Clarke very Lazy or just good at preserving Energy Levels

In decline? So, if you get promoted from league one, with a club that has been there for 6 seasons mind, back to the Championship where most fookers are cobbing money about left right and centre, your the third top goal scorer in the league, a league full of multi-million pound strikers, your team are still in the play-off hunt with four games to go but somehow your career is going backwards? o_O

He's 33 of course his career is on the decline, yes he's scored 17 goals and had an amazing start to this season, probably amongst the best spells of his whole career.
But since the turn of the year, his form has fell off a cliff, so much so that he has scored only three goals in his last 18 appearances. His work rate is still there, but his finishing has been absolutely fucking woeful. I don't know why, but it has and I'm afraid you cannot ignore the facts. On current form he would not get a shirt, were there a viable alternative

How is being 33 a suggestion that his career is on the decline? DeGerilamo or whatever his name is a young lad and finds himself somewhere in the lower leagues.

So the only fault of the lad is his lack of goals since the new year? I'd understand if he had nothing else to offer but that isn't the case. We signed Hanson last January, why? Clarke was injured and we needed a presence up top. Hanson wasn't signed for his goals but for his nuisance factor. As soon as Clarke came back Hanson was out the team and Wilder even eluded to the fact that Hanson was brought in to a job because Clarke was injured. To me, this proves that Wilder see's more than just goals in the lad.

He’s no captain either. .

Based on what, exactly?

If this season is one of his best, and better than the last then his career is patently not 'on the decline', regardless of his age.

Two strikers in double-figures, one's earned 17 points alone and the other is the top scorer in the team and 3rd overall.

But they're the problem apparently. Nothing to do with the inability of those behind them to stop every fucker and his dog from scoring past us.

Actually that's a genuinely good question I think. Breaking our team up into the different positions, I think each one is deserving of praise but also some criticism as well.

We have strikers who've done well overall, but who have also been guilty of missing chances in quite a few games, particularly some which could've turned draws into wins
Our midfield has been mostly excellent, but occasionally inconsistent- due to various factors- and which does not contribute as many goals as you'd hope
Our keepers are generally good and have improved as the season has progressed, but who have also made some silly errors and shown lack of judgement. And they let in suspiciously large amount of long range shots. But that might be more the fault of..
Our defence, which is.. ok. I actually don't know what the stats are and how we hold up compared to other teams defensively this season, but it does seem like there's plenty of room for improvement. Recently we had a run of games where you have to say they were excellent, conceding very few goals up until Stears' injury. I'd like us to make at least one really solid signing in this area in the summer.

They don’t matter mate. He’s lost any pace he ever had. He adds nothing to the team effort unless he’s scoring and right now he’s misfiring badly; not for the first time this season. I’m not anti-Sharp at all, but he’s past it and that’s no good for us. He’s no captain either. Stears will have that job next season and rightly so.
They don’t matter to you for a reason.

And that’s because they disprove what you suggest is FACT.

Your eyeballs deceive you young Jedi !!

Look. I have no reason to doubt that, overall, Leon has done well and as long as he pulls on a Blades shirt, I am appreciative of the positive things he does. He isn’t all that, IMHO, but for £150k, what can anyone expect ??

It is obviously by now VERY clear that whatever my opinion is of Leon, this is not mirrored by Mr Wilder, and maybe that’s all that matters. He is his main man. No doubts.

I just feel that Sharp has been and is being short changed in all of this. Whatever your opinions of him (and if you can allow yourself to be honest with yourself for just a moment, you didn’t want him back in the first place, was extremely vocal about this, and the 64 goals since seem to have done little to change your point of view !), he has done superbly well for us.

He is and remains a threat at Championship level, an asset at Championship level, and a much much better all round CF than a significantly vocal section of our support would give credit for.

And, wether you like it or not, what I state above is backed up with cold hard evidence and facts. It’s not hot air.

As ever, and to quote Mr Ali “whatever boasts I make, I am always prepared to back em up”.

Makes a good night out though admittedly ;)

Agree on Billy, I just think you're being stubborn on Clarke though. Whenever you praise him it's conditional. It's akin to Pinchy's approach with Billy but just not as extreme or attention seeking.

One stat that would be good to get for the Championship would be goals scored per £ of salary earned, we'll never get it but you can bet that Billy and Leon give great value for money on that stat relative to the others in the top scorers list.

I admire Billy enormously and acknowledge his goal-scoring record and what he has done for us. I’ve seen enough recently, however, to persuade me that time has caught up on him rather rapidly. He has slowed in both body and mind. The chances now have to come to him rather than him sniffing them out. When they do he misses more than he used to. There’s the reasons why CW now leaves him out.

I doubt he’ll score ten more goals in a Blades shirt. I would seek a replacement in the Summer and let Bill have a huge ovation followed by a golden autumn banging a few in, in the league below.

Leon still seems fit, alert and talented enough to play a significant part going forward.

He's always score in bursts and has often looked pretty poor between. Whilst anyone with a modicum of intelligence has to doff their cap to his holy Pinchy ness, you are wrong on this one.

Can I be the first to offer the obligatory chairty bet? £20 to St lukes or the Children's Hospital says he will.

Certainly. I’ll create an account for you... :)

Ten more senior goals from 14/4/18 onwards, piece of piss for the fat lad from Sheffield and you heard it here first.

Like taking candy off a baby, but without the candy, or.......er........the baby.

I’d have covered my arris on that one I S C, on proviso we are not in PL !!

Even I would have to concede Billy is history if this turns out to be the case !

For us, that is. I’m sure he’ll get more than that when he moves on.
