Basically for those not in the know. Our Clive has got the huge tit on because all Wendy fans now have to exit the North stand via Penistone road (which will be closed for an hour at kicking out time). He’s not happy because some who aren’t as mobile as others will have to walk back on themselves and have a longer journey. Fair point. Then he spoils himself by asking should there even be any restrictions at all completely forgetting the fact that there was crowd trouble at the last derby where the overriding factor was both sets of fans coming together. Acceptable maybe if it wasn’t for the fact HE was the one who shouted loudest about it at the Bramall Lane fixture. Now as if he hasn’t already shown his bias, he decides to basically say that if Wednesday have to follow council guidelines at the Sty then the council should put the same conditions in place at Bramall Lane and not let home supporters use this as a way of exiting. A mardy arse jealous little weasel of a man who abuses his political power to have a go at his teams rival

They are lucky they haven't imposed further sanctions, given the design and poor condition of the place.

I've never once been in a near crush to exit the Lane, or suffered a kettle/attempted ambush and if I wish, I can make it away and to the beer engine for a pint before most outlets have reported Full Time.

Contrast that with Hillsborough and its quite clear why they are at last appearing to start to do something about it.

It's actually old news, but here's his letter:

To: John Mothersole, Julie Dore,

cc Deputy CC Mark Roberts, Alan Billings, Lindsay Taylor, Secretary SWFC

Dear John and Julie

I am writing with regard to the prohibition notice which has been put on Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough Stadium with regard to home fans exiting at the Leppings Lane End of the ground. I have had a number of emails now, some from constituents, some from residents in other parts of Sheffield, all of whom are Wednesday supporters and as their emails, which I am copying to you explain, many of them are regulars at the game and therefore see at first hand the crowd arrangements on a regular basis.

There are a number of concerns that have been expressed. One is the inconvenience now which home fans are being put to, some of whom have to walk to the Kop End of the ground at Penistone Road then walk right back to Leppings Lane. That is obviously all right and very convenient for some more mobile younger people but not necessarily for people who may find that length of walk a challenge and little consideration appears to have been given to them in this process.

Secondly, there is the whole issue about whether the prohibition is necessary at all. The emails say that people who go to the game on a regular basis see the arrangements and as far as they are concerned they operate perfectly smoothly and have done over many years without any significant problems. Why is it necessary therefore to bring these new arrangements in?

The third issue is on what basis the prohibition order has been issues. Is it true that the only basis on which the police acted was the report that they requested from Aston University. If that is the case should not a bit more thorough research have been done before a decision of this magnitude was taken? It really is difficult to understand why one group of researchers unfamiliar with the ground doing one survey of one game should lead to this sort of action.

Fourthly, in terms of the logistics of that end of the stadium, I think we can all appreciate it is not necessarily ideal. Could you explain how it is different to the Bramall Lane end of the Bramall Lane Ground where away supporters go but home supporters come out of the same end of the ground? The amount of room at the Bramall Lane end is just as constrained, in fact probably more constrained, than that on the concourse at Leppings Lane spreading across the road. Obviously that arrangement is restricted if coaches are drawn up across the concourse and what has been said by some individuals is that the only problems at Leppings Lane have occurred when the police have insisted on coaches coming that close. But I come back to the point surely the Bramall Lane end at Bramall Lane is just as congested and yet away fans come out in the same point as home fans at that ground.

Finally, a contrast between the way that police have acted with the City Council following the complaints following the Derby game between Wednesday and United last season. There is a feeling that the police have acted in this way to cover their own inadequacies on the evening and there was widespread concern about the way the police handled it and I think the police have accepted some responsibility for that. Nevertheless, that has resulted in an investigation, a report being commissioned and immediate action taken despite the fact that the Club has said they do not believe that this is appropriate. I contrast this with the complaints that were made, and I certainly made them on behalf of people about this crushing that occurred outside Bramall Lane before the Derby last season with Wednesday. I have never had a proper response from the Council who have simply accepted that the Club said nothing needs to be done. There is therefore a distinct contrast between Wednesday saying there is no problem but the Council and the police deciding to take action, and United saying there was no problem and the police and the Council apparently just accepting it and no further investigation being carried out. Indeed, I have not had a reply from the Council’s Chief Executive to the last three emails I have sent giving more information about the concerns that were expressed to me on that occasion.

I look forward to a reply as I am sure you understand that this is not just me raising these issues but the emails I have sent demonstrate the widespread concern and bemusement of many Wednesday supporters at the action that has been taken.

Having just drafted this email I received further information from a long standing friend, John Colby, who is also a Sheffield United supporter. He is drawing attention to the problems outside the Bramall Lane End of the Ground with the lack of space and that here away and home supporters are let out of the same side of the ground exactly the problem which has been addressed with the prohibition order at Hillsborough. I do think these issues need to be looked at seriously. There is a very strong feeling that the police and the Council have got all this wrong, I got lots of comments at Preston last Saturday from Wednesday away supporters who go regularly, all of whom are saying essentially that the decision is a wrong one and needs looking at again.

I look forward to your response on both the issues of the prohibition notice at Hillsborough and also the concerns I have raised about Bramall Lane in the past and are now being raised by John Colby which I have never had a proper response to.

Yours sincerely

Clive Betts MP

Sheffield South East

Nice to see he's addressed it to the Organ Grinder on the Council first and the monkey, second.

once again in the star today, having a dig at our ground.what is wrong with the bloke. me thinks he should go down to sheffield 6. and discuss with there chairman what is wrong with there ground.how the hell did get into parlliment, but then being an m.p. a job you are not required to have any qualifications. my thoughts about s6 is they should have replaced the stand that caused 98 people to lose their lives. and all he wants to do is cover up the mistakes of sheffield s6
He's an idiot, as are a lot of politicians.

It's very depressing when you meet these people and they are so rubbish.

It's interesting how they have got away with it for so long, but the current Brxxit mess is shining a light on how crap many of them really are

What an odious ‘man’ he is.

His club is bought to book (not before time) for the appalling layout and crowd management at the Sty but he seems more concerned with trying to bring Bramall Lane into the argument. A ground with a totally different layout and surrounding area and no history of serious injury or incident.

He goes on about the imaginary crushing at Bramall Lane he supposedly witnessed, the only problem no such crushing happened because we actual have working CCTV which proved there was none. Not to mention superior crowd management by our well trained stewards who don’t think it’s a good idea to keep turnstiles unopened before a derby to try and get one over their rivals.

Clive Betts makes my skin crawl, odious disgusting pig loving twat who abuses his position repeatedly to further the cause of the lower league club he supports.

Not wishing to turn this into a political debate but you should look a little deeper into WHY Labour are not falling for the early election trick. Boris is that desperate for a no deal brexit that he would probably change the date of the election (after initially agreeing to a date), as he can do, to one where the parties are actually out of Parliament electioneering (in effect stifling any debate) in the run up to the October deadline date thereby getting a no deal Brexit by default. Anybody who thinks that Boris wouldn't do this does not understand how desperately, and devious, he is to get Brexit at whatever cost to the country.

Given a law's been passed to stop no deal what you're saying isn't actually true.
And if there was a general election in October why shouldn't Labour expect to win it and do whatever deal they like? The reality, sadly, is they aren't confident of winning.
As for Betts, he's a decent bloke, just happens to support the wrong team. All the stadium stuff should never be an issue in 2019 given what happened 30 years ago.
If I remember right, they spent significant money on upgrading their ground for Euro 96 when looking back now it seems remarkable Hillsborough was given the privilege of staging matches.
They've spent virtually nothing on Leppings Lane over three decades and the owner's apparently got enough money to recently 'spend' £60m buying the ground.
It should be knocked down and rebuilt, with a suitable memorial - something else they've also never done.

Betts is an utter cunt on every level.
As is anyone else who seeks to thwart the democratic will of the people.
Shove that anywhere you want.

Not going to pull pussy looking like he does is he? Any port in a storm and all that.

I used to work with his ex wife back in the 80's....she was a very good looking lass. He's always been an ugly pig.

Can anyone show me where he actually said these things?
Here
Made up a load of bollox hoping shit would stick in a pathetic cretinous attempt to deflect the flack his horrible excuse of a club are quite rightly getting.
Was invited by SUFC to discuss the matter after pointing out that we have CCTV on all entrances/exits and after review nothing was seen as alledged by him. Guess what? Fuck all from him until now.
I would say he deserves rogering with a very large hedgehog, but he'd probably enjoy it. Wankstain of an excuse for a man.

Betts is, has always been and will always been a full weight weapons grade cunt.
He abused his position as a shitcunt councillor to grease his way to Westminster along with fellow cunt Blunkett.
They sit/sat perfectly with the oxygen thieving walking abortion that is the anti Semitic cunt Corbyn.
Corbyn is no more anti semitic than I am a pig fan

Link does not work. Do I have to pay my 80 odd quid first?

Indeed he was one of the few mp's campaigning against a proposed housing development on a jewish cemetary in north london when plenty of his future accusers stayed quiet. But hey The Sun and Mail say he is so it must be true (rolls eyes)

Speaks highly of you and your contribution to the city and country.

When I wrote the original reply the law had not been passed. There's still the concern that Boris will still find a way around it hence the latest steps in court to prevent him ignoring the law. You just can't trust this man who's running the country.

Can't disagree with the above as the health experts have already warned of this in the event of a no deal Brexit!!!!!

Though just for factual accuracy we export more medicine to the EU than we import.

But don't let me get in the way of a good scare story.

We import shitloads of pharma so it matters not if we export more than import at the moment. How are we going to fill the void left, pharma doesnt just appear by magic. Also no more or much less exports to the EU as EU countries will seek cheaper alternatives due to additional tariffs imposed. Yeah, Britain, ready for business. Dont worry youll be ok the toffs will throw the crumbs down for you to eat.

It depends which expert you choose to believe.
I remember many experts telling the UK we must adopt the Euro otherwise it will lead to financial disaster and the pound sterling will collapse.

I can see advantages and disadvantages to remaining or leaving, so I’m respectful to both sides.
However what I do find bizarre, sad and dangerous that some MP’s are ignoring democracy.
It puts politics into disrepute. What’s the point of voting if it means nothing.....don’t feel like voting anymore. I’d sack the lot of them.

Yeah but he is funny as someone in the Republlic of Ireland has just said to me. Shame Benny Hill isn't around then as he would be a top PM on that basis. I'm not so sure Benny would have tried to eradicate the elected chamber to get his policies through however.

Betts a decent bloke? I'd hate to see your idea of a wrong un.

Yes, he's a decent bloke and politically I'd agree with him on most things apart from the EU and the way he's biased towards his team and lets that seep into his public role.
But overall there are a large number of people in this world who would fit my idea of a wrong un before Betts.
