the ball. Hardly any clever little runs in behind and across the opposition back line.
A lot of this points to a lack of confidence. Has any of this improved as of recently, or have we just been churning out ugly results with the same style as before?

It'd be interesting to find out, and encouraging to know if any of it has actually improved.

Why don't you come back into the fold and bob along to watch?

Are you after your ST back :)

Howard's shot stopping and JCR's crossing have come on leaps and bounds over the past month

No. Just trying to get a general opinion on recent playing style that's all. I shan't be giving another penny to McCabe.

I've asked a few mates and I've got a resounding "has it fuck" back. Then again it was shortly after yesterday's result, and they're as negative as I supposedly am.

I think Basham gets in the box a lot more now, even if he still can't shoot/head very well. Having JB back also provides another attacking body and allows Coutts to move more central so he keeps popping up in more dangerous positions.

It has changed quite a lot from when you supposedly stopped going, so you've done the Blades a huge favour and i personally thank you deeply. Your mates to put it politely are speaking bullshit but perhaps there is no suprise there then with the company they're keeping

The best sort of mates aren't they? the ones who always agree with you?
