Coady or Bray ?

I think players will play 3rd division football if the club and manager are right.

It's the wages that fuck things up.

I'm sure Harry would re-sign and I'm sure we've put hell of a contract on the table (for the 3rd division) and will at least double his wages but his agent will be telling him he can treble them in division 2 - same with Brayford although I'd guess that his situation will see our offer being bettered by way more than 3x.

Would they though? When has that ever happened? At the end of the day players play at the highest level they can, earning the highest wages they can. Brayford will achieve neither playing at Bramall Lane.

I really do think that Brayford has a great connection with the manager, fans and club in general. I believe that he is part of a group of players who are confident of promotion next season, meaning that after a season of success they will all be playing Championship football. The sale of Maguire would help to finance the move for Brayford, but I also don't think it would be strictly necessary if the investment is serious.

Coady is a different kettle of fish. He played for Liverpool the other day and had a very good game in a holding midfield position. He probably believes that he could still figure for them in the long term…could still be a loan for next season though?

Again though, it comes back to: let's say we can afford, let's say Clough wants him.... it still ignores the fact that he would be an idiot to move to League 1. Brayford will be wanted by every Championship club, and probably a few Premier League clubs, so why on earth would he choose a move to League 1? Fans always raise their hopes at times like this, but you must remember there is no loyalty in football. He may have enjoyed his time here, but for a 26 year old lad to go from Premier League to League 1 would be complete madness. It will mean he probably never plays Premier League football in his life, which he has said is his main aim. Coady, however, has only played for one club, so is a much more achievable target.

I can assure you that most clubs/fans will have never even heard of JB. It's not like the latest wunderkind has been unveiled and there's a bidding war going on. JB is the epitome of the loan system. The owning club uses the loan as a kick up the arse for the player. If he turns out a good 'un, they'll want him back. The fans will have fallen in love with him and it will be a pisser when he goes back. (Worked for Wendy with Fryatt and Wickham). We had the same with Phillips.

Also, there's an element of 'playing for a contract'. Not suggesting it's what JB is doing, but all clubs have had cases where, once a player is handed a contract, they go back into their comfort zone.

If JB and/or Coady go, we'll survive. After all, we hadn't heard of JB a few months ago.

You can,t unsee what has been seen Brayford

No, sounds like YOU hadn't heard of him a few months ago! I most certainly had. I also believe most people who watch Championship football knew him well. When he got a move to a premier league club in the summer you should have heard of him. Honestly think about it, he signed for a premier league club last summer, why the f*** would he sign for a league 1 club the next summer? No one would you that, too many Blades fans are letting their hearts follow their head on this one. And isn't he on a 3 year deal or something at Cardiff? Hardly 'playing for a contract.' He'll be earning £1million + just for sitting on the bench for 2 years. I loved Brayford ofcourse, but he's a player we had no right to sign in the first place and Blades fans should just be thankful we were able to have a player of his quality for half a season.

That's our selling point to Brayford ,I might be wrong but he doesn't strike me as the type of person to get rich sitting on a bench being unhappy. Unlike a lot of players the he has a personality and is a grounded type of guy ,happy to mix with fans outside of football ,which is one of the reasons he is so loved at the Lane. His body language and behaviour are very positive and he clearly feels at home with the club, the manager and the fans. I might be wrong but I think that will have a massive bearing on the type of person he is.Whether it will be enough , I hope so ,but it not even be his decision in the end. I hope so because it will benefit everyone in the long run I reckon.

Anyway that's Brayford for me :)

I do think it is possible but your post #35 sums it all up "£1M+"

That's what we can't compete with.

He constantly reiterated his dream is to play in premier league. I also believe that's another factor we can't compete. If he joined u, it is likely he would never play premier league football in his career, which is a tragedy for someone of his talent.

Brayford without a shadow of a doubt. JB is premier quality, CC might make championship in the future for me but no me

Don't know where to start !
I started the post (unusually),both have been great for us ,Coady, after a slow start, has been dynamic in a lot of games, after finding his feet in lge 1,and gained a lot of confidence through that.
Bray hit the ground running, and gained a lot of support for that(quite rightly)
But lets be honest,Coady aint gonna make Liverpools first team squad,he's in the last year of his contract there and isn't going to be offered a new one (IMO),so ,Pool are going to sell him and get a few quid in,the question is can we afford him ?Yes I think we can,as I have stated before, the Prince does have 'game changing money',but WTF is going to pour money into a lge 1,team ? Well I think he already has,not in transfer fees, but wages .
I don't think he wants to do both, hence the signings so far.
He has stated publicly that he wants Prem at the Lane(who dosn't),and the money will come if we get back in the Championship.
So ,longer term contracts for the younger players, bit shorter for the older ones.
Now,if CC is to be sold,as well as Bray,is it worth the investment?Cardiff obviously don't rate Bray in the Prem,as with Liverpol with CC,and would they come to the Lane on a permanent basis, instead of going to a Champ club ?
If we can sell United as a Champ club in 15/16,why not?Because I certainly think we'll go up next season,so why wouldn't they come to a club they seem to both love, and also come to a winning team most weeks, and be part of our journey back ?Then after just one season, they'll be in a league they belong in at least !
