Clough praises

He played the full game against Russia in Moscow for the under18s in their 2-0 win on Monday and they take on the same side in a few days time. This will do the lad no harm whatsoever, the scouts and manager who have picked him and played him must be real bladey blades though:)

If only someone on here had sat near Clough and Garner on matchdays and could tell us how they behaved towards the players all these mysteries would be solved.

And what thoughts were going through the players minds at the time?

McNulty - If I don't play well will I be dropped for the next game?

JCR - Is it because I is black?

Baxter - if a tree falls when there is nobody there to hear it, does it make a sound?

We have a squad of players who arent good enough or not commited enough

Not one single player in there is worth hanging on to

Murphy is too wishy washy and like the rest is mentally brittle

i think adkins has a big job on reshaping that squad to be honest

Seems a bit harsh?

Some aren't good enough and having seen all home games and numerous away games, I wouldn't question the commitment - it might be misdirected due to Cloughs playing style though.

Numerous players are worth hanging on to - to say none are is ludicrous.

Murphy is strange at times - a right footed player, weak on his left constantly played out left - we'll see where Adkins sees him.Teams had him sussed and many doubled up on him. and a poor last 2 months of the season.

Adkins does have a tough job - you seem to be laying your negatives down very early even before the season starts.

Just thought in case anyone thought all he did was bollock players and be nasty to them. WWF, this goes out to you.

Interesting OP written in March. Well it seems as though the club thought so too.

Anyway I was talking a load of baloney because I've learned this weekend that none of the players care a toss so why should they bother if the manager bollocked them every hand and turn, they got their wages every week and that was all they bothered about.

Big shame because I thought Adkins' management style would bear huge benefits throughout the club.

As for Reed I repeat "as good as we've had age for age". Very good player and obviously holding his own at that level. Full 90 minutes in that company, well done Louis.

Can you explain what this means? (I can't decide if it's an entirely serious discovery, or a slightly tongue in cheek reference to a discussion elsewhere on the site).

I think in this division a well organised , well disciplined side will do well .if you add enthusiasm, fitness and pace in keys areas you've got promotion in the bag

I judt dont see adkins getting that consistently out of our current crop , im not trying to be nasty , ive been watching football all my life and thats my honest opinion

Sorry Thadeus, yes it's a follow on from a thread I started at the weekend when I got slaughtered for boring everybody with the theme that we have a squad with so many players in it who will be worried about their position in the new regime. I said players have uncertainties and worries and seemingly they don't care a toss about the club or anything but their wage packet and moreover our fans don't seem to care a toss about the players either.

I don't want to ressurect that debate but you can see it elsewhere.

Can I ask why this is aimed for WWF?

In March I was unpopular for maintaining that Clough had lost the plot and his management style was harsh and aggressive even with the younger players. I yearned for an "encourager" rather than a "bollocker".

In March I was unpopular for maintaining again and again and again and again and again and yet again and once more for luck, that Clough had lost the plot and his management style was harsh and aggressive even with the younger players. I yearned and yearned and yearned and yearned a bit more for an "encourager" rather than a "bollocker".

Slight fix applied.

Pre-emptive strike ;)

I do think the team looked disheartened at times so maybe judge has a point?

yep, agree that the team did look disheartened at times - but not all the time. Clough had a weird management style - it worked at Burton (the Chairman there is full of praise and support for Clough), it worked at Derby (although some will disagree) - for me, he had a lot of cost cutting and was, IMO, getting there. I thought he should have had more time with us - but accept some of the players seemed to find him difficult.

The point where I don't think judge has a point - and I quote "Not one single player in there is worth hanging on to", I think that is a ridiculous statement...........not one according to judge. There are some decent players - they need organising and hopefully Adkins is the one to do it. His management of players is one of his strengths apparently.

We have all had our input into the problems last season - my opinion is with 2 x CH's, signing Connor Coady and if we had got COG pre season then we would have finished top 2. Some might not agree and hindsight is a wonderful tool to have but for me we weren't far off and the correct signings now should see us alright.

Judge may be correct and it seems he is advocating a full clear out like what Charlton did under Chris Powell.

Do you think we have no decent players at present?

Did I? Ah well, I suppose when you just know something and few others do, it's like missionary work. Keep preaching and the masses will convert. In the end I think most people saw the light. ;)

If Adkins does the business I'll be quiet as a mouse!

If Adkins wants to play 4-4-2 then maybe we need 6 new players

If he plays 4-5-1 maybe 4/5.

3-5-2 maybe 4/5

4-3-3 maybe 5.

There are a few who could leave from midfield.

...and not a word about talent. I've been watching football all my life too (longer than you I suspect) and I can assure you that it's absolutely essential.

Many honest opinions are misguided. One more for the pile...

...to make room for young Louis, by far the bestest player we've ever ever had, ever...

Actually by March quite a lot had sussed the manager by then and I was laying off by then.

If you disagree, that's fair enough. However, dismissing somebody else's opinion as misguided because you don't agree with it is not very fair IMO and if you've been watching football for as long as you purport to have been, you should already realise that. It appears not....

In fear of you remembering it wrongly forever more Pinchy - "age for age" . Remember he's the youngest ever player for us and we haven't had that many U18 England players in our history. 30 plus senior games and he's not 18 until next month.

Not the best ever player yet! In any case we'll not hold on to him long enough.

You're getting carried away, mate. England (and Italy) U-18 players come and go. They are ten a penny and the vast majority of them go on to achieve little or nothing in the game.

Reed is a decent young prospect with a lot of potential. That's it; nothing more. I congratulate him on playing for England, a poor team by international standards but, if you're English, the best you can do.

It doesn't mean young Louis should be a fixture in our first team, though. Certainly not in the next season or so. If he is (along with other Bladey Boyband favourites like Long and Kennedy) then we have problems.

Of course if you think the proper function of our club is to develop local talent, however limited they might be, at the expense of the first team, that's fine. Don't ask me to sign up though, I'm interested in promotion and success, achieved, as it always is, by proper football.

All profesional foorballers have talent or they wouldnt be making a living from the game

The manager and coach can utilise their talents into a match winning team

in the same wsy that you have a talent for sounding like the gyles brandreth of s24su
everyone has a talent ,its recognising it and harnessing it
You use yours to make yourself look ridiculous on a football forum whereas if some one came in with a wider view than you they could whore you out to bingo halls and old peoples homes where your hinge and bracket style put downs would raise a few bushy eyebrows
