I'm sure we all respect the judgment and objectivity of Deadbat who rated all Clough's signings individually and in the context of the type and circumstance of which type of signing they were and the vast majority of which I agree with:

2014/15 signings: D+ , Cminus , C , Bminus , Dminus, E, D , Dminus, Bminus, Dminus, Cminus, E , C , D+, C , D+, C , Bminus, E , C minus, C, B minus, C+, D minus.

Simply not good enough. IMO the cause of the failure is there in a nutshell.

Try to picture similar ratings for the 2014/15 signings of Bristol City, MKD, Preston and Swindon. There lies the difference, the quality the manager has to manage week in week out. His recruitment is his biggest weakness and all his other and various failings mostly follow on from there. It's a lot easier to manage better players.

Could it be the bottom line for failure - we didn't have the game changing investment .

All the money in the pot just went on Brayford .

Perhaps why the board are saying nowt . Clough too diplomatic and loyal to say anything.

Player recruitment has been piss poor , even shopping at pound land . Perhaps its the other Clough who should go , along with the coaching staff .

Bring back Pembo . He will sort out the coaching .

Funny things happen . The board sack Simon Clough and Nigel Clough resigns . Something has to change but dammed if i know what.

Exactly the same happened at Derby.
Poor recruitment, the board wanted to bring in a Director of Football NC said no.

Clough has had loads of money for this league. Phipps has said Clough presented his plans to the Board at the end of last season and the plans were agreed; in other words he got what he wanted to do the job i.e. promotion in the auto spots. Maguire leaving was not in the plans but these things happen and can be beyond anybody's control; who wants to alienate a player and get nothing for him at some later date?

In November Phipps pubilicly acknowledged things were not going to plan but said the manager had submitted his ambitious plans to the Board and they had been agreed. Unfortunately it took us until the very last days of January to get our men and in effect from agreed plans to team changes was 3 months.

For League 1 SUFC have been shopping in John Lewis. Don't forget Done will have cost £700k plus and Coutts is not on peanuts, nor Freeman for that matter. For League 1 Brayford will be on a small fortune the other L1 clubs could only fantasise about.

It just is too kind to excuse Clough because of the budget. Nor is it true to say the Board are "saying nowt", they have consistently and carefully said that they have always agreed the manager's plans and funded them at each stage.

Clough does have a habit of getting obsessed with players, E.g, Davies and O'Grady ignoring all other options to go for them. Only when he finally succeeds they turn out to be very average.

Did he obsess over Done? I would say Davies wasn't anbobsession either, he was second choice, as Nigel explained previously. ..he wanted OGrady because of Steve's record with injuries. When he couldn't get O'Grady, he went to plan B and C.

Of course, those that want to slag him off willalways find a rreason to do so.

Woody , i am not excusing Clough for anything . I am trying to justify to myself why he should not be sacked . If he was the CEO of Tesco , Morrisons or any PLC , he would get the sack and fall on his sword.

In my last job I shagged one of the secretaries ,fiddled my petrol account and wagged it regularly. In this one I didn't.

Sitters, you've got to make allowances for the quality of jigsaw building we see on here. If something isn't predictable, or etched in black and white, or our villains don't come neatly packaged, it doesn't make sense to those posters who repeat the same tired mantra over and over and over and.....but I'm sure you recognise the signs.

I thought he had one of the lowest budgets in the division. Not sure how mid table finishes with a bottom 6 budget equates to poor recruitment.

my take on cloughs transfer dealings .
Turner ! ! unsuccesfull , released
Alcock not good enough
Freeman good prospect with more to come
J Wallace jury out ,but in my opinion will be a really good player for us
K Wallace development player hopefully one for the future
J Brayford succesfull ,big blow losing him
C Basham outstanding success
M Mcnulty successfull a lot more to come
M Done very successfull
B Davies now showing his age released
A Butler failure we will never know what really happened there
H Mcgahey development player hopefully one for the future
P Coutts jury out but has got real quality clough rates him
J Mceveley not good enough in my opinion
J Campbell- ryce good impact player in my opinion
M Higdon very poor unfit( cant run) panic buy in my opinion
C Adams develoment player he could have a great future with his power play could be our
surprise package next season has the ability to be a goalscorer matchwinner..
Lone signing..
P Mccarthy cloughs biggest mistake very poor
C O:grady successfull even though we didnt have him for long
S Davies jury out but looked as if he could do a job for us
J Holt scored some vital goals but thats it offers nothing else we have enough lightweight
players no more please.
clough has signed 18 players 5 of which are development players with 4 loan signings
along the way = 22 where the 25 comes from(according to some posters) i dont know.
I would say that most have been successfull to some degree with more to come, all managers
make mistakes along the way re-transfers but in my opinion cloughs record there is good.
For me his big mistake was failing to recruit the game changers and when he did he has been hit
with injuries= M Done,S Davies and J Brayford at the business end of the season.
If he can get the 3or 4 quality players he talks about we should have a real chance of automatic.

I wonder how much the other (Scouting) Clough Jnr made out of the above and should he share the blame for mistakes with his brother?

says he , a potato couch who cant run to the toilet before shitting himself , have you ever had a bad injury and I dont mean from picking your nose or scratching your ass , a lot of pro footballers get injuries that the like of lit of forum members would give up their jobs , claim disability by a mobility scooter unlike most football pros that spend months of rehab and get knocked by pricks on her and labelled 'showing there age' etc , lets be honest your not fit to tie there boot laces
??????? i may be getting on in years now submarine but i have run the sheffield marathon in under 3 hours
whats your best time ???????????[/QUOTE]

Thank god for that , it has taken me all season to get something right , if we ever meet , I bet you £5 I would win a 100 meter sprint to the chippie

ah the good old days , before company vehicles were fitted with trackers , airport runs removals all now a thing of the past
and women prepared to pay without money

I'm not confident that Clough will be able to bring in the players we need, he seems to only look in certain places and our scouting network is mediocre at best. I really hope he proves me wrong though and I'm fairly certain I'd be happy with the 2 CBs, 1 all round central midfielder and possibly a CF should he fail to sign Davies permanently.

I know that everyone has a different opinion on Davies but I think he could be a quality striker for us and he seems to form a great partnership when playing alongside Done, whether he's on the wing or partnering him up front.

Get the feeling a fit Davies could be a good signing but how often will he be fit ?
Hope I'm wrong here but we seem to be building a team of crocks.......

Well if the Hatton Garden gang can have a total age of over 550 years and get out of a tight hole , i am sure with crocks , has beens , we can do the same .

The poor scouting is a fallacy built up over the years. Derby, though they lost the playoffs last year dominated the final with QPR. The team was basically Nigel's. This year, after a further year of recruitment, it was still basically Nigel's that Steve stayed loyal to.

This year, it is generally accepted that they faltered when Chris Martin, Eustace and Bucko got injured.Again Nigel's signings.

With all of Steve's connections, he has found a few good loan players, but still stuck with a core of Nigel's signings. That clearly says to me that the svouting did a good job at Derby.

When I look at Basham, Done and Che, three players that few rated as much, they have done a pretty good job.

There are of course a couple of glaringly weak spots. However, I fully expect it to be rectified in the Summer.
