The stream I watch every week come from Ireland so i have to suffer the SKY or BT commentators, last night was a joke those cunts must be Villa or pig fans it was like AVTV.
The half time adverts are a laugh though when some Irish dude advertising cheap settee's says tirty tree percent off if you order before Tursday.

I mute the commentators on sky and I don't have BT. I watched with commentary on a dodgy stream tonight and it was in dutch first half then in french the second. They still talked more sense than Roy Keane.

I had no idea who the co-commentator was until now so I feel I could have a very unbiased opinion of him. God he was woeful.

Wow, thanks for that. This brings back a work memory, three years ago one of colleagues received an official written warning when he said out loud 'I feel a right berk'. A fellow colleague who didn't like him raised an official HR complaint, stating that he had used inappropriate language for a call centre, office, etc. and explained why (as per your correct CRS definition). He had an untarnished record up to this point and swore his ignorance but to no avail with HR (I think there is actually a test case for this in HR land in the UK). In addition to showing the nonsense of the politically correct work culture; commentators and pundits have had to apologise for less. I'm sure a formal online petition complaining about Sutton's use of language would have to be taken seriously by BT as they are answerable to shareholders and normal HR regulations, and he's implied that Ollie Burke is a you know what. He's just not funny and paid too much money as reward and deserves calling out for what he is. What a travesty.

The commentary was very poor. I don't believe it was biased towards Villa but it was definitely against Sheffield United and at times a little insulting. At one stage it was said that Sheffield United were already relegated. Obviously, the likelihood is relegation will happen but it is still possible to survive and last night can only help the cause. When the goal was scored it was said to be lucky and then at half time, again it was said that the goal was lucky. The only potential element of luck I can possibly come up with is that Elmohamedy was in no man's land and gave McGoldrick space which he shouldn't have. But, that is not luck, that is just poor play by Villa and good play by Blades. If it was considered lucky then surely every goal ever scored in football is lucky. The bit that annoys me, and no doubt annoys you guys, is that it was actually a very good goal. The initial pass by McGoldrick to set up the goal was sublime. He then ran 3/4 the length of the pitch and showed the loveliest of touches to cushion the ball into the net. A lot of players would have skied that over the bar.

As regards the red. My initial reaction was yellow. It was a very cynical foul but one which Jags had to make. Watching the replays as they looked to see if it was a red, my view was that it was still a yellow but I can see how it could be given as a red. I was a little surprised with the decision but VAR is causing more problems than it is fixing. I know last man back is a Red and it is still a goal-scoring opportunity if it is 50 yards from goal or 10 yards from goal, the rules don't take into account the distance out. But the reason it was Red is because it was considered Bryan would not have been able to catch ElGhazi. That decision is bollox. It was way too close to call and as such it should not have been Red imo. As regards the Villa penalty. Watkins was fouled by one if not two Blades players making zero attempt to get the ball. That was a clear penalty. The only possible debate was if it was in / outside the box. If it was outside then it should have been a free. Even the moron commentating saw this and said it would be a 'penalty anywhere else on the pitch', I think I know what he meant but you can only get a penalty in the box.

Anyway, well done. Onwards and upwards and good luck for the rest of the season. A miraculous survival bid would certainly be fun for the neutrals

There was one moment last night that showed what a thin line there is, in 2nd half Fleck makes an unbelievably good sliding tackle getting the ball cleanly. If he was a second late the Villa player was in row Z, but it was thankfully a marvellous tackle.

Couldn't make up my mind on the Villa penalty after watching it numerous times (which shows how wrong it is for VAR to be portrayed as being able to provide a definitive answer). I certainly breathed a sigh of relief when play restarted after the incident though.

I've heard that every borderline penalty decision is reviewed even if they don't announce it. I can only assume that they checked it and saw it was outside of the box - VAR can't give free kicks. It looked a foul to me

The online debate just shows how many problems VAR is creating. Regarding the Red, I can still see how it was given but I think it should have been a yellow. But with VAR all doubt should be removed. It should be crystal fcuken clear that it was a Red for the Ref to award the Red. These decisions should not create more debate. The Villa 'penalty'. We should not be debating it. It should have been made bloody clear which it is.

Every bloody week we have stupid decisions by VAR. I think that ex players should be asked to assist the VAR Ref in their decision making and give a real understanding of what it was like on the pitch.

Yes, technically he was last man - ish in my view. He was a long way from goal, and Bryan could well have made it across. For me, yellow was the correct call.

But it is what it is, I've been rather overtaken by other family events today so I'm now wishing VAR was the worst of my problems, but it really isn't.
