Myth no. 1 - It is sky and bt subscriptions here that is causing these bonkers kick off time.

A 12 noon kick off on a Sunday actually reduces the viewing figures in this country. In Asia however, the viewers will be significant. Reality is the armchair fan here is considered about as much as those actually attending.

So who pays the money to the EPL and FA etc? In the main its sky and to a lesser extent BT. I still hold with my argument you stop subscribing to them you stop the problem at source.

Agree, but how can people bemoan the death of football while they snuggle down on a Monday night to watch Fulham v villa etc? It's a bit like Hitlers gas supplier giving him a discount on volume then moaning about what a nasty man he is.

Do you seriously think that the billion+ pound deal for showing just the PL is funded by subscriptions in this country? Just a drop in the ocean, it's the selling of it abroad (especially Asia) that generates the money to enable the tv companies to pay so much for the rights and still make a profit.

I agree with IIYB , but sorry to rain on the parade , money talks , and in this 24 hour a day news world your seen as some sort of Luddite , if your not with the plan . Last night for instance I was watching a rugby game , while at half time checking out this site , and also finding out that Dublin had been beaten , and a local criminal had been shot , even before the sky money came into the game , times we're changed , Most of the times we played the S6 lot while I Lived in Sheffield times we're changed , on one journey to Fulham , and Southend think these were changed to mid-day kick offs , and no one worried about us poor northern folk settin off at 5 in the morning .Don't get me wrong it's not right for those fans that have to do the traveling , should be made cheaper or cost nothing at all for this trip , or any trip that's been changed by the TV company , but when we were, watching England getting thrashed in Aussie land , or watching golf in Florida this weekend , or any other other sporting event and mentioning it in the shout box on this forum , remember it's the millions that subscribe myself included that ,want to watch it here and now , and not many eye-browse are raised then .
Who on here will complain if the money we get from the TV company's in our cup run enable us to buy The Bearded one , not many I suspect , it's not right that Charlton fans are being made to set off with no thought for them or at what cost .
Brother in law is a Liverpool fan , in the last round of the. Cup , they got 9,000 tickets
Think 6,,500 were priced at £62
The rest at over £90 , and we're pointing a finger at the t v company's .

The only people that benefit from a 12 pm kick off are people like me, half way around the world in a daft time zone (mattbianco1)

Cloughie is spot on and my love for him just grows and grows like a Brayford beard.
Thought they changed the time with you in mind Swizzler , they know which side there bread is buttered on . Don't you own the rights to broadcast over there or summit .
It's all your fault . ;)

Hi dublin 10 blade, how's tricks mate?

Point taken, a rounded view of this will take in several reasons why fans are often cleansed of their wallets.
My point was specifically about this particular game. Of course other factors influence what times games happen, the price of tickets etc, but returning to my original point, the evidence points towards the TV companies acting true to form.

Looking at the Hull vs Sunderland game, a couple of hours drive between these two clubs, couldn't common-sense have dictated a 2pm KO for the Charlton game while the Hull game was switched to 12pm? We're the giant killers of this year's cup, we've slaughtered supposedly superior teams, so with all the marketing nous that ITV is meant to have, couldn't ITV have sold this game with an emphasis on the magic of the cup? No, of course they couldn't. They're dullards, their venality knows no bounds, and for the Charlton fans they've stuck the finger up and said 'sit on this'. Never let me hear ITV's man of the people, Adrian Chiles, talk about fans and their struggles in the modern game. ITV are a disgrace in this respect.

Whatever we earn from the cup would've happened regardless of TV scheduling, these amounts are fixed. The issue surrounding my OP was about one specific point, the disregard TV companies have towards supporters. That's all it was about, one particular game, and the TV bods have once again shown their contempt for fans. This lemon they're squeezing will eventually have no more juice. It's a bit like Hollywood in it's heyday, the studios couldn't contemplate their position as ever changing, yet things changed, and eventually the film studios either adjusted, or they withered on their vine. Films still get made, multiplexes now exist, but other things now compete with the pound in everyone's pockets. So it'll be with football if those at the FA don't consider the fans rather than the whip that's being cracked by the likes of Sky, BT, ITV, or BBC.

This could easily have been solved. It wasn't rocket science, a simple look at the distances between clubs should have decided who plays at what time. There, a solution found, and yet none of this mattered to ITV.

I'm not disagreeing with the principle you've stated mate about the money generated via TV companies, just that on this one occasion, with the financial implications for Charlton's fans, that ITV could have been imaginative enough to consider who plays at what time.
