Not just better, much better and DESERVED all 3 points. That pains me to say.

I would have taken 6 of their players (at least) in a heartbeat over the ones we had out there. That pains me to say.

We are far far too slow in possession and teams that come to defend (not that Colchester did!) will always get men back in time. We won't win many 'home bankers' with that side. That pains me to say.

We have no creativity and the loss of a winger for 1.5mil with no reinvestment at all of the money has to be the key reason. That pains me to say.

Nigel has to stop farting about, and stop playing Mr nice guy, or he'll end up with the second sacking of his career on his CV for putting his faith in players that simply aren't good enough.
And why are we waiting to sign players when we need them now? Do we get more points for the games around Christmas time?

No players ratings because I'd be delving into minuses to describe some of the performances tonight. That is the worst I've ever seen us, we've hit our lowest ebb. The players are the real problem, putting faith in the wrong ones.

Wake up Nigel or you'll lose the fans, and I'd hate that to happen as he is my favourite United manager in a good number of years. Once the fans turn, that's it.

It was a must win tonight and we've lost. Time to stop playing Mr Nice Guy and sign the players we need.

Yep no doubt that they were better, they had pace and movement. It's not a difficult game this football lark

I know that's written with a heavy heart pal. It was dire tonight and that's a fair assessment unfortunately.

It pains me to say......

I agree

When we are trying to put teams under pressure they seem to still believe they can score again. We aren't intimidating sides, it looks like they see us as a soft touch defensively, with lightweights in centre midfield.
First half was as bad as anything under Clough and yet again we were incapable of changing anything during the half.

I actually do put this as possibly our worst performance since our relegation season.

So I also agree.

We've seen some dire ones Caseh, but I totally agree, the first half was a total embarrassment, a worse performance I'm struggling to remember. Improvement second half, but at 2 all, I had just mouthed the words "just waiting for the sucker punch" to a mate when 10 seconds later Howards stood rooted as the net bulged.

If they see us like that, they're not far wrong.

Which is embarrassing.

You're right. They were better. Colchester looked the better side all night.
It was awful watching them outplay us on every part of the pitch. They wanted it more, but they were also better in terms of individual skill, commitment and awareness.
And as a team....they were better organised, more practiced in their passing, and more confident in each other.
How many times did we lose the ball because no-one was available for a throw-in? It was an embarrassing performance.
Shame on those players tonight!

that's the worst half i've ever seen i'm going through the archive in my head. noone even made a challenge we were like traffic cones.. i think freeman made one and looked embarassed with himself

This was a side that drew 3-3 against 10 MAN CHESTERFIELD the other day. From the 10th minute they had 10 men and still didn't lose against them, we had our first choice 11 out just about and lost 3-2.

If I never saw 8 of those who played for us today play again I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

EDIT: safe to say it's no surprise McEveley is one of the 8, but he wasn't the worst tonight - I'm big enough to admit that. Putting the finger on who was the worst tonight is impossible. It was that bad.

They were better. We never looked in control of the game, we looked like we could score, but they always looked like they were even more likely to.

This isn't the way a promotion side has to be. We need two loans desperately, I feel like we can score enough, but our defence looks like shipping goals every game, and our midfield lacks creativity.

We've all being saying it, for a couple months now, a centre half and a quality midfielder is needed now if we want to be challenging up there.

I thought we'd cope with these two games, as the board clearly did too. Bad mistake, however better late than never, rectify it now.

Just out of curiosity, who are the players that you don't want to see again, from tonights match only?

First half was probably the worst ever seen at the lane and I won't lie I was surprised not to see a sub on after half time.
Second half was better but after we scored our second we decided to take the foot off the pedal again.
Strange team, already we are already having highs and lows and we are a month into the season.

Conceded a goal from our own throw-in, in fact!

Although admittedly we did score from one as well, so...

The three I wouldn't mind seeing play for us again going on tonight are Freeman, Sharp and Howard.

Similar to my thoughts then. McEveley was better than his usual dross, and Jam I think was hung out to dry by the rest of the team. Kept giving him the ball and then giving him absolutely no support.

Wake up and smell the coffee Steve. We are not a promotion side nor are we going to bring in anyone as far as I can see.
We are like the Flying Dutchman, doomed to roam League 1 for all eternity.

And do you know what is absolutely shockingly poor?

At 2-2 with all the momentum and half an hour to play we never looked like dominating. They looked at least as likely to score the 3rd as we did.

That should tell you all you need to know about how good we really are.

It's no great surprise either. The squad we have was never going to be consistent. The only consistency is how pathetic defeats follow every single good run of results - and they're usually in the games that look the most winnable. Why ever bother getting excited when you're a Sheffield United fan?

Against Bury I thought we were the better side.
They did a smash and grab number on us

But tonight I also agree that Colchester deserved their victory.

What a wield game with so many chances at both ends.

We created about 2 clear cut chances and about 12 half chances
Although they didn't create as many chances they must have had about 6 clear chances.

At half time I was thankful we were losing 0-2, it could have been worse.
As expected we improved in the second half and their defence looked quite dodgy. Strange game.
