Club up for sale?

Makes sense we were a cash strapped club with the combined wealth of McCabe and the prince and we now don’t even have that.

In my opinion (if true) would suggest that PA is thinking if we don't get back up before the parachute payments end he doesn't have the funds to keep us running longer term beyond that.

In some ways United seems to odd one to sell because the Premier League is more lucrative financially than any of the other teams he owns but while ever we are outside the PL it's also the biggest money sink. If its true perhaps it's being considered because we don't look like getting back up any time soon.

I think the club has always been up for sale, even in the PL, I can't imagine the Prince would have refused the right sort of offer.
True but I guess the parameters change in the prem he would’ve wanted to sell for a very large profit where as now it’s sounding like any credible offer would be acceptable to get a liability off his hands. Each way it’s not good as it strengthens the sense of uncertainty and general malaise around the club. It also weakens united potential bargaining position and give the nod to clubs looking to acquire assets at below market value.

Great click bait, if you read further down, it says "the athletic understand that the club isn't for sale, but that Prince Abdullah is looking for further investment", or something like that.

Don't get me wrong, we may be up for sale, but the headline seems to be more to drive "clicks".

Read the other week the, Easdale brothers pulled out of the discussions around taking over Derby, citing the very strict timeline the Administrators were imposing, not sure how accurate the following statements are, but certain pundits claimed the strict timeline, indicated the Administrators were convinced someone extremely rich was very close to meeting all their conditions, and not concerned others had walked away

Why have so many clubs? Doesn't make sense.
Makes great sense if your end game is to sell up, a super rich owner coming in with United World already set up is very attractive, smaller scale to the City Group but still attractive to someone looking for a club in England.

It’s common sense and a very good move.

PA isn’t stupid….he will have studied the finances and realised that this season and possibly next season is his big chance.
He’ll know that it’s possible (some say probable, some say definite) that we won’t return to the PL in the next 2 seasons.

So PA knows he’ll need to downsize the club in order to stay within financial restrictions.
A few years ago running a club like a mid table CC club would have been deemed as reasonable ambition.
However now we’ve been in the PL, fan expectation is much higher and they expect us to be financially one of the more powerful in this league.
I suspect he knows he doesn’t have enough money to continue being as ambitious paying out big wages,

We are currently an attractive proposition to anyone wanting a PL type club.
We have a great ground and the highest attendances in the league, so we’re set up for the PL.

It just needs investment, someone who doesn’t mind throwing 50 mil in our direction to buy the best available players for this league.
If the gamble pays off….they hit the jackpot with the Sky tv money.

Everything in Football is for sale at the right price....

Controversial maybe but Mike Ashley would not be the worst owner for a club like ours.
pros and cons with every potential owner, he wouldn't have the weight of expectation or demands for finishing in the Top 4 of the PL, then again I wouldn't put it past him to propose Sheffield City FC

Hidden in the body of the article;

"Yorkshire Live understands Prince Abdullah has no immediate desire to sell the club and is looking for investment, rather than a buyer."

Typical Hemmingham headline designed to provoke debate rather than provide accurate information.

In any event Billionaires only please, ex 10 bob millionaire chairman need not apply.

Maybe although the rumours around take overs are always so messy it seems there’s always no shortage of hangers on using their interest for clout without ever actually putting cash on the table.

If we are up for sale then the club is probably the most attractive it’s been for a good long while. It has a decent squad and higher profile than it’s had for a very long time. However, any prospective new owner has to consider the need to modernise facilities and provide funding to complete a reshaping of the core group.

So if this is true it's an admission that he hasn't given Sheffield United his due care and attention. It would also mean he's used us a way to make a quick profit. This after failing to capitalise on the best period in our modern history and destroying what was built in the previous few years.

All hearsay at the moment, but he'd go down as a pretty terrible chairman wouldn't he?

Ive always been cautious/pessimistic around news and speculation of this sort and most of the time in average Blades fashion its turned out horrific. So I'm having a change of tact... COUGHS NEW MAN CITY IN NEXT DECADE YHIHF 👀
