Clough and Adkins

Anything other than promotion is failure. I'm pretty sure Barnsley spent less last season, not to mention Burton.

You see all your credibility goes out the window as you thrash around blaming everyone for our situation. Ultimately Clough failed because he didn't get us promoted, I think most would agree that because it became the expectation but the vitriol and plain garbage shoved his way is just protecting the people who are actually to blame.

McCabe and co sleep soundly in their beds while out ex manager takes his team to a play off spot in the division above. We thrash about blaming him and saying he was a shit manager yet his stats while our manager make pretty good reading.

Had we given him another season then we could have probably said one way or another how good/bad he was. As it stands I'm sorry but I'd take 2 cup semis and a play off position right now. I'd bite your fucking hand off.

What difference does that make.it wasn't his fault we were in L1 in the first place. We were at the bottom of L1 when he came got us up the table and improved on that the following season. We have got worse since he left

Sorry Bartman but no point in trying to shine a light on the terminally blind. They are too busy ranting about everything to see.

But why the feck did he sign so many toadies and crocks, and no CB's?

When the chickens came home to roast at Swindon our fucked up team were put to the sword, to nobody else's surprise
We lost by one goal in the play off semi. Not exactly put to the sword. Yes he should have bought a centre half with the Brayford money but that doesn't disguise that overall he did a good job for us

Maybe that is a problem with our expectations. Are we saying that if a manager doesn't get us promotion they should be sacked ? This short term thinking leads to panic signings ( Brayford ?) and no team foundations. If Wilder is sacked of we don't go up it will all start again with a manager trying to sort another managers players. It can't go on or we will go down.

Clough had a season and a half and was able to sign plenty of his players, with the budget he had he failed miserably.

Adkins had a season and signed very few players whilst moving on a lot of players to cut the wage bill. His signing were mixed but I think with 4 promotions on his cv he should have been given at least until Xmas in my opinion.

Wilder is slashing the budget and trying to build a team. It's a very difficult job at the moment.

So to some up success is all relative, give Wilder the budget Clough had and I'll judge him by the same standards.

Did you not read the part where I said he has a very difficult job? Give Wilder the same budget as Clough and no promotion is a failure, with what Wilder is currently working with I'd say a mid table finish showing signs of improvement for next season is enough to get at least another season.

Sorry I missed that. I agree by the way. For once we need to give a manager a chance to build

Based on results, Clough should have been given more time, but he obviously misjudged his bosses mood which is often fatal when egos get involved.

Adkins was just a bad fit, agree that he didn't get much room to change his squad but I think a tougher character would have blown more of the deadwood away.

Wilson should have got till the end of the season.

He's signed:

The best left back in the league
Coventry's best player
A winger from last season's team of the year
A hugely talented CB from the Championship
A striker with a proven scoring record at this level

Not my words.

Surely these additions alone should take us up?

I agree but the club's a fucking mess right now so I'm prepared to cut him some slack and give him time.

But the early signs aren't good, if he sticks with Sharp and Clarke tomorrow with the hoofball, I fear for him!

Agree with all that ,except the best left back bit (I know that's what he said but not seen it yet), the rest should come good as they are facts.

We're still in the shadow of Clunts poisonous legacy sadly.

He's Bryan Robson with a smaller drinks cabinet.

How? That deadwood was under contract and their wages were stopping any further recruitment. Not many queuing up to take the likes of Coutts off our hands now...

For some unknown reason they're retrospectively becoming good managers for some. Just because our current manager is (currently) shit it doesn't mean our past managers were anything other than utterly shit.

Whilst I'm not a (current) fan of Wilder, he's working on about half the budget those two had.

It's those wankers who left the club in the mess it is.
Adkins' entire contribution can be summed up thus.
'Well we tried to win didn't we? It was we who were on the front and then well their goal and all due to slack defending. On balance we should have won. But many positives. Ought to have won. Didn't. All tough games at this level. A positive display. Almost got a point.'

Fair point, but I think a "Warnock type" would have made their life so uncomfortable, they'd have been on the phone to agents angling to get away. I had some sympathy for him but by the end he was almost daring McCabe to pull the trigger.

Yep they probably should ;)
